After a 15 year self-imposed soap opera break, I started watching GL last year. I gotta say, it would be a huge loss if it went off the air. The Otalia s/l rips my heart out every day and every day I go back begging for more. And even though CC and JL’s storyline is what got me initially hooked, I’m really getting sucked into the Dinah/Shayne, Phillip and Lizzie storylines. GL’s writing staff should be commended.

Yes, I would be crushed if they canceled it! Finally, a beautifully written, intelligent, thoughtful, heart wrenching story gets written about 2 woman falling in love (Go Otalia!!!), and I don’t want to see it ended and replaced with mindless fluff!! Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia are brilliant actresses and have been putting their all into this storyline! Ellen Wheeler and the writers have put a lot of time and energy into this storyline and if the network can’t give them another year to explore this (and other improved storylines as well) then they are crazy! Do we really need more talk shows?? “Reality” shows, which are just staged events? I don’t think so!!

I haven’t watched any soaps for years, although I was a regular viewer at one time or another of most of the soaps on TV within the last 25-30 years, other than Passions. My mom watched the CBS afternoon soaps when I was a kid, so I remember sitting on the floor in front of her chair while she watched. I happened to tune in for a few moments today and saw Phillip talking to Reva. My first thought was that Phillip hasn’t changed much since the 80s. Nor has Reva–she still flies off the handle at the drop of a hat.
It’ll be doubly sad if GL gets axed–once for the loss of TV’s longest-running soap, and again for the thought of another crappy show like Tyra taking its place.

reading this news today was the downer of the century! I’ve watched this show since I was a teen and only recently returned to regular viewing when I caught wind of the break-out pairing btw Olivia and Natalia. I can’t wait for each new installment in their story and the idea that we could lose such a once-in-a-lifetime couple (super couple in the making!) make me literally sick to my stomach. I also have loved seeing Phillip’s return and have come to love the fresh new format of the show. I really hope CBS and TPTB don’t do this just when the show is returning to the energy not seen since its heyday, and now, too, when so many are home and out of hope needing something as uplifting and hopeful as Guiding Light. All other soaps are pits of despair in comparison. Don’t turn out the Light CBS! Don’t do it!

I think it would be a travesty if GL is canceled. This show is doing so many things right! It’s the best soap on the air! The Otalia storyline is BEAUTIFUL and one of the most captivating stories I’ve seen in a long time. Dinah, Phillip, Bizzie, Shayne,….. so much good stuff. Please keep it on the air.

I was never a soap fan before. I was introduced to Guiding Light this January by a friend due to the wonderfully written and executed Olivia/Natalia storyline. I was immediately hooked because of the impeccable writing and the amazing actors. Now, I am invested in the whole show. I watch Guiding Light regularly. I know my story is not unique. There are a lot of new viewers who are tuning in to see Guiding Light because of the stories that are currently being told. I watch Guiding Light now not just for the Olivia/Natalia story line, even though that is where I am most invested; I watch the show for all the other story lines too. Dinah, Shayne, Billy, Phillip and Lizzie…I am invested in all their stories too.I would hate to see this show cancelled. I’ve been going back and watching older episodes of the show to get some back stories and I appreciate the legacy of this show and now I see the future potential.PLEASE KEEP THE SHOW ON THE AIR.

This isn’t a done deal here, people, so I won’t be doing a eulogy. I will say that Guiding Light has been a part of my life for the better part of 30 years and for my mother’s for 50. The show has been better than it’s been in a long time of late and the enthusiasm I see on boards for the show is amazing and it’s growing. A lot of this is due to Otalia, but it’s the overall quality that is attracting people.
As long as we keep calling, writing, emailing and posting CBS, TeleNext, Procter & Gamble and online sites, Guiding Light will be a part of our lives for the foreseeable future.

I grew up on Guding Light – I came back to Guiding Light because of Otalia and wound up loving the rest of the storyline with other characters. Please keep this show on – it is the best written and the best acted period.

I’m a viewer who came from primetime and was reluctant about most soaps but this one just drew me in and now I don’t know what I would do without it! GL is well written, well thought-out, has amazing storylines and not to mention is brilliantly acted! It greatly surpasses not only all other soaps out there but most primetime shows as well. And now with the Otalia storyline the show has just broken through a whole new set of boundaries. Each and every day it continues to astound me with it’s brilliance. IT NEEDS TO STAY.

  • Lyn

Guiding Light must stay on the air. It is been improving a lot within the last year. It is heading in the right direction. It is gaining viewers – new and old. I like all the stories, but Olivia and Natalia’s story is a much needed positive representation of a same-sex love story.
    Guiding Light must be renewed!!

  • fan

Keep Guiding Light going. It is really good right now and it continues to improve daily. I started watching it again for the Otalia story but they have many others that are great as well… Dinah and Shayne, Bill and Lizzie, and everything going on with Phillip.

  • Phoenix11

Guiding Light has been a part of my life every day for the better part of 25 years. Losing it would be like losing a family member. I sincerely hope that GL is renewed, especially given that I really feel the show turned a corner in 2009. From Otalia to Phillip’s return to the casting of Jeff Branson, GL has been amazing over the past few months. Words can’t even describe how I would feel if the show does not stay on the air.

  • Marsha

I started watching Guiding Light only recently and I am absolutely loving it. I moved away from AMC for it’s poor storytelling and no other soap was able to catch my attention but GL. I think the show is on the rise, Olivia/Natalia love story is fantastic, Grant Alexander being back is very exciting, and there are a lot of storylines to enjoy. I hope all these rumours are not true, I finally found a soap I can love again!

  • OddlyEven

Hell yeah I’ll miss it! CBS better think long and hard before they decide to cancel this long running and much loved show. There are still about 2 million people who watch it, according to the ratings (and I think the number is just slightly higher than that). The show has it’s problems but what show doesn’t? It’s getting so much better just since the beginning of the year. Long Live The Light! Tyra rip-offs and other crappy talk shows will be ignored!
