Barack Obama thinks Fred Armisen's 'SNL' impression is improving

Brian Williams's one-hour special with Barack Obama aired last night, and among the many topics covered was Obama's reaction to Fred Armisen's much-discussed impression of him, which starts at about 3:25…

"You know, I don't watch Saturday Night Live that often, but I've seen a couple of the skits," President Obama said. "Folks are still working on the rhythm of my voice, which I guess is a little bit unusual. But he seems to be starting to get it down a little bit. The ears aren't quite as big on the show as they are in person. That's presumably a make-up situation; they can do something about that."

Do you agree, PopWatchers? Is Armisen getting the hang of playing the Commander in Chief, or does he need to be impeached?

I agree that Armisen’s impression has gotten better, but that’s partly because it was absolutely BRUTAL at first.
I’m a HUGE Fred Armisen fan, but the best I can say is that it’s climbed all the way up to “adequate.” (I particularly liked his “Cool” commercial).

The problem isn’t the impression but the fact that they treat Obama with kid gloves. It just isn’t funny. The Joe Biden impression isn’t accurate but his skits are hilarious because they are so brutal.

I have to agree with those who have observed that the comedy shows have been absolutely castrated in their treatment of Obama. Stewart? Weak. Colbert? Weak. SNL? Weak. I guess you can’t be madly in love and satiric towards the same person.

I have to agree with those who have observed how totally castrated comedy has been with regards to Obama. I guess blind devotion and satire don’t mix. Jon Stewart has been less cutting than Jay Leno, for chrissakes. SNL has had zero in the satire department. You get more biting social commentary from an infomercial these days. But wait, Stewart says Obama is too gosh-darned hopeful…OUCH! And SNL does a skit that makes fun of Obama for being in control of his emotions. Yow! What next, a skit savaging him for being a conscientious recycler?

Armisen trys hard to impersonate President Obama…but he comes off sounding like Bullwinkle. “Hey Rocky! Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!”
Also I have to agree that SNL is being way too nice. It is ok to go off the deep end with the Geigner impersonations (which are hillarious by ghe way) but it is not ok to take the Obama sketches to the extreme.

    Sorry computer error.

@tamburlaine the reason that the comedians have been so light when it comes to mocking him is that there is not much to mock. Bush was a walking punch line and now Obama is making them work a little harder.

I thought Keegan Michael Key from Mad TV did a good Obama.

    Alphacat’s better…Much Better.

Jon Stewart may admire Obama, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t attacked him or his administration whenever deserved. Bush was an endlesss supply of stupidity that just wore out the best.

yea, all Obama-lovers will assure you that the reason he isn’t made fun of is that he’s just that flawless… That sure proves me wrong. And here I thought it was just that leftists won’t poke fun at themselves because they’re so deeply, unfunnily earnest.
