In light of the promising news that Gilmore Girls alum Rebecca Sinclair will permanently take over the writers room of 90210 this fall, an important question has emerged regarding the future of the show: Just how much should the CW continue rely on alums of Beverly Hills, 90210 to prop up the fledgling drama? We already gave an enthusiastic hello to Shannen Doherty’s infamous Brenda earlier this season (and, in fact, girlfriend may stick around for more). Jason Priestley will direct an upcoming episode. And come April, we’ll spread our arms wide for the much-anticipated return of Tori’s Spelling’s Donna Martin for a three-episode arc. Is Donna’s husband, David Silver — aka Brian Austin Green — next?
Sinclair told EW exclusively that she’s certainly open to the idea: "I would love for him to be on the show! It would be great to see them back together to see how their high school relationship has matured." And we suspect that Green might soon be available since his cult-hit on Fox, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, isn’t exactly burning down the house of Nielsen. But even if the 90210 stars were to align and we get our Donna-David reunion, Sinclair admits it could create even more challenges.
"I think the danger of bringing back the old cast is that it’ll look like a stunt," admits Sinclair, who is quick to add, however, that Spelling brings a welcome "effervescence" to the show. "People will tune in and watch. People will be like, ‘oh my gosh!’ But how does it feed into the larger picture? I fundamentally think the show should be able to stand on its own in a new world."
What do you think? Are you biding your time until Luke Perry and Tiffani Thiessen make a triumphant comeback to the zip code? Or are you blissfully satisfied with this new version of Beverly Hills that’s populated with AnnaLynne McCord and (the adorable) Tristan Wilds?

I’m hoping all of the old characters come back! They ARE 90210… this is a good version of an updated one, but history is what draws everyone to this show… I would love to see the others come back
I think that the only reason why this show is still on the air is because fans of the old 90210 (myself included) are waiting to see if the old cast turns up on the show (hooray for Tori Spelling’s return!) and causes some much needed drama, because the show is awful. I’m still waiting for Kelly and Brenda to duke it out over Dylan! That’s why I’m still watching
It’s a really interesting challenge for the producers. It does seem like a stunt when they announce that so-and-so is coming back. And when they do appear, I’m usually disappointed at how the new storylines aren’t true to the old. If you want to please old fans, you can’t butcher the past.
That said, Ms. Sinclair should know that Donna and David didn’t just have a “high school relationship.” They were also together in college and again, obviously, after college. Still, the relationship would have continued to mature and evolve so exploring that makes sense–as long as they don’t disrespect the happiness that the original series finale left us.
I would love for them to mix the cast with both old and new. Too many old characters makes the show just the original 90210 a decade (or so) later and too few makes it an entirely different show with the same name. If they got rid of Annie, I think the show would be less annoying. However, I will watch no matter what for Tristan Wilds, as I am a Wire fan through and through.
I do not, however, want BAG back. That would mean that my T:SCC will no longer be on the air and then where will I fill my Jonathan Jackson fix? The two of them on the same show, they’d be crazy to get rid of it.
The new show definitely holds up on its own but one of my favorite parts is seeing Kelly and Silver, the two characters who link the old with the new. I think showing David to complete the family would be a great treat to those who were fans of both shows.
I’ll probably tune in for Tori Spelling’s arc, but that’s pretty much it. If they would do a spin off show just involving the original characters, that would be must see tv for me.
I’d like to see him come back as part of Silver’s storyline….. That way it wouldn’t really look like a stunt, and it would help in her characterization.
if he’s smart he would turn it down… he has a great gig right now that is actually stretching his acting muscles. good for him- i hope he doesnt do it.
I only watch this show because I want to see the old cast. I’ve been pretty bummed that Kelly hasn’t been in the last few episodes.
Bring back the old schoolers! That’s the only reason I watch the show!
“I think that the only reason why this show is still on the air is because fans of the old 90210″
No not at all infact that fanbase is what the 30 and up crew, the target demo is high in the young adult market the 16 yr. olds most importantly 18-25 that’s what is keeping the show’s fans right now on a weekly basis, check it yourself. I also want to add I too am a ‘Wire’ fan but Tristan Wilds/Dixon can charm me any day, I’d gladly switch places w/ Jessica Stroup. Love Silver/Dixon as crazy as that is and Jessica Lowndes/Adrianna. Ok shortly put alumnis away or minimum.
I only watch this show for the old characters i mean when i look at the credits in the beginning and there are no old members guest starring i dont watch it… i mean really the only intresting character is silver and adriana….
I am so glad I am not alone..I just watch the Brenda episodes. The old 90210 had characters that we still care about. You can change produces/writers/directors and actors but sometimes it doesn’t matter..you can’t create chemistry.
I only watch the show for Tristian Wilds. That little boy is so cute. But I did come back to see the old 90210 people. I grew up watching them though high school, college and Kelly getting shot and having amensia. But I’m still waiting to see how all the crew will bond together. They all still have their solo episodes. I can do with less Annie. Kelly Taylor needs to give her lessons on how to look annoyed. Still waiting for the episode where Tristian character to discover his roots. He talked to his father about it and all that’s come from that was him meeting a gay cheerleader and discovering RB/Soul music. I hope they don’t drop the ball with that storyline.
