'Gossip Girl' flashback: What did you think?

Filed under: Television and tagged: , ,

Gosip_girl_lThe much-hyped ’80s episode of Gossip Girl (which could end up as its own spin-off series once The CW announces its fall slate on May 21) just aired and — no big surprise here — I enjoyed it. SPOILERS AFTER THE JUMP.

Occasionally, the back and forth felt a little forced, and I stilldon’t believe that adult Lily would ever have her daughter thrown injail but whatever. In terms of just the flashback stuff, I thought itwas a blast. Brittany Snow was absolutely perfect. I love a goodfashion montage and this one, set to "Dancing With Myself," did notdisappoint. Plus the supporting cast, especially Krysten Ritter, waslikable and cute. Those are qualities that I admire in television castsas well as puppies. In summary, I would totally watch a BrittanySnow-fronted Gossip Girl spin-off.

What say you, Pop Watchers? Would you tune in for a whole new GG series based on this?

OMG!!! RYAN HANSEN!!! Please tell me he’s a spin-off regular!!!
Thought the 80′s stuff was way super cool considering that’s my era. Great work with the music and I even liked No Doubt’s rendition of Stand and Deliver (Adam Ant was totally drool-worthy back in the day). And Andrew McCarthy fit perfectly, with Spader coming in the form of Serena’s Van Der Woodsen dad.

I actually really liked it and I wasn’t expecting too. I would definitely watch it next fall if it is picked up…crosses fingers!

Loved it. All the actors were good (really liked Cynthia Watros in her few scenes, and Brittany was adorable)…and the music was fantastic. I didn’t connect to any of the characters except Lily and her family though, which could be an issue. The GG people had instant chemistry and were instantly unique and interesting. The main love interest guy was only ok and i’m tired of shows searching out the next Rob Pat lookalike — brothers and sisters I am looking at you), and the other band guy was funny but didn’t seem very complex as a character. Even though it’s set in the ’80s and is supposed to be ‘fun’ I do want it to have depth too. But I thought it was a good start and if they carry over the best elements into the actual show and tweak the stuff that didn’t really work I think it could be really good. I’ll probably watch regardless =)

I really loved it. I liked the flashback part better than regular GG this week. I really hope the CW picks it up…….. anything we can do to help “Lily” make the fall schedule????

I’m surprised how much I liked it, personally I thought it was better then the GG episode(I always hate the ones MP directs cause he always make Blair seem one note and b i t c h y).

i watch gossip girl and 90210 on the cw every week. and i think this would be a well added show on the channel. i thought it was fresh and fun and that the cast is stellar. i really hope the show pulls through. i think the new mischa barton show sounds lame. and that melrose feels too rushed.

Okay I must have been watching something else because that sucked. The only good thing was seeing the 2 old Veronica Mars actors. The cutting back and forth gave me a headache. That flashback didn’t make me care about Lily or even curious about her. Also there is no way Lily Rhodes Bass, who cares what people think, would have let Serena stay in jail. That would have ended up all over the papers. I need Georgina back badly. Serena/Dan are so boring I unknownly fall asleep during their scenes. I Serena needs to start drinking again or something to give that girls some personality again. That whole flashback was a waste of time. I can see why CW would pass on it.

It was cute, but I missed the gang and would’ve loved to have seen more Chuck! Concerning the flashbacks, I
was more interested in the sister and those two dudes she hangs out with than Lily. And why is (Eric? Keith? Doug?) Van Der Woodsen such a jerk? Lily marries that a__h___?

I loved it! I really want to see how the show could progress.

I wasn’t a huge fan of young lily’s mother’s acting and was disappointed that this took up what could have been a great episode about the prom. CHUCK! BLAIR! Divine.
It has potential–I didn’t find myself disliking it–but some of the acting bugged me. It wasn’t great. And I just didn’t like the back and forth. Some of it was really forced, as you said.

I loved it, too, and I cannot believe how much. Brittany Snow’s “American Dreams” role much helped her nail this character. Since JANE FONDA’S WORKOUT was featured, what do you think? Was it 1982? Hope the CW spins it off.

Ugh. I did not enjoy. I don’t like the new, unabashed Bass. Explaining himself to Serena is totally out of character. Kinda made me retch.
I don’t think I would enjoy the Lily of the Valley. I thought Brittany Snow was awful, and that the whole thing lacked the bite of the real Gossip Girl.

Hated it. No clever banter. A bore.

I loved it and I will definitely watch the spin-off. Chuck makes me swoon. No Doubt was awesome. I loved Lily’s sister.
