Another day, another few rounds of the Jon & Kate Plus 8 media circus. Amidst ominous headlines like "Jon and Kate Gosselin face dark side of reality" and "We’re Navigating a Difficult Time" came Us magazine’s slightly more ridiculous cover story tidbit about how Kate apparently used to give Jon a $5 daily allowance. Yeah right! But we’ll play along….
What could Jon Gosselin buy with five dollars?
–Few more seconds of screen time
–A clue from a man on the street
–Chauffeur’s cap (after three days)
–Five Dolluh Foot-Long
–Laminated "Mommy" nametag for Kate so the kids can better distinguish between her and the babysitter
–Laminated card that says "My dignity" so he could play pretend. Maybe with his kids?
–Oh god. There are eight kids. These poor kids. Oh no. What are we doing???
Owwww. My (albeit rapidly deteriorating) conscience hurts right now. Every time I read or write something about this show, there’s an inevitable flick of the switch from bemused intrigue to all-out horror. I know, I know, these people have "asked for it" by going on TV…but still. It’s not about the family dynamics anymore. We’re basically watching the play-by-play of an impending divorce. The horror’s rushing in sooner as of late. Are you there yet, PopWatchers? Putting the season premiere’s record-shattering 9.8 million viewers aside…has Jon & Kate doom begun to settle in?

‘Jon & Kate’: Forget about the cheating chatter, let’s talk about Kate’s hair!

I watched the “Jon & Kate” premiere, and as much as I want to snark, I keep thinking that these people are real people, and it’s sad watching their marriage implode on national television, especially because those adorable, innocent children will suffer if they do divorce.
Jon & Kate need to go to marriage counseling without the cameras rolling if they want to get through this.

I don’t blame him for cheating if this is true.
@Alex – Ugh – no, no, no – there is never an excuse for infidelity. If one spouse is unhappy, he or she can ask their partner to go to counseling if they want to try to save the marriage, or they can separate and ask for a divorce. Bringing another person into the equation is never the answer.
Another article to these media seeking people. Great job feeding the beast EW.

Devil’s advocate here, but I don’t think that the $5/day “allowance” is all that ridiculous for a family on a budget. My husband and I hold ourselves to a similar number to live within the means of our income.
Is bringing 9.8 million people into the equation the answer?
ummm, Christy? Family on a budget?? They are making $75,000 an episode, have free houses, cars, vacations, clothing and lord knows what else. Budget???
Um, Christy – they make like 50k per episode, not to mention lots more for endorsements, book deals, etc. Ya might wanna look at the house they have, the cars they drive and the lifestyle they now live. $5/day is a joke – meant to demean him.
I had been a loyal J&K+8 watcher since their first special lo these many years ago. I have officially quit. The media sh*tstorm that surrounds them is more than I can take.
and Kayla, let’s not forget the loot Kate has brought in from her book deals. They are millionaires. And someone is talking about a budget? LOL!
Christy is right – $5 is MORE than enough for my poor Jon to use. I mean, its the least I can offer him while I’m getting my hair done, my pedicure and manicure, massage, and facial. He got free hair plugs, so whats he complaining about?
I have a WTF moment everytime I see one of these articles. I have never and do not have a desire to watch these people. They’ve sold their and the souls of their children for the price of celebrity. She looks like a Victoria Beckham wanna be and he just looks plain lost. Yet they trot out the kiddies for the amusement of the viewers (and the profit of the network). This is just plain sad.
Enough of this family!! They are plastered all over every magazine cover. Bill O’Reilly even had a segment on them. End this madness.
$5 a day after 30 days..$150 three nites bliss in a Super8 motel.
It’s very sad to watch this play out on tv and the media. My question is, why doesn’t Jon just refuse to be part of the show? Are they all under some iron clad contract? It’s a disgrace, pure show of greed
