'Revolutionary Road' is our Must List pick, what's yours?

It's that time of the week again when we kindly ask you, our dear PopWatch readers, what is occupying your Must List. On ours? The expertly-acted drama Revolutionary Road, released on DVD yesterday. Fact: The film was one of the very best of last year. Another fact: Most people probably avoided it because a dark drama about a crumbling marriage didn't exactly look like a barrel of fun — even if it does star cinema's golden children, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. But now is the perfect time to discover it, from the comfort of your own home. EW's Chris Nashawaty says Rev Road deserved more Oscar love (its most high-profile nomination was for Michael Shannon's explosive supporting performance), a statement I will echo here: DiCaprio and Winslet both deserved acting nods, and an argument could even be made for a Best Picture nomination. It's a profound story that is difficult to shake afterward. Watch the haunting trailer below for a refresher.

So what's on your Must List this week? After you've rented Revolutionary Road, be sure to list your top three picks for this week in the comments below. Include your e-mail address in case we pick one of your submissions to use in the magazine. Now get to suggesting!

No. The must pick this week is the just-released dvd set for “Weeds,” the third season. Mary Louise Parker may be the best actress on tv.

    Must List: The Pixar Edition!
    – Soundtrack for “Up”, Michael Giacchino – This summer’s hottest composer (“Star Trek”, “Land of the Lost”) whips up a lilting score evocative of music from the 1920’s and 30’s that’s already garnering some early Oscar buzz.
    – “Partly Cloudy” on iTunes – Loved the wonderfully cute and hilarious 6-minute short that screened in theaters before “Up”? It’s now available on iTunes for your enjoyment. http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMovie?id=317100593&s=143441
    – “Toy Story 3″ teaser trailer – Buzz, Woody and the gang are back… next summer, that is. For now, watch Buzz and Woody compete to see who can come up with a better logo for the forthcoming threequel. http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/toystory3/

Spencer Pratt on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. I don’t like the guy, but you have to admit that he’s knows how to make good TV. Praying for Heidi in one scene, then saying how much he loves vengeance in the next… hilarious.

Sweet Stache— a new book that embraces a fad that will never die: the mighty mustache!

    My Picks:
    1. Michael Giacchino’s score for Up-It’s amazing how a single theme can be adapted for the spectrum of emotion the incredible movie covers.
    2. Conan as The Tonight Show host-So good to have him back.
    3. The Princess and the Frog trailer-No other trailer in recent memory has done such a good job of getting me excited for a movie; classic Disney returns!

    1) I agree about Revolutionary Road. I saw it in theaters and it’s a fantastic film, albeit a terribly depressing one. It definitely deserved more Oscar love. DiCaprio gave one of his best performances here, yet the Academy overlooked it. Kate Winslet’s final act in the film emotionally destroyed me. I would have ranked it in the top 2 movies of 2008.
    2) The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien! It’s so good to have Conan back on a daily basis. And bringing back Andy Richter made it even sweeter!
    3) The Toy Story 3 teaser trailer. Yes, it’s not much, but that doesn’t keep it from getting me super excited for it’s release next year!

  • Kristina

Burn Notice Season premiere tomorrow night. I can’t wait!

  • Chris G

DRAG ME TO HELL. I will drag you to hell if you don’t check out Sam Raimi’s scary and hilarious return to form.

  • Vicky

I definitely agree with Clayton. :)

    1) Guillermo Del Toro’s The Strain
    2) Green Day 21st Century Breakdown
    3) Concerts at Red Rocks Ampitheatre

  • Mary

Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King from Dave Matthews Band. It’s been four long years since a new album, and this one is great. And the concert on Fuse just whet my appetite for more DMB live

The Sounds!! I saw them this weekend opening for No Doubt and this group is amazing. They sound great live and commanded the stage as if they were headlining. The saying “a hard act to follow” never rang so true (yeah I’m looking at you Paramore). If you’ve never heard of them then it’s time to break the lease on that rock you’ve been living under and go get their new album ‘Crossing the Rubicon.’

  • Sandra

Mandy Moore’s “Amanda Leigh” – great driving album

  • Seth

Weeds Season 5- Mary Louise Parker and her crazy cohort are back with higher stakes. Get it. Higher.
Conan- He’s back too and finally gets his spot in the BIG leagues. It’s long overdue for the comic whiz kid.
The Hangover- This is bound to be the comedy of the summer and all I hope is that Zach Galifianakis finally gets his due.

  • Charlynne Garvin

Literal Video! Total eclipse of the heart is a total gut buster. It’s goofy singers describing what you literally see in every cheezy frame! AND it made me realize: the art of music videos sure has come a long, long, long, way.

So You Think You Can Dance – not only is Kat the most AWESOME host(ess) on any reality competition, but this show is way better at focusing on talent than American Idol. Truem there is stunt casting but it seems like it is usually based more on talent or potential for growth than on personality. It’s the perfect show to help me get over my mourning for Idol.

    1) “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien”: Conan is back! I’ve missed him.
    2) “Burn Notice”
    3) “New Moon” teaser trailer. I can’t wait to see this. I think it has definite potential.
