Remember that wonderful, happy feeling that surged through your pop culture-loving brain when Fox said that it was renewing Arrested Development for a third season? And when 30 Rock rebounded from a poorly rated freshman year to win an Emmy in season 2? Well, after days of crossing my fingers, hoping that I’d be able to whip out a Bluth Banana Stand banana (or, more appropriately, some french toast à la Marco) in celebration of a Privileged season renewal, the CW decided to drop a bomb on me: My beloved program would be canceled after all. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to go cry in my Manolo-filled closet — if I had one — after hearing about the fate of the poor, underappreciated Privileged.
How could you cancel the plucky Privileged, CW? How many other programs can offer such a vast amount of cool clothes, good-looking boys, with a Freaks and Geeks alum to boot? (Memo to Hollywood: Give Joanna Garcia a job, stat!) What more could anyone possibly want? Sure, it might not have boasted the high-octane drama of 90210 or booze-swilling, ascot-wearing, mannish children of Gossip Girl, but it certainly was more genuine than any teen-centric drama on the network. So farewell, Privileged. You will be missed within EW’s offices. The world will be just a little sadder without Megan’s quirky wit, Rose and Sage’s endearing sisterhood, and Charlie’s heart-breakingly sweet longing.
Will you miss Privileged as much as I will, PopWatchers? And are you, like me, hoping that they’ll air at least one final show to wrap up all its dangling plotlines (like the fate of Megan and Will’s relationship — watch their oh-so-cute first kiss below)? Please, CW?

Add this to the list of awful CW cancellations behind Everwood and Veronica Mars. I curse you, CW!
Honestly, when is someone at CW gonna get a clue: You don’t cancel shows that have a vocal, passionate fanbase. Especially a high-quality show like Privileged. You think the first season of Seinfeld was funny? No way. It sucked. Yet Privileged was outstanding from the outset. You see, there are shows (like Everybody Hates Chris, etc.) that people never mutter a word about when they’re cancelled. Then there are gems like Everwood and Privileged…people recognize their greatness and are truly PISSED OFF TO THE MAX when they’re prematurely dismissed.
Of course I’m saddened by this cancellation. Stupid CW. What are they thinking?I’m sure this show doesn’t cost that much to produce anyway.I’ll miss the show and too bad the DVD will make me even upset.
what i don’t understand is why some shows are getting picked up by other networks (scrubs to abc last season, now medium maybe to cbs, and my name is earl maybe to fox), while others gems aren’t? privileged is a perfect fit for abc family. samantha who would be great on lifetime. or tbs. grab these shows up – please!
As sad as I am over the departure of Privileged, I still feel lucky that it was the only show I lost this season. There have been years past where so many of my favorites were tossed to the trash that I feel ok to have sacrificed Privileged to keep Chuck, Castle, and Dollhouse. Nothing left for me to watch on CW anymore though. Guess that’s just a sign of being in my late 20s.
I’m so sad.
I’m so sad.
This just it. Was not enough for the CW to cancel Everwood for 7th Heaven when actually no one was watching it. Now you cancel Privileged for a new version of Melrose Place, when we all now that the 90210 2.0 just sucks. Where does this network have the taste and the consideration with the public?
Dawn Ostroff, I really hope that the line up that you chose sucks next season. I really do.
th show was so great, the people were not typical and predictable. it was well written. i will miss it
I for one am, Privileged was and is so much better in all ways possible compared to 90210. There was character development, relationships that didn’t end in a cat-fight, adults that had real roles, amongst others. Privileged was such a nice reminder of what the WB once stood for, good teen drama that strived with charismatic dialogue.
RIP, Privileged, you will be missed.
Privileged was an amazing breath of fresh air for the young adult genre. It is sad that the CW thinks that the only way they can achieve viewers is lame copy-cat shows (I’m looking at you gossip girl and 90210).
No Privileged no, you were so much better than that show with the numbers and I will miss you greatly and Joanna Garcia is a STAR!
tis a sad day, and I am a man in his 30s, but I guess i’m not the demo, I thought we had a little Gilmore Girls growing in our mist, but it stands along side other great witty charming quirky shows that are never given their kudos it deserved very sad to see it go, out of every single show on air, it was the one i was waiting to hear it’s fate, fingers crossed didn’t work!
The CW always tries to cater to the teenage girl who’s not slutty or scandalous, but like Veronica Mars’ cancellation, the CW wants to such thing.
Which is weird, since Veronica Mars clobbered most of Gossip Girl’s ratings and viewership, and she fought American Idol Tuesdays!
Maybe discussing the cancellation of a TV show is trivial and unimportant considering today’s economic climate, however, I am very sad that there is no more Privileged. It was an engaging, well-acted show with terrific young actresses and the wonderful Anne Archer, who I have loved forever. Joanna Garcia certainly deserved her own show after her fabulous portrayal as Cheyenne on Reba. Oh, yes, the CW canceled that terrific show, too. I still watch it every day in syndication. CW, you suck!!!!!!
