Uh oh! Conan or Letterman tonight? In the immortal words of Lucille Bluth, "I don’t understand the question, and I won’t respond to it." It was always easy to choose between the very different Letterman and Leno — not so much with tonight’s face-off of "Letterman vs. Mini-Letterman" (at least that’s how New York mag put it in a feature posted yesterday). Anyway, there’s no need to decide just yet. All eyes will be on Conan’s ginger mop — which does not move even slightly, even as he sprints on a beach — this week. And Conan’s sidekick for seven years, Andy Richter, is back, joining O’Brien for the first time on a daily basis since 2000. For a pastry-centric glimpse of their unparalleled on-screen chemistry, look no further than Conan’s guest appearance on Andy Richter Controls the Universe:
Who’s ready for Conan’s first Tonight Show? And if you’re a regular Letterman-monger, will you bother to watch both?

Sorry, Conan. I’m sticking with Dave. Not planning to add more undue stress to my DVR at this point but maybe if I hear of a must-see guest or two I’ll do that from time to time.
Conan all the way. Have been waiting for this for some time now.
I would love to see Conan score bigger ratings than Leno’s finale.

Dave has turned into a grumpy old man, so it’s definitely Conan.
Letterman’s curmudgeonly tendencies were always the perfect antidote to Leno’s toothless glad-handing of celebrities. But as Conan’s self-deprecation is a keystone of his persona, I think I will find him a little less weary than I find Dave at this point in his career.
I can easily see flipping back and forth between the two based on the strengths of their guests. When Leno comes back to Primetime in September, the honeymoon period will be over for Conan. They’ll both be competing for the same guests out in LA.
A similar, and even more appropriate Lucille Bluth quote:
In response to an explanation about a bit on Jimmy Kimmel, she said: “I don’t know who that is, and I don’t care to find out.”
Compared to his current Gumby quaf,Conans hair looks so much better in that segment.
Oh, the wonders of the internet. In this day and age, I no longer need to choose. I will probably watch Conan for this first week. However, I am a loyal Letterman man and will return to him. Thank god for streaming video.
Conan or *Colbert, you mean! I love both. I’ll watch both.
Conan all the way. I gave up on both Letterman and Leno awhile back after being loyal to the late night circuit. However, Conan’s humor is silly and almost chaotic, which catches me off-guard – I LOVE that! My only hope is that he continues to drive his desk. An extremely loyal Late Show viewer, this is his best bit…ridiculously funny!
I adore Dave, but I love me some Conan even more! Luckily everyone in my house is asleep by 11, so I will Tivo both at 11:30, then catch the Colbert rerun at 10:30 the next day. That will give me 2 1/2 hours worth of something to watch just about every evening – I really don’t care if it was from yesterday, I am in it for the laughs, not the news.
Agreed with some previous posters– the REAL choice is between Conan and Colbert.
I’m sure the first week I’ll see Conan live and record Colbert, but I’m sure ultimately that’ll switch around. I mean come on, The Colbert Report is the funniest damn thing on TV right now!!
Conan!!!
Dave all the way. I DVR the other late-night shows if they have guests worth watching.
I love Conan. Letterman is kind old school now for me (and I DO like him), whereas Conan is cutting edge and more daring.
