Would you have been popular in the 1940s and ’50s? Judge for yourself via a video from Coronet Instructional Films. The company made educational films for teenagers during the mid-20th century, and they’re now in the public domain. The clips are hilariously outdated, like my personal favorite: ”Are You Popular?” (embedded below). Some are disturbingly outdated, like ”Boys Beware,” which claimed that all homosexuals are murderous pedophiles. Coronet shorts are best viewed by gathering your most sarcastic friends and watching MST3K-style. (In fact, several videos actually were on MST3K.)

“Hmm. That’s a good note to write yourself any night!”
These are hilarious. My favorite part is how Carolyn’s mother just sits next to her husband watching him read the newspaper because, why on earth would a woman want to read a newspaper?! I also loved “Carolyn’s parents have found a proper way to repay Wally for the date.” Yeah, because brownies are the perfect substitute for sex!
I’m going to start calling it “parking” now. Park yeah!
Actually, Jimmy’d gotten a head’s up on what Carolyn would like because he’d spent the previous 14 hours combing through her garbage.
This? was hilarious! What a time capsule! Thanks for posting, Jean!
Hilarious. I need to bake some brownies tonight for those people that entertain me- I understand now that’s the proper way to behave.
Perhaps they’ll bring another couple home with them… It’s fun to watch these things with a dirty mind!
