'Idolatry': Scott MacIntyre on his sense of humor and post-'Idol' plan for radio domination

Just because he was the undeniable nice guy of American Idol’s eighth season, don’t think for a second that Scott MacIntyre hasn’t got swagger. Check out the piano man’s three-part Idolatry exit interview below, in which Scott theorizes how he won over fans via "clever, diplomatic" banter with the judges, reveals which finalist snatched his original song choice for Grand Ole Opry night, explains why he feels he excelled — while his competitors struggled — during "Top Downloads" night, and shares his academic formula for writing "radio-friendly" music.

Scott McIntyre thinks a little too highly of himself. Very unappealing.

Scott is great!!! He knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go for it. Best of luck to you Scott, We love you

  • whatcha

Wow, he’s so young. I think it’s just the insecurity talking.

  • kg

It’s true. He has a lot to be proud of, but it doesn’t come across well to toot your horn that much.

  • Ghost of Kelly Clarkson

Wow. I’m even more impressed by Scott — what a warm, funny, genuine guy. I wish him great success, regardless what his future holds.

  • Shaunee

Scott sounds great. I think he will do well once he gets his album out. I miss seeing him on American Idol.

Give me a break Sleazesack, you bad mouthed Scott for weeks, and now you’re being two-faced just because he’s there. You do that contantly. Can’t wait until Rounds gets voted off just to see you slobber all over her. Twit.

Oh dear, I listened to that interview and all I could think was – “now I know why he’s single” – he is soooo NOT second date material. All the self depracating humor was gone and replace by “let me tell you my resume”. As an example, in response to the “interactig with the judges” question – he should have said – “Well age has it’s advantages in having more experience in how to communicate with other – and I spent some time in England and some of that charm and whit rubbed off on me.” But NO! he started talking about his academic scholarshipts and proizes he’s won – it was kindo of off putting – my eyebrows went up as did Michael’s. All in all, it was one of the most off putting, unnatural feeling intervies I hve seen on idolatry in a while. It’s too bad beucase on the show he genuinely did seem charming.

Wow, I intensely dislike Scott after seeing that interview. He was so hoity-toity with that “I had to turn down my Fulbright Scholarship; hmm…yes, it’s hard to be this smart” crap. I’m glad you’re voted off buddy! Who thought that such a bland singer would create such a visceral reaction.

He talks a lot because he got lots to talk about. And he is just telling the truth. And besides, which of the remaining contestant can talk about things like that? Maybe, Anoop has a little bit of something to say. If you don’t know him and not liked him on AI, stop judging him. If you don’t like him, then just sit back and see what will happen in the future. He knows himself more than anybody else. Insecurity???? Unappealing??? I don’t think so.

Sometimes when folks are way ahead academically, they don’t learn to socialize as well as if they are with kids their own age. Just saying. He should be proud of his accomplishments, though.

I think he could have been interviewed more aggressively instead of left to ramble. He is tough enough to take it if you took control and drove the conversation more.

What Scott said about himself, we all said before he did. What would you expect of him, say he goes in the corner with his empty guitar case open and play for alms? Anyone went for an interview and was short of things to say about your resume; and can’t even see the interviewer’s reaction every time you speak of your accomplishments after you were asked for it? At least if you see the interviewer’s expression, you will know when to pull the accomplishments’ reign, so you won’t sound like bragging, or over qualified. When you sell yourself in an interview, you are supposed to hand them your qualifications… I can see that sometimes, a “non-discriminating person” can only do that if the qualifications of the interviewed are not more than the interviewer.

Wow, healthy ego there, Scott! Seriously, clearly the guy is very bright, but I never thought he was anything more than a mediocre singer and a very by-the-book and soulless pianist. Has anybody ever given this guy honest feedback? He comes across like a delusional, self-absorbed, pedantic child.

I dont get how people can say Scott sounded arrogant. He was asked a question and he answered it. He explained himself very well. and came across as genuine. He has confidence in himself. He is still one of the nicest down to earth contestants on Idol. And he was and is an amazing Singer/Piano player

I didn’t find anything arrogant in Scott’s responses. He was intelligent and down to earth. I generally like more exciting music than what he does and there were definitely better singers in the competition. But a great guy.

The reason Scott had to turn down the Fellbright Scholarship is because he had kidney failure and had to return to the US for a kidney transplant. People should get the facts before judging.
