I begin tonight’s quick-hit post-American Idol recap the same way I did last night’s, with a quote from mentor Jamie Foxx: "WHAT?" And, folks, I’m not just talking about the Oscar winner’s vocoderific performance of "Blame It." [SPOILERS ahead, West Coast friends!] Nope, I’m talking about the eyebrow-raising bottom three, the top-two status of a certain pink-haired rocker chick, and the fact that Adam Lambert didn’t sit on the floor at center stage when Ryan asked him to choose a spot alongside Kris-Matt or Danny-Allison. Nope, Glambert, basing his decision on the previous nights performances, took his place alongside the latter duo, only to get pulled by Ryan to the other side of the stage, and told he was the missing link in the Rat Pack bottom three! Color me j’shocked, j’flabbergasted, and j’bewildered, ’cause I didn’t see that one coming! But no matter how you felt about the voting tallies, and the eventual ouster of the man whose name rhymes with "hat," you’ve got to admit this was the most suspenseful elimination episode of Idol’s eighth season, and it didn’t need no stinkin’ Judges’ Save to achieve it.
Anyhow, please do post your thoughts/feelings/medical-psychological status in the comments section below, and if you haven’t had enough dramz in your night, do press play on our five-part Idolatry interview with Anoop Desai. Dude is candid, funny, and hella smart, and he also talks about what made him punch a wall backstage at Idol. Not to be missed!

What a shocker of a final 3..wow. I knew Matt was gone…but Adam and Kris.

ONE BAD WEEK AND ADAM WAS IN BOTTOM TWO..DISAPPOINTING…….COME ON AMERICA BASE YOUR VOTES ON HIS SINGING NOT HIS FREAKING LIFE STYLE…
I don’t buy that bottom two for a minute. I think Matt going home was pretty predictable (despite my best efforts).
Adam in the bottom 3 is a joke. They only pretended he was in the bottom 3 so people would watch the show.
Simon’s little mind-games last night came back to bite him — everyone tried to save Allison (and she deserved it, but OMG!) I hope Simon has learned his lesson, but probably not.
I don’t think there are a ton of people not voting for Adam because of his lifestyle. Some people simply have different tastes; I’m a liberal through and through, and I’d rather listen to Kris any day.
OMG WTF! There is no way on God’s green Earth that Danny Gokey is actually getting more votes from the viewing public than Adam Lambert. Who the hell is voting for that guy?!? Do people not recognize true original talent over the same hackneyed schlock that record companies have been throwing at us for years and expecting us to swallow. If Danny Gokey wins American Idol, it will just prove that the recording industry is as dead as everyone has been saying for the last few years. Wake up America!!! Don’t let yourselves be brainwashed by the establishment of 19 Entertainment LTD!!! Save your ears and your radios from years of dreck!!! Put the GO in Gokey and vote for Adam Lambert!!!
Ok that bottom three had me freaked out. More importantly while Allison seemed shocked and concerned, Danny acted like, well how he always acts. Slug smug.
rigged kris was in the bottom 2 this is a producer’s ploy
I call BS on the Idol producers. Adam and Kris in the bottom 3 was purely manufactured drama.
shocking! but glad and relieved that adam is safe! whew!
I am delighted that Allison is safe, but really, Adam in the botton two? I can’t think of any explanation for that other than that his fans got complacent because he is so obviously (as has been said many times) on another level.
Complacency over, I assume.
It is hilarious to watch some people flip their lids over this. Way to go Kris Allen and Danny Gokey!! Keep crying, and of course hurling the personal attacks at Danny Gokey, EW message board users, because it apparently makes your crappy lives feel better, but just remember who was safe this week.
I’m disgusted. Adam and Kris in the bottom three and Danny is safe once again. I guess Danny really is this year’s Taylor Hicks. Now that we have the final four, Danny probably needs to win AI to sell records. The other three can makes albums and find fans with no problem.
Goodbye Matt… finally.
