In a chat with the LA Times, Dan Aykroyd floated the idea that the upcoming Ghostbusters 3, still in development, could feature several new female recruits. His dream picks? Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku. Interesting — if not exactly out-of-the-box — thinking, Dan. But we’ve got a few ideas of our own…
Zoe Saldana (The Geek Queen)
Hot off of Star Trek, Saldana would would add some crackle to the cast of old-timers. And as a classically trained dancer, she’d probably look pretty great kicking ectoplasmic butt, too.
Emma Watson (The Touch of Class)
She’s had more than enough experience fighting supernatural bad guys in the Harry Potter Movies. Plus, a British accent would be the perfect foil for Aykroyd and Bill Murray’s midwestern whines.
Megan Fox (The Sexpot)
Let’s be honest — pretty much any movie in town would kill to get the foxy Transformers star (pictured). But wouldn’t we all love to see how she’d look in that brown jumpsuit?
Charlyne Yi (The Wild Card)
Michael Cera’s girlfriend — and co-star in the upcoming Paper Heart — doesn’t have a long resumé right now, but she does have just the right nerd-girl charm for the Ghostbuster crew. Hey, maybe Cera could even stop by for a cameo…
Those are our picks, PopWatchers. Yours?

Please, God – Anyone but the empty-headed Megan Fox.
I was thinking Rachel McAdams would make a great Ghostbuster

Yi! I love that idea.
Please not Megan Fox! She’s hot and all, but her acting skills make me cringe!
If Anne Hathaway would do it, she’d be perfect.
1. She’s funny
2. She can do action
3. They can pull out a “Hey Anne- you look white as a ghost!” joke
Stop with the Megan Fox nonsense. She is hot yes, keep her in magazines and Michael Bay fluff pieces. Keep her FAR AWAY from films that require acting. Emma Watson idea is interesting but too young maybe? Rachel McAdams?
Cloris Leachman all the way.
Interesting, that when picking male Ghostbusters, we go for funny, but when picking females, we go for hot. Ghostbusters is still a comedy, right?
Megan Fox…uh, no thank you.
Alison Janney. I don’t care if she’s nearly as old as the originals.
Alyson Hannigan. She’s geeky enough to be a convincing scientist, but also funny and cool.
Let’s not forget that the ‘Busters should be scientists. None of the above could pass for such. Some could barely pass for human.
Let us not forget Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist in Tomorrow Never Dies.
Kristen Bell has spunk & great comedic timing. She could hold her own in any Boy’s club movie.

Megan Fox for sure! I also vote for Shia LaBeouf to star as one of the new Ghostbuster too!!!
I think Eliza would be great actually. But I like the Kristen Bell idea.
Oh, good, I’m not the only Megan Fox-hater. I will admit that I’ve never seen any of her movies, so I can’t comment on her acting skillz, but I don’t get the hype over her. Sometimes she looks pretty. But most of the time… there is something “off” about her face and I can’t put my finger on it. I think she’s kind of weird looking.
Anyway, I like the Emma Watson and Kristen Bell suggestions!
I think Amy Acker should get the role. Anyone who saw her on Angel knows that she can fight convincingly. She is a great actress, and beautiful too!
Jenna Fischer. She’s funny, she’s cute, and but she fits that normal guy (girl) look of the original Ghostbusters — who, remember, are funny guys, not models.
I’ve been able to quote every word of both movies since I was 6 and my dog’s name is Venkman. They need to let ME be in it!!!
Top three people I pray have NOTHING to do with GB3: Megan Fox, Michael Cera and Shia LaBeouf.
When I saw the suggestion of a smart, funny, scientific actress to play a Ghostbuster, I thought of one person. She has a Mathematics degree from UCLA, and very good acting chops: Danica McKellar from the Wonder Years. According to Wikipedia, she’s 34, so it won’t be so creepy with some of the other choices. Just something to think about.
I definitely second Amy Acker! She’s brainy but can kick butt convincingly. Plus she’s adorable
Just wanted to add — why are so many people and EW talking about potential actresses who can kick butt? The original group of Ghostbusters weren’t action heroes in any sense — they took down ghosts using their proton packs, not hand-to-hand combat. I hope this new movie doesn’t turn into something like “The Mummy.”
I’ll hop on the Megan Fox-bashing bandwagon. I agree with MJMN that there’s something “off” about her face. She kind of has that plastic surgery look (boringly perfect, looks designed by committee), but more likely is simply that she wears WAY too much makeup all the time. The girl is all surface and no depth (not on screen, anyway).
But to get to the point of the article, I think G3 needs someone that more like Sigourney Weaver. Fox, Watson, etc. are all too wispy (although I really like Zoe Saldana). Eva Mendez, Stana Katic, Moon Bloodgood, Monica Belluci. I dunno, I’m just thinking off the top of my head here.
Charisma Carpenter would be a great fit.
Megan Fox? Are you kidding. Let’s pick some female comedians like Tina Fey.
Summer Glau has some free time.
What’s wrong with the old girl? My vote is for Sigourney Weaver!
Is this an actress to play the damsel in distress, a new ghostbuster, or the nerdy/angry receptionist?
Because: Amy Adams (dumb blank “save me” stare), Anna Ferris or Emma Stone (is that her name? from Superbad?), and Kristen Wiig.
Actually, forget it, Anna or Kristen for all.
I totally agree with Ryan B. NO SEXPOT in Ghostbusters!! Come on EW, haven’t you seen the originals? It’s not that kind of movie, and I hope to god that they don’t change that. Megan Fox has nothing but her looks, and is not even interesting enough to talk about something besides her looks. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Leave the objectification of women to Maxim.
I say Sigourney has to come back! And as for younger females, it has to be someone nerdy-ish and with brains. Definitely love the Amy Acker idea, I would throw Alyson Hannigan into the mix, as well as Sandra Oh. I like Zoe or Emma for it too. I’d love if there was a role for Catherine Keener, I think she’d fit right in.
