Pretty rocking episode. Dark and disturbing. I loved Sayid’s line: "You used exactly enough!" and the scary giggle that escaped him afterward. What I’m not loving right now: Sayid’s purple shirt. Lose that thing in the jungle already! Why the heck is Radzinsky so darn worried about the Hostiles learning about his precious not-yet-built Swan station? What’s the nature of the relationship between Dharma: The Island and Dharma: Ann Arbor? Did you see the ending coming? I did, but it still blew me away. What will change as a result of Sayid’s actions? Anything? Nothing? And what do you know about Carlos Castaneda, author of the newest Lost cited book, A Separate Reality? If you want an easy introduction to the writer, check out his book with the very Lost-evocative name: The Wheel of Time. I’m working on my recap with my take on all these questions. Come back here in the A.M. for the crazy!
More ‘Lost’:

I did think that Sayid would try to kill Ben eventually, but that looked pretty final to me, and I was totally shocked he actually did it and it worked, and the island didn’t work its magic like it did with Michael. Very interested to see how DL and CC explain this one. It’s gonna be epic.
There’s no way Ben is dead. We have to harp on “Flashes Before Your Eyes” and Ms. Hawking’s ‘course correction.’ Desmond couldn’t buy the ring because it didn’t happen. Sayid didn’t kill Ben because it didn’t happen. Next episode, they know where Jin is on patrol, they’ll find Ben, and nurse him to health. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we see older Ben with a new scar on his chest.
The conversation that Ben and Sayid had in the Dominican Republic makes me think that Sayid shooting Ben was how it had already happened. Nothing has changed.
yeah, i guessed little Ben would bite the bullet after Sayid said he “realized his purpose”. But still so shocking since he was just a kid! And I loved Lil Ben! He humanized Big Ben for me. I just don’t know whats going to happen now. Will the Purge still take place? Is Ben’s death going to change the future or is Faraday’s theory correct that “whatever happened, happened” and nothing will change for our 2007 Losties? So many questions, another great episode!
no way in hell is ben really dead, little ben pulls through, and big ben’s relationship with sayid gets some freaky context
Great episode. Sayid and Ben are so strong and when you put them together it’s magic. Best line of the night was Sayid’s comment to Sawyer about getting a sandwich from a young Ben. “How do you think I am doing?”
Maybe this will be the first time that the island heals ‘little Ben’.
What is death on the island? I expect the island will work it’s magic and Lil’ Ben will pull through. It puts a whole new context on Sayid and Ben’s relationship. Great episode.
The preview clued me to the end, but for a while there, I thought it might turn out since Sayid witnessed the “why” behind Ben’s socialization issues, take pity, and plug Ben’s rotten pappy instead … which would have brought on all kinds of other interesting wrinkles in time.
Juliet and Jack will save young Ben!!
….and this will bring trouble to new Dharmaville!!!!
Maybe it is some intense course correction. Little Ben grew up to be terrorizing Big Ben who caused all the problems we’ve seen, and that wasn’t the Island’s plan. Perhaps since Sayid killed him, the timeline is corrected and events can proceed as the Island intended.
I was scared for the whole episode that Sayid was going to die, because we got almost his whole story including when he was a little kid. When he killed Ben I was so relieved and shocked, and didn’t give a crap that Ben could be dead. Go Sayid!
Count me in the group that thinks Ben isn’t dead. I still believe Faraday, that we can’t change what’s already happened. Ben got shot ONCE – that doesn’t mean we know he’s dead for sure.
I do think it’s interesting to think about how fate would “course correct” if he DID die, though – who would lead the Purge??
and how about d. b. farnam with his creepy glasses coming out with his truth serum on a sugar cube….oldham i think they called him
There’s got to be a similarity between Ben being shot, in almost the same place he shot Locke. Locke was still alive, maybe Ben is? It’s hard to believe the best bad guy ever, is already dead. But regardless, AMAZING episode.
