I take it I am in the minority here. But I thought the season premiere was awful! And, I worshiped the first season. I remember the very first episode … Ellen running down the street covered in blood (me: dying to know what the hell had happened and being teased instead of gratified — amazing!) This one lacked the hook; the high drama. I honestly didn’t care who Ellen was holding hostage in the end. I didn’t care about any of the story line (s). There was nothing to drag me in. It didn’t frighten me like last time. The only time I had an emotional reaction was when they showed scenes from last season.I was unshaken, unmoved, and quite honestly, angry … just because I have very much been looking forward to the premiere (they had almost 2 years and THIS is what they came up with?). I don’t think I’ll watch any more episodes this season.
The only low point in season 1 was the awful miscasting of the Ellen character. Such a pivotal character needs a much stronger actress. She is no better this season. What a shame. I vote for the ghost and the hopefully frequent return of Ray Fiske. However we can get him will only improve the show.
Has anyone considered that maybe Ellen is looking in a mirror at the beginning of the show and talking to herself?
I don’t know what so many of you are talking about. I think Rose Byrne is great. She’s supposed to be placid rather than emotional. She conveys that very well. You see both a placid and controlled surface but you still sense the anger that is stirring in her as well. As for her weight, she was a little on the thin side. It was even a little distracting. But it does fit where her character is at this point emotionally.
I’m not sure I’m on board this season as I was last. I am tired of Hollywood’s worship of sick looking waifs. Rose’s arms and neck look really strange. She looks to be starving so fashionably it’s making me sick.
I’m also quite sick of the whole NYC ritzy money hounds balony we are all suppose to drool over. Yes, the acting is good. But I don’t care about these people and their hip rich world.
I watched the first episode of season 2 last night and I thought it was excellent. I am constantly amazed at how focused people are on the looks/body weight of some of the cast. Broaden your horizons people! Damages is an amazing show – thoroughly engrossing and challenges the boundaries of tv drama. It is such a compelling mix – a complex legal thriller and riveting murder mystery. Rose Byrne is an excellent actress. Glenn, Rose, Ted and now Timothy I think are the highlights of the show. As some people have already noted Rose’s character has evolved with the plot and she has handled the transition with aplomb. The fact that the weakness of her character drove some people mad surely was the whole point so the writers and Rose have succeeded in drawing people into her character and now she carries us with her to the next chapter….
Why oh why are there no current recaps or discussions on this fantastic show? This is not a good thing. It deserves much greater attention. Please help.
