We were just as relieved when Universal revealed its new Bruno poster today as when we got our first look at the movie’s brilliant red-brand trailer. Despite our impossibly high standards for Sacha Baron Cohen’s follow-up to 2006′s outrageous and gut-bustingly astute Borat, so far Brüno is right on the money.
The peeks we’ve gotten of the comedy — which chronicles the flamboyant Austrian fashion reporter’s travels across America — feel related to Borat without being stale or repetitive. It’s like meeting Borat’s raunchy, full-of-himself, city-dwelling, fashion-whoring gay cousin. The new one-sheet features Brüno standing straddle-legged in a Sound of Music-like field of yellow flowers, looking over his shoulder with an I’m-too-sexy-for-this-poster glance, a pair of micro-mini lederhosen riding up his derriere. In a semi-inspired touch, a URL at the bottom directs you to the film’s "MeinSpace" page.
It’s weird to say, but sometimes we’re happy to embrace being marketed to when it’s done so masterfully. What do you think, PopVatchers? Can you handle the fabulousness?

I think Sacha Baron Cohen is SO 2006.
can’t wait to see it, when does the movie come out?
I gotta say, I don’t find him funny. I feel like I should, because I tend to laugh at things I shouldn’t, but Borat was unfunny and now this looks just as unfunny.
I would argue that Sacha Baron Cohen is the funniest guy on the planet. Check out some of his Ali G stuff on You Tube and see if you don’t bust a gut laughing.

PERFECT slogan for the movie! Because everyone will compare it to Borat, and they know that. So they use it. Great job. Can’t wait to see it.

I’ve compared Eugene Hutz’s character in “Everything is illuminated” to Borat–and guess what, Borat’s poster mimics “Everything is illuminated”(!!!)
this man is unfunny in Ali G and the only reason i saw Borat was b’cuz my friends wanted to and guess what, irony came back to bite them in the ass. Basically, they hated it and so did i. He clearly took away from Sweeney Todd, and he aint any funnier with these “personas”
I guess I’m low brow because I LOVED Borat and laughed my a** off at the trailer for “Bruno”.
This one’s definitely in my top 5 to see this summer!
sorry, but Borat and this new movie Bruno really dosesnt look that money..i guess that makes me a stupid American …sigh
Sasha Baron Cohen is hilarious, and if you don think so, then you just don’t get it. Which is fine. Brüno will be über fantastisch.
I’m gay and find the poster rather gross. But can’t wait to see the film.
I didn’t see Borat.. for some reason I want to watch this one, but I’m scared….
Fierce poster! I can’t wait to laugh and then all of a sudden cringe when I think about how some Americans will act in this movie.
Nice stems, Sasha.
