In what will hopefully be a much better musical number than the infamous Rob Lowe and Snow White 1989 opening sequence, EW has confirmed reports that Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Beyonce, Amanda Seyfried, and possibly Mamma Mia’s Dominic Cooper will indeed perform with Hugh Jackman this Sunday on the Academy Awards.
While, normally, I would have something bitchy to say about this potential hot mess, the little gay musical theater geek in me is, well, geeking out. I expect this to be glittery, Oscar producers! Don’t you disappoint me!

why is vanessa the desperate, no-talent famewh0re involved? for the 10-12 year old audience? she doesn’t really belong onstage with the other performers – except for efron, who’s only there because he’s a gold CERTIFIED 10-12 year old draw.
Peter Gabriel’s nominated song gets limited to 65 seconds and Beyonce (not nominated) “performs.” Travesty.

Now if it were just Beyonce performing with Hugh, I would not have a problem? But the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL PEOPLE? AT THE OSCARS??!?!? ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I will definitely change the channel when this portion of this program comes! I guess all the rumors of this show getting massacred are true.

Do the Oscar producers not get that people do not want to see musical numbers with artists that aren’t nominated. Give Peter Gabriel & AR Rahman the appropriate time needed for their songs, that were actually nominated. Please don’t ruin the Oscars! This is my Super Bowl!

I am definately on board for Hugh and Zac – the sexiest men alive. Zac is SO HOT. And I haven’t been a teen for a long time. But nasal, squeeky voiced Vanessa?? Blech. Beyonce, I don’t really care.
Say what you will about Zac Effron and co.– I’m not a huge fan myself– the Oscar producers are clearly trying to combat the downward slide the ratings have been on for the last several years. Since the ever-stodgy Academy refused to nominate popular faves like The Dark Knight and Wall-E in major categories, loading the show with popular stars is a good way to attract viewers who might not care otherwise. I’ve also heard scenes from many upcoming movies will be shown during the end credits, which I think is a great idea and something to look forward to.
I am so excited for Zac and Hugh! This should be amazing with Baz directing. Or so I hope. But I am definitely watching.
I beg to differ Consuelo, some of us do want to see musical numbers aside from the ones that are nominated, lets face it some of the ones nominated are not the most exciting of songs. I might actually tune in for this one. If you remember, Zac and Vanessa were in a very successful movie this year so they have every right to be at the Oscars as well.
this may makes no sense to movie buffs, but to executives at ABC (Disney’s parent company), they see a chance to bring in a younger audience with the HSM stars. the oscar’s numbers have been way down. i personally think it’s a silly idea, but if it’s well done and entertaining, it won’t bother me.
How to make the Oscars better:
Max 5 minute opening by host with no dance/music/attempts at comedy.
No film montages.
No dead person montage.
No tributes to anything.
No attempts at comedy by presenters (except for actual funny persons).
No dancing.
No singing except for best song nominees sung by original performers.
Hoping Hugh will be great. But Beyonce again?? Boring.

Honestly, this could be awesome or really horrible. Either way it should be fun to watch! And I’m with those people who like to see musical acts besides those which are nominated. It can make the show more entertaining.
I’d rather not see Beyonce’s schtick anymore. She seems to perform at EVERYTHING and I’m tired of seeing her be average everywhere.

Efron/Hudgens appeal to pre-teens. I don’t think that’s the demographic that they need to grab. They need to grab people that go see good movies, but are losing faith in the Academy because they seem to be out of touch with mainstream interests.

I am seriously tired of Beyonce. there is no escaping her. If she isn’t selling Loreal, it’s Direct TV, or cover girl. I couldn’t even watch the Presidential Inauguration without seeing her. Gimme us a break already!!
