'Idolatry' (part 2): Sorry, Ricky Braddy! 'Idol Gives Back'...to Michael Sarver!

So Kristen Baldwin and I already tackled the Danny Gokey situation in part 1 of this week’s Idolatry (click here if you missed it), but unlike American Idol‘s producers, we thought it was important to spend at least a little time talking about this week’s sadly ousted contestants Ricky Braddy and Anoop (ANOOOOOOP!) Desai. Oh wait. I forgot. Ryan did make it a point on Tuesday night’s telecast to let us know that Ricky once made a living selling chicken fingers. News you can use, y’all! Anyhow, do press play below, and share your thoughts on this week in Idol in the comments section below.

    bring back anoop!

  • No to Chris Sligh

They GOTTA bring Anoop back for the wildcard. Total shoe-in…unless there are three other contestants the next two weeks who totally blow the judges away and don’t get voted through…..

I’m not exactly sure how the format will work as far as wild-card, but if it’s each judge picking one contestant from this past week to sing on WC night, here would be my prediction:
Randy – that obnoxious first chick (by the way, the fact that she essentially sat on a couch and made fun of Lakisha’s awesomeness on national television was NOT COOL by me)
    Kara – Anoop Desai
    Paula – Ricky Braddy
Simon – Tatiana del Toro (seriously)

My wife and I are split over Ricky Braddy. I thought he was the best male singer this week. My wife thought he sang nicely, but her succinct comment was “Forgettable”. That’s the problem he’s going to have to deal with if he gets put forward.

I’m not sure how the wild-card works either but I think if they do 6 guys and 6 girls for the top 12 then the next 2 weeks will have to go 2-1 girls for both Anoop and Ricky to advance.

  • No to Chris Sligh

Besides Anoop, Ricky also 100% deserves to get the WC. He really was the best singer on Tues, and this format SCREWS anyone who didn’t get any audition airtime. (Jason Castro wouldn’t have gotten so far if this was the format last year.)

  • Kimberlyn

Ricky is by far the most talented singer in those group. Danny is highly overrated and Ricky NEEDS to be in the top 12.

Kristen, I wasn’t gonna go there either, but after your “teeth-whitening” admonishment to Tatiana, I’m so happy I can. Her arms look like those of a very unfit woman in her late 50s! Bicep curls, anyone? If we’re lucky, however, we’re done with her. Also, I’m totally with you and Slezak on Danny–enough of the pimping, and he’s not even that good. Go Ricky and Anoop for wild card!

If Ricky has problems already getting media attention, its not going to look too good for him from here on out. Adam Lambert is up next. He’s likely going to overtake Gokey as the media darling this week. I’m a Gokey fan, and I’m expecting Lambchops to just blow away the competition next week. So you got Gokey Week1, Lambert Week 2, and Ricky having to look more interesting than these two should he draw the wild card. Not gonna happen.

I’ve stopped watching American Idol on television (I try to catch some of the performances online afterwards), but Idolatry remains very entertaining. I’ve agreed with everything Kristen has sad so far this season, especially on what a psychopath Danny Gokey is.
When will there be another contestant like Elliot Yamin or Melinda Doolittle? The hopes seem to be fading quickly, although I’m excited to see Megan Corkrey (if that’s her last name).

honestly my interpretation of the judges telling alexis to dirty up her image wasn’t playing the sexy card. i saw nothing wrong with her wardrobe during her performance. but what do i know, i’m just a guy. as for ricky braddy, i’m still on the fence with him. he’s got mad vocals, but there are times where it got a little too loud for me, especially those stretched out notes. bring him back to the wildcard round and maybe i’ll change my mind.

Talk about Ricky getting the shaft, 19 and AI ordered a cease and desist and immediate removal of his website TheBraddyBunch.com because they said it gave him an “unfair advantage” over the other contestants. He’s gotten NO airtime! No other contestant has had to shut down a fansite, they’re probably
doing it because his parents wore the shirts on the show. Visit joesplaceblog.com for the article and letter.

  • RickyB for Wildcard!!!

I couldn’t agree more with this Idol video… Paula SHOULD pick Ricky Braddy because she has the ear of a performer/singer. He was phenomenal Tuesday night. I watched it back a few times and he totally blows me away. Plus I’m sure if we got to know more about him, we’d like him… he’s polite and from NC (like Clay Aiken!) and has great style. My guy roommates are going to copy his light sweater over the purple shirt look.

  • MIchael

Robin…I agree that he got the shaft, but I have a feeling that they closed his site because he’s one of the ones they have already planned to put through. Anoop and Rickey are locks for wildcard spots. Randy is in love with Anoop. Paula has been promoted Ricky for a while now.
I could be wrong but that’s my theory.
