'American Idol': Chat with your fellow readers during 'Grand Ole Opry' Night!

Filed under: American Idol and tagged:

It’s 7:59 p.m. EDT, and that means we’re all seconds away from finding out who’s getting the dreaded lead-off position and who’s getting the coveted pimp slot on tonight’s top 11 performance episode of American Idol (which features that awkwardly phrased theme of "songs popularized by members of the Grand Ole Opry.") As Kristen Baldwin and I noted in this week’s preview episode of Idolatry, the country-music theme could spell trouble for Anoop Desai and Scott MacIntyre, but then again, last season’s trip to the Dolly Patron songbook drew some great performances from singers who hadn’t really exhibited a country edge (namely, Jason Castro, Michael Johns, and Carly Smithson). Anyhow, we decided to try a little something new this week and give you a blog post where you can share your thoughts on the telecast as it unfolds. I’ll be back at 10 p.m. to share my first impressions, and then I’ll be working till the wee small hours on my full TV Watch recap. In the interim, go do your witty, wacky, Idoloonie best in the comments section below!

Why, oh why? Michael, this was your night to shine. Is that Anoop up there? What is going on?

  • Liz

    No, no, no

  • Liz

Why were they not allowed to look in the cameras at the very beginning? Are they supposed to be all serious or something? I don’t know.

  • Jen C

Was I the only one who found that kinda painful?

  • Fatima

Woah Alison sounded good in the warm up!

  • Liz

    what?

  • Fatima

Alison was amazing! Something tells me Simon will make a dumb comment…

  • Liz

What did Paula mean about Alison not being vulnerable? Alone is all about being vulnerable.

  • Fatima

My stars! I was right. Who would have thunk it.

  • Jen C

Maybe Paula meant singing ina more vulnerable way, like not always singing at full power? I’m not sure either.
Is Kris trying to be this year’s David Cook, and be the one who is not afraid to change the arrangements?

  • pgv417

normally love kris but this is putting me to sleep…

  • Liz

Jen C, I think Kris is trying to be this year’s David Archaleuta (sp?) with his squinting and his ow shucks attitude, and his cuteness

  • Jen C

Liz, maybe he thinks he can win by trying to be a combination of both! Hehe.

  • Liz

Do I sense a new group of fans called The Tender Puppy Pals for Kris?

  • Jana

    Who performed first?
