Ellen DeGeneres has emerged victorious in her ‘O, Yes I Can!’ campaign to get on the cover of Oprah Winfrey’s O magazine. On today’s Ellen, Oprah surprised DeGeneres, via satellite (watch below), and officially offered her a cover. (She also apologized, again, for someone at her office keeping DeGeneres on hold for 11 minutes when she tried to reach Winfrey.)
Ellen was genuinely breathless with anticipation, but managed to speak when Winfrey asked her what her conditions would be (besides being allowed to wear pants): "Yeah, I’ll get my attorneys on it right away, and they’ll send you something." Winfrey said she’d been following DeGeneres’ campaign and was happy to offer the happy ending because, "I believe that when you dream it and conceive it, you can have it and achieve it." That’s so true. Especially if you are a major television star with a loyal following that adores you. Hence DeGeneres’ new goal: to make the cover they share O’s best-selling issue ever. Can Ellen top First Lady Michelle Obama? We’ll see…. In the meantime, pitch your cover concepts for DeGeneres’ O shoot below.

my worst fear: oprah will spread her propaganda onto Ellen. lets hope ellen doesnt fall victim like everyone else under that O spell.
I see a dominatrix style cover, with leather bustiers and a whip. The collective intake of breath will probably lower the barametric pressue right across the continent.
What happened to the end of their conversation? You guys need to fix that clip!
I think the cover should be them with their respective dogs, since they both love them so much. Maybe they could be photographed in a dog park? Anyway, I never buy “O” magazine but, for this cover, I most certainly will!
I, too thought first of an animal related cover shoot for the two of them. Together, they could do a lot of good in an issue devoted to humane causes and relaying animal information.
Ellen and her dog? They should have a cover with Ellen and all the dogs she’s given up. I used to be a huge Ellen fan until I realized how many dogs she’s taken in and then given up. It has to be at least 3. I still like her, but I have to say….I’ve lost some respect for her.
Oprah has always done the covers solo. Sharing the cover with Michelle Obama was very special and what I considered a celebration of American history!
Putting Ellen on the cover so soon, after the first lady, deflates that moment. But, there is that fear, that if she tells Ellen, now is not the time, she will be consider anti-homosexual.
_uck you!
I believe this is remarkable that Oprah is considering Ellen for the cover. As already stated, it will depreciate the meaning of Michelle Obama on the cover.I think that people will really be convinced that oprah’s a lesbian now! it should be ellen Gail and Oprah!.lol
Oprah has done it again to her race, she manage to exclude hard working black celebs, for a promotional opportunity to show case a gay ,white woman, like she does white people on her show constantly, what is it with her and white folks, she need to focus on her own issues with her family and her race.. why not put angela basset, halle berry , or some female like areatha franklin who has made mega stardom… who is ellen except some one white suck up to, you dont see too many blacks lovin no ellen… oprah once again is showing her cabin fever
don’t be mad because your a poor black woman livin on the system what yo yo
Pam – It’s people like you that keep racism and bigotry alive and thriving. Get over yourself and take a few English classes too.
peeps, it’s a magazine cover. a piece of glossy paper that covers a bunch of less shiny pages that have some really vapid writing on them.
Good for Oprah. As a Black woman I have no problem with Ellen being on the cover. I love Ellen and Oprah and they are both exceptional role models for girls and young women.
Ellen on the Back Oprah on the Front,Ellen snatching a tiara off Oprah head
I am from Australia and I cannot believe the carry-on over a cover page. In Australia we only care about if the magazine is a good read. Ellen is wonderful
I love Ellen Degeneres as well as Oprah. I really have a crush on Degeneres and think she is such a positive roll model with her being lesbian. She deserves any and every thing she is offered. Oprah rocks as well for being the richest lady in the world.
Oprah was kind of forced to do publish Ellen because she was accused of being racist for selecting MO just because of color. But i’m afraid it will not work, her prejudiced reputation being well known
Pam…say it again…I don’t think they had enuf…
I dont think O shoulda put Ellen on the cover. IT HAD MEANING that the 1st AfrAm 1sy Lady, lawyer Michelle Robinson Obama was on the cover with the 1st AfrAm self made billionaire.
What is the pwer in having Ellen on O? Just 2 sell mags?
Honestly Ellen just wants to sell more copies & she hasnt hidden this fact.
Here we go again…black v. white, gay v. straight. Who the -f- cares? I’m just happy there’s someone on the cover of Oprah’s mag OTHER THAN Oprah herself! I don’t give a RAT’S A$$ that she’s the first (insert whatever EEOC Category here) to own her own magazine. Spread the wealth and showcase Americans of ALL colors/creeds/origins…After all…THEY’RE the ones who catapulted you to stardom in the first place. Hopefully, this is the first in a long line of covers to showcase someone OTHER than the magazine’s owner.
