'Twilight': If Dakota Fanning is Jane, who should be Alec?

Dakotafanningnewmoon_lWith news that Dakota Fanning will meet with New Moon director Chris Weitz next week to formally discuss her being offered the role of vampire Jane in the Twilight sequel, it’s time for us to help Weitz find his Alec, Jane’s bloodsucker brother. According to the books, Alec is a pale boy (surprise) who could be Jane’s twin. "His hair was darker, and his lips were not as full, but he was just as lovely," Stephenie Meyer writes in New Moon. Elijah Wood is a popular suggestion, since Jane and Alec are small in stature, but I doubt that the man who starred in the Lord of the Rings trilogy would want to be backburner in a Twilight sequel. Then again, if Weitz (or the director of any future Twilight sequels) wanted to go off-book and flesh out the fascinating Volturi and their guard with Meyer’s approval, I don’t think anyone would mind. (Right?) Also, what is Elijah Wood doing these days?

Assuming Wood is out, I submit High School Musical‘s Lucas Grabeel (pictured) for consideration. He might be a bit too tall to pair with Fanning, but they could always have him stand/walk in a shallow hole/trench. (Really, he’s not going to be onscreen that long for it to become a huge inconvenience.) To me, Grabeel’s face is angelic, but also blank — perfect for a character who is able to cut off all your senses and make you feel absolutely nothing. Together, he and Fanning (character gift: to bring the pain) would be appropriately off-putting. Plus, they’d look so cute together.

Who’s your pick for Alec? And are you hoping Fanning’s meeting with Weitz goes well?

For the love of all things holy, PLEASE don’t let them cast Dakota Fanning as Jane. She’s supposed to be childlike but sophisticated.
Kristen Chenowith would be a much better choice.
Of course I’d take almost ANYONE over DF. As a friend of mine said “if DF and Vanessa Hudgins make the roster, I don’t know if I can pay $8.50 to see it”.

Okay “childlike but sophisticated” seems to describe Dakota Fanning to a T. Although lately, she’s begun to lose the childlike quality. Chenoweth would fit the opposite description of “sophisticated but with childlike adorableness” (if that could be a word).

Dude Kristen Chenowith is like a hundred years old literally…Janes is supposed to be child like!

I really wish they would stick to casting unknowns rather than people like Dakota Fanning and Lucas Grabeel. I’m sorry, but neither one of them are that talented, especially Lucas. High School Musical, ’nuff said.

Dakota Fanning as Jane? Are these movie execs crazy? She is not Jane, and does not belong in any of the Twilight books or movies. YUCK! Personally I think they should stick with semi-unknow actors. Once you start throwing in Disney and famous actors, you lose the charm of all that is Twilight. There are so many wondeful, talented actors/actresses out there, please stick to the book and discription of these characters. The producers, directors, casting folks should know, we’ll come see the movies without a famous name attached to them. Keep it real, keep it close the the book, you owe Stephenie that much!

I really don’t want known actors – however I’m not opposed to Lucas Grabeel. But I agree with the friend who said no to DF & VH.

omg! dakota fanning should NOT be jane. she isn’t creepy enough

  • Emily

OMG, she would be a TERRIBLE Jane!
    Please someone else!
Vampires are supposed to be gorgeous, she isn’t even close!!

I have no problems with Dakota Fanning. In fact, I think that she would do a great job as Jane. But the dude from HSM. Please. Mandi, these are VAMPIRES. They are not supposed to be cute. Yeah they are good looking because that goes along with Stephenie Meyer’s theme, but they are killers and are threatening looking. I say no to the HSM dude.

ha i almost spewed out my coffee when i read a suggestion to cast kristen chenowith – she’s adorable and petite to be sure, but 45 if she’s a day LOL I was thinking dakota fanning would be too old now!!!

Fanning would be a GREAT Jane. If you’ve seen ANY of her recent movies, you know she can carry the part.
Plus- and most importantly I think- she has that innocent look about her that always UPS the “creepy” factor when paired with an EVIL character (like Jane). I think people should check out how she does in the movie HIDE & SEEK for an idea of her potential. She’s grown since then as an actress so… she gets my vote.
As for Alec.. No HSM alums. Please. :-s

I like them not having such well know actors. I think it makes you believe the characters more.

  • MJ

they would be perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh God I hope they get it

“Child Like” not actually a child. There’s looking young and then actually too young. Of course I’m at the point of not caring either way since I’ve almost completely sworn off the Twilight as a movie series. They botched the first and from the sound of it aren’t getting any better. Maybe I’ll rent it on a free movie Monday from Red Box.

A friend of mine just met Lucas at Sundance and she said he was quite wee – no taller than 5’5″ or 5’6″. He’d be perfect. He can be pretty scary and non-cute when necessary. Just look up his Smallville scenes on youtube if you don’t believe me.
