Mos Def guest-stars in tonight’s House as a patient with Locked-In Syndrome — a condition we’ve recently seen in CSI: NY, ER (the Cynthia Nixon ep), and of course, Julian Schnabel’s 2007 Oscar-nominated The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Watch the House promo below. He sings so beautifully on the inside! (You can also watch a few preview clips over at E! Online.)
If the storyline calls to mind the classic two-part "Point of View" episode of M*A*S*H, you’re not alone. Today, former M*A*S*H screenwriter Ken Levine wrote on his blog, "Tonight’s edition of HOUSE is seen through the point of view of apatient. Huh??? David Isaacs and I wrote that in 1978 for MASH. It’skind of a famous episode. I just watched a preview of the HOUSE episodeand it looks like the exact same show. Or maybe it’s just an ‘homage’."
What do you think? If recycled plot points didn’t occur constantly — especially in medical or criminal dramas — there might not be any more TV. And I find Locked-In Syndrome so fascinating/appalling that I’d gladly watch any episode of any show about it, except maybe a Rock of Love Bus. What say you — "Been there, done that" or "More, more, more! (How do you like it, how do you like…your Locked-In Syndrome…)"?

There can only be so many medical ailments – there have to be repeats across various shows. As far as the Locked-In Syndrome, Cynthia Nixon did a stellar job with this on an episode of ER.
Yes, because once something’s been written about once, it must never be written about again. Way to be a sad, past-his-prime comaplainer, Mr. Levine. Hey, didn’t you write about war? Homer did that about circa 800 BC! For shame, you copycat.
No, ill be watching CHUCK tonight.
I’ll definitely be watching. The sheer abundance of television programs means that some stories/plots will get replayed, but as long as they’re done well, it doesn’t bother me. Not to mention the fact that Hugh Laurie can bring a recitation of the dictionary to life.
I think Metallica beat this topic to death in “One” — which was based on the story “Johnny got his gun” written in … 1939 (source: wikipedia)
I’ll catch it in a rerun or online – Chuck gets my live viewing tonight.
I am mos def watching tonight. Fo sho!
I never miss House anyway so…
Looks like an excellent episode – I’ll watch CHUCK live (hey, in these times I need a good laugh and some fluff), and tivo House….
I’m with Tim. I’ll watch Chuck live (it needs the ratings more) and DVR House. Looks like a great episode!
Sorry – but who cares about Mash? That show used to come on when I was like 11yrs old in the 80s, and I hated it then. House is for a new generation. This episode probably pays homage to Mash – but Hugh Laurie is SOOO much better to watch than Alan Alda.
I’ve been a little lax in my “House” viewing lately; lots of backlog on Tivo. But I won’t miss this. Mos Def is a fantastic actor. If you haven’t seen “Something the Lord Made,” from HBO, check it out. He is wonderful and it’s a powerful story. I’ll mos def be watching tonight! Thanks, EW, for the heads up.
Wow, EW is paying attention to “House” again! No “Twilight” crap to dish on today?
I’ll watch House read from the telephone book. It’s the only show worth watching anymore.
Sorry Shawn of DWTS… House is my man tonight…