I want to agree with Melinda and say to Pam: When did this become a race issue? This was something Ellen set out to do, for fun and for nothing else. This isn’t a race or sexuality issue at all, this is about Ellen being able to have some fun with her fame! This whole situation has nothing to do with Angela Basset or Halle Barry, it has to do with two fun-loving people wanting to share that fun with their fans. Lighten up! Not everything is motivated by race!
Why does it seem to be human nature to take something fun and enjoyable and turn it into so much negativity? I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Michelle and Barak have discussed this over dinner while shaking their heads sadly at the reasons people are giving for their disappointment in Ellen being invited by Oprah to be on the cover of O Magazine.
Maybe we can have a more positive take on the issue.
Ellen’s “Oh yes I can!” dream to be on the cover immediately followed her achieving her previous dream of getting George Clooney on her show with her “George is mine in ‘09!” campaign.
Ellen is doing exactly what Oprah has been preaching over the years from The Law of Attraction, “whatever we think about, we bring about”. It says by allowing ourselves to dream our wildest dreams without fear that we might not be good enough or that the dreams might be unrealistic, we can decide what we will bring about in life. Isn’t this exactly what Ellen has been doing? Who would have imagined that this was a dream that she was going to achieve? I, for one, was skeptical.
I’d like to believe that this is Oprah’s salute to Ellen for not being afraid to dream her biggest dreams and put them out there for all of us to know.
It’s quite possible Oprah has decided after that after nine years of going solo, it might be the right time to share the cover and honor others who live their best life. Yes, it started with the First Lady and created a quite a sensation. But does extending an invitation to Ellen really take any of the significance away? It took someone like Michelle Obama to open the door and allow change to occur where most of us thought it would never happen.
If this is just the beginning of a long line of women (possibly a man, too?) we will see grace the cover with Oprah, doesn’t it make all of the negative comments regarding the choice in terms of race, sexual preference, being sufficiently accomplished, and the result of an eleven minute hold time extremely trite and ridiculous.
Let’s celebrate the woman who has the ability to dream a big dream and the woman who is able recognize and honor the power in that ability.
Ellen on the cover is strange and premeditated,as in planned by those white producers oprah got, if opra producers were prodominantly white ellen would not have been choosen, i think oprah made a decision years back that if she is gonna stay on top she need to keep that white audience attention, this is just another route to build her ihave a dream of changing america..who? white america really needs more change than her own people,? more self estim,? more uplifting? leave it to a person with power to ignore the real problem with ellen on that cover.no wonder she put michelle on there first..so we all would be outraged!! why not put mya angelo her greatest inpiration.? ellen only inspires gay folks, you dont even see blacks in her audience??? blacks are not inspired by no ellen.oprah wake up. until they line your golden coffin and lower it in the ground you will still be a kiss butt to white folks..they love money and not nescessarily you.. your people are the ones proud of you. ellen?
speak and write english you f_ck
Maybe some of these commentators could actually use some of these people they are commenting on as real role models.
Amen to Barbara. I totally agree.
Also, If you are going to make a statement, or try to prove a point I think that it is important that you do so in an intelligent way. Not being able to use proper English or sound like you know what you’re talking about doesn’t help make your case at all. (Jane)
Maybe, to borrow from Oprah’s own words, Ellen is looking for some good black people. Michelle “the predator” Obama is looking in the wrong direction.
I think this is WONDERFUL, and those of you that can only see the color of ones skin need some education. The world is moving on around you! Go Oprah for doing the right thing. I love ELLEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!She’s amazing!
These are celebrity figures people!!! Its not the cover of the bible! Let’s just let them have there fun! Most people that have formed there negative opinions probably don’t even read “O” magazine from cover to cover anyway!!! Take a deep breath and focus on the people that actually have the POWER to affect our lives. I know I will!
Good things keep happening to Ellen. Is it just me or is Oprah getting huge again? I heard on Face book that Ellen did not want to help the homeless. I hope this is not true. We are the people that have put Ellen and Oprah on the top. Love to hear more about Rev. Trey Noran with Real Men Love 2 Cuddle. They are right here in Denver and raising money to build a homeless Hotel. Reverend, forget Ellen ask the Major of Denver to spread the word. Sometimes star power is not worth it. Ellen is set for life and we know Oprah made more bucks on us than she knows what to do with. What a society we live in?
Both women are accomplished and deserve a round of applause for their many years of hard work, humility, and achievement- one’s sexual orientation has little to do with their success. However, I hope to see, maybe one day, a showcasing of those who have done something for the greater of mankind. Case in point: the superwoman down in Fort Hood, that took a bullet for the nation– putting her own life on the line. People must realize that these unsung hero’s are the nations best and brightest– those who really care to put others b4 there selfish needs or personal advancement. Hope to see Fort Hood hero on the cover:)
She deserves that much…
