'30 Rock': Best moments from 'The Natural Order'

I hate to say it, but last night’s 30 Rock was nowhere near as good as it’s been the past few weeks. ‘The Natural Order’ did have some good zingers, and an unexpected, but welcome, sentimental scene between Jack and his usually horrendous mother Colleen (the glorious Elaine Stritch). But overall, the episode was too dependent on obvious physical comedy (Jenna gets attacked by a monkey, Liz can’t put a water cooler together, and Tracy wears a Cosby sweater. Okay, I actually really liked that last one.) What do you think, PopWatchers? Did ‘The Natural Order’ feel a little stale to you or am I just bitter that I don’t get to ride a duck boat to work? Here, in chronological order, are last night’s best moments:

1.Tracy pulls out an actual race card.

2. Colleen didn’t want to stay at a certain hotel because someone working there "had a beard and she didn’t want to get raped."

3. The word "shenanigans" is actually Celtic slang.

4. Griz, Dot Com, and Kenneth try to return a monkey by putting it in an elevator with a sign that reads: "Take me to Indonesia"

5.Colleen’s boyfriend Paul "paints landscapes and makes his own soda."

6. Florida : America’s Australia!

7. Lenny makes an appearance (ah, Steve Buscemi in all his wonderfully weird glory):

8. "She bit off my nut sack that I tied around my belt to feed squirrels."

9. "That’s the Quantum Leap intro!"

10. Twist!

As someone who lives in CT, and was utterly horrified by the events regarding the chimpanzee who ripped a woman’s face off, I found the Jenna-monkey plotline entirely tasteless. I don’t like saying this, but “Too Soon.”

I liked the episode but did not love it. The water cooler scene was something that they normally do very well. Take a cliche and turn it on it’s ear. Last night they just did the cliche. From the second she had to change the water cooler, you knew it would be water everywhere.
However, when Lutz passed wind and there was a brief blow of air moving Liz’s hair…well that was a nice touch.

I’d add this quip to the list. Liz: “Do you wanna hug?” Jack: “What is this? The Italian parliament?”

Loved it as always. The ‘Race Card’ made me fall out of my chair. What the hell was up between Liz and Grizz?? Did Liz have a ‘thing’ for Grizz??????

Gibbons are not monkeys. Sorry to have to play the species card.

Mediocre 30 Rock is better than just about everything else in sitcom land. Let Two and a half Men be a reminder of where we could be. I actually like the water cooler bit – though predictable. I thought when the stripper touched Liz’s face was funny.

Loved the episode. It was really funny! Especially the whole race card scene. What I want to know is why EW no longer does a Recap of 30Rock, just these lame “best moments of”. 30 Rock, at this point, is better than The Office, so it deserves a full recap!

For a minute I thought they were saying that Jack’s father was Neal Cassady. WIth all the references to him leaving and coming back……… It’s always funny when Tracy wears his “serious” glasses and starts acting professional. Loved the sequence when they showed him dancing and telling the camera guys what to do.

This one also cracked me up: “It’s Florida, Jack!…. And a man like that, who can drive at night: you just don’t say no to that!”

I agree this was not my fav ep. I did love professional Tracy with his glasses and cosby sweater. Also when liz turned the table on him with the strip club scene. Lets go see some moms and daughters!

Even a weak eppyis better than other sitcoms [like someone before me said]. Even this episode tops The Office. Not to be slagging off The Office, but the 30 Rock wackiness is still more relatable [which is ironic]. No 30 Rock episode is filler, it just leads to the next, for example, now we can see where Alan Alda’s character is coming in :)

CT resident – Must we tar all primates with the same brush? No gibbons, as far as I know, have attacked any faces in the northeastern U.S.

It was funny when Liz’s hair moved after Lutz passed gas. That dude has so many problems.

  • Tom

I, like Kenneth, enjoy having squirrels feed from my nut sack. It gives me a good feeling.

Aww you missed my favorite line!
“Let’s go see some naked daughters and moms!”
    – Liz on her way to the strip club
