There’s been a whole bunch of web chatter lately about whether Betty should start canoodling with her boss, Daniel Meade, on Ugly Betty this season. Apparently a lot of people are into this idea, and in versions of Ugly Betty in other countries, that has, in fact, happened between those two characters. But now Eric Mabius, the actor who plays Daniel here in the good old USA, tells the Associated Press that he thinks a Betty-Daniel romance would be lethal. "That would be the equivalent of us jumping the shark," Mabius told the AP. "In all the other series . . . they get married and the show ends! I’m not too excited about that idea!" Typically, when shows built around romantic tension do finally let their lead actors get horizontal, it does tend to suck the life out of the show. Moonlighting and Cheers immediately spring to mind. But it would be delicious to see the ultimate ladies’ man realize that the perfect woman for him was right in front of him all along. And she isn’t a size zero. What do you think popwatchers? Would a Betty-Daniel makeout session light your fire? Or would it have you running for the remote?

No Way! That would never work in a million years, especially this season. How could Daniel Meade go from having his girlfriend die of cancer and immediately hooking up with Betty. I don’t think Betty would have any interest in Daniel. They have a purely professional relationship and friendship, but nothing more should come out of it. It would definitely signal the end of the show.
This has been highly debated on message boards since the show began. I’m firmly in the camp that in THIS version (America & Eric) there should never be a hook-up. I know for a fact, though, that there are those who feel very strongly the other way.
It would just feel incestuous.

Anyway, unlike some people I know, I think that it would be a big mistake for Daniel and Betty to be a couple. They’ve developed more of a brother-sister vibe, and while it would complete Daniel’s growth from self-centered, womanizing creep to a thoughtful, considerate man for him to date someone outside the “norm” in the fashion world, Molly is already that person, if TV’s version.
I think they should. Maybe not right away, but when the show approaches the end it should definitely happen! I also want Betty to change her style and not be ‘ugly’ anymore. It may be the American version, but it should try to follow the essence of the original version.
Crystal, I’m glad there’s someone on my side too! I haven’t seen the other versions of the show, but I guess the Betty character had repressed or secret feelings for the boss. This hasn’t been the case in this version, so it would feel very choppy and plot device just to bring in higher ratings.

I think it would be funny if they hook up at some point – but that’s it. I like that this show isn’t doing the whole cliche fall in love with your boss thing!

different versions have different character chemistry. betty & the boss hooking up in the american version will not bode well at all. it’s really hard to imagine, bec daniel is more like an older brother to betty. so for me it’s like eww jump the shark much?

some people are just gonna have to be happy with Betty-Daniel fan fiction, becuase in this version of the show, that’s a big NUH-UH. i agree with some other people on here, they’re like family. they’re close, but completely platonic. why can’t a show ever have a male and a female lead with no intentions of romantic chemistry without people wanting them to hook up anyway? just enjoy the friendship dammit.
I like the idea, but I think it could be too soon. Daniel and Hilda, however, I think may be very good. I think Daniel would make a great father for Justin.
