'Melrose Place' 2.0: Sydney's coming back from the dead

Lauraleightonmelroseplace_lOMG. Laura Leighton is returning to Melrose Place! This gives me license to be completely psyched. I’ve had my concerns about the show, and early casting news did little to assuage my fears. But the return of Sydney? Really? Like, the craziest character of the ’90s — certainly crazier than Melrose‘s more beloved Amanda Woodward (Heather Locklear) — is coming back? Uh, from the dead? You got me, New Melrose. I cannot resist the siren song of Sydney Andrews Mancini Field.

If the rumor is true, Sydney is now the landlord of the dramahaĆ¼s, which will no doubt bring back a lot of memories for her. Like when she put on her sister Jane’s wedding dress and the two of them had a catfight in the pool. Or when she ran a high-end prostitution ring out of her apartment there, or got sucked into a creepy cult by her roommate, or when she drugged Jane and then had to take care of her, or when the two of them killed Jane’s rapist, except he wasn’t dead. Ah, the old days!  Most importantly, it might bring back the memory that Syndey died. At her own wedding.

I love that Melrose 2.0 is embracing the sort of internal logic that made the first series so sublime: none. Melrose is a show that taught us you can survive a fall from any height, as long as you land on top of another person; that it’s easy to have someone committed to a mental institution, that surgeons frequently moonlight as psychiatrists, and that people drink like, pint glasses full of vodka. Congrats, show, on throwing off the shackles of reason and embrace the anything-goes policy of your ancestor! Viva la Sydney!

Anyone else counting the hours until this reboot is upon us? Any other alumni you want to see come back for 2.0?

First, I find the idea of a new Melrose strange. But this decision is beyond bizarre. She’s dead! That would be like bringing back a new version of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, with Chuckles the Clown as the weather guy!
And BTW, no one was crazier than Dr. Kimberly Shaw!

I agree whole heartedly. I was worried they were going to tone down the vibe of this new melrose.. make it more “grounded” but that is the last thing I want to see from my melrose place, I want over the top, bitchy guilty pleasures
I am finally excited to see what this show has to offer.
I also wouldnt mind a little Lexi

This is awesome. I thought I was done with it when they announced Locklear was not on board, but I’ll totally come back for Sydney (as long as she has real storylines, unlike the vets on the 90210 reboot).

When I heard Simpson was gonna be in it, I said no way. But now they have the mystically resurrected Sydney Andrews! I am suddenly excited about something I had thought to be a terrible idea. I’m hoping that Sydney will have a better role on Melrose than Kelly does on 90210. Since Syd’s a scheming nutjob who always falls for the wrong guy, hopefully she’ll mix in with the antics of her tenants. I don’t want her to be older and wiser. I’d almost suggest that the car accident should leave her in a fragile mental state, but that might be going too far.

Idiots at TheCW. ’90210′ has lost MORE than HALF (50%) its audience since it’s Sept. ’08 debut. So an unnecessary ’2.0′ deserves an unnecessary spin-off ’2.0′? I think not.

I hate when shows kill someone off then decide to bring them back!!! I guess Kimberly Shaw will be back too! I will not be watching this trash. Just like I stop watching Dallas after Bobby Ewing’s death was turned into “a dream” how stupid!!!!

Laura Leighton is very talented, and this is fantastic news for the show. Sydney lives…Yeah :)!! And now I’m excited to watch the show

    From Wikipedia:
“Craig and Sydney’s wedding ends out in front of a church, while Samantha and her father have a car accident from the police chase. They crash through a nearby bus stop and run over Sydney, leaving Craig crying over Sydney’s bloody body.”
This was the end of that particular season, and in the season opening after that season, Syndey was dead. DEAD! How are the writers going to explain what happened?

MY DREAM COME TRUE HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAYYYY SYDNEY IS BACK FROM THE DEAD!!

  • Cleetus

Grant Show, Andrew Shue, Josie Bissett, Daphne Zuniga….sign up. You know it’s the right thing to do.

This is my theory: Sydney was hit on her wedding day to Craig by Sam’s father behind the wheel. Sydney was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. However her parents instructed Matt and other doctors to say that so they can send a comatose Sydney home where she can be safe from all those nutjobs at Melrose, and out of respect for her parents Jane knew the truth as well. Sydney suffered severe injuries and over the years she slowly recovered and back to her scheming bitchy ways and in full force is back to show the new generation a thing or two, on how to get what you want and bury other people to do it. Classic. In my opinion with her being on the show, could add a lot of spice to it, and bring back that campy Melrose (some of us) loved so much. Now bring back Michael, Jane of course to wrap up sense in Sydney’s story, Jake, Jo and of course the master B herself Amanda, and in my opinion if they do this, The CW will knock 90210 off its raitings behind.

And to all you HATERS go away and get a life!

  • oldschoolmelrose

Marcia Cross needs to make an appearance, so that Kimberly’s ghost can haunt Michael. I’d also really like to see Courtney Thorne Smith show up. I mean, who doesn’t want to know what the heck happened to alcoholic Allison?

  • Charlotte

Well if there is anyone to bring back to life it should be Sydney! She is the craziest and most entertaining!

  • James Lenaghan

    Eh… I hope this is a joke!
