It finally happened. The teaser moment that hooked me on the dreck that is Momma’s Boys. You know what I’m talking about: Mrs. B’s freak-out in the helicopter (embedded below). Sure, it got me screaming at Mrs. B, but by the end of the episode I ceased to care about next week’s trip to the Virgin Islands.
I was so nonplussed, in fact, that I had to find some sort of musical adrenaline kick to begin writing this post. I found it in "Untouched" by The Veronicas. Sure, the song’s a little old, but it fits nicely with this show. I mean, it could be a theme song for the moms about their sons. (Ewwwww!) More likely, it’s how some of the girls feel about the boys. So it’s now on endless repeat, with good reason.
Anyhow, Michael got lots of touching this episode, but not as much as he probably wanted, seeing how his make-out session with a holiday-clad Meghan felt more than a little staged. Hot? Sure. Realistic? Not really. Why? Didn’t it seem like the producers put markers on the floor for the couple to stand on while smooching? Beh.
Whatever. The whole holiday celebration was lame. I’m still trying to figure out why it aired AFTER the holidays and how Lorraine has a cousin so young.
Erica, our resident Penthouse Pet, got to hang out with Michael, andthat seemed to go well, but the main event was Misty and JoJo’s date.Turns out that what we saw wasn’t a date but Mrs. B’s crazy antics. Shewas so focused on not having Misty’s lips touch her son’s that sheforced the producers to take her to see the couple (via helicopter!). What I don’t understand — aside from Mrs. B’s overt racism — was what exactly she was expecting from a dating show that surrounded her son with so many beautiful women? The woman has a lot to learn — and not just about how to be open-minded. Then again, Misty could learn something, too — like how not to dress like a complete trollop, for starters. Did you see the leopard-print dress she wore onelimination night? I rest my case.
Naturally, Mrs. B had to go screw things up by talking with Maisha and Camilla. Why you gotta go and cry like that on camera, Mrs. B?! DAMN YOU for making ME cry.
I don’t know about you, but the Virgin Islands ticket ceremony made me uncomfortable. Esther didn’t play nice by making scrunchy faces at Camilla when Rob gave her a ticket. You know what Esther, you basically told her, and the world, that because she isn’t Jewish, she isn’t good enough for your son. Please join Mrs. B in the back room and throw yourselves a pity party.
So who is going to the Islands? Rob chose Camilla, Amanda (who turned him down because she wants to be with Michael), and Nikki (who?!), while Esther chose Lauren. Michael chose Erica and Meghan, while Lorraine ended up selecting Amanda (lucky her). Finally, JoJo chose Julie (who?!) and Mindy; Mrs. B, as expected, declined to hand out her ticket since no girl in the house is good enough for her son.
What did you think of this episode? And what do you make of Mrs. B’s and Esther’s antics? Will there be another huge blow-up next week? And are you excited to see who the heck Nikki and Julie are?

I can’t stop watching this show (and I’ve never watched another dating show in my life)! Mrs. B almost redeemed herself towards the end, but then show reminded us that she really doesn’t care about her son meeting anyone (why are you on this show?) by costing him a chance with any of the remaining girls. By the way, the rest of the “petite blondes” (boy there are a lot of them) sure were devastated – they thought they might actually have a chance!
And while Esther’s discomfort with girls of other races is certainly less overt than Mrs. B, I think it’s actually too easy to compare their motives based on their actions. As a Jewish woman, I understand that what Esther is afraid of is assimilation. This is the biggest threat to Judaism in America and has been primarily caused by interfaith marriages in which the children are not raised Jewish (which is not all of them, I realize). I feel that she isn’t against Rob being with non-Jewish girls because of mistrust or hate, but because she (rightfully!) fears that by marrying someone who is not Jewish, the chances are much lower that Rob will raise his children as Jews. That being said, Camilla was making a sincere attempt to learn about Jewish culture, and I think Esther should have been thrilled about that. Rob simply doesn’t have any chemistry with the one Jewish girl in the house, so give it up on Lauren!
“She was so focused on not having Misty’s lips touch her son’s that she forced the producers to take her to see the couple (via helicopter!).” I’d say the staging of this was even worse than the Santa hotness, but c’mon – who DOESN’T have a spare helicopter with a telephoto lens lying around?
I couldn’t figure out why JoJo was there since he is only 21 but they figured Mrs. B was good television. In today’s age, race and religion don’t matter that much especially with people traveling more and seeing the world.

I personally don’t care what these women think, it is their right to feel that way. I just think there are too many people in this world for anyone to bother to deal with a person that has a family with limiting views. What I don’t understand is why the mothers are so freaked out. Is there a clause in the contract that requires the boys to marry these girls at the end of the show. None of this matters! Only 1 of the 10 or so bachelor/bachelorette shows have worked and they are the least gimmicky of the dating shows. This is a joke. They should enjoy the vacation and stop giving themselves a headache about whom their sons are dating on the show, it means nothing.
Mrs. B certainly isn’t thinking of her son’s happiness; she’s only thinking of her own…..I feel very sorry for her son and should he find a bride, her too! The worst thing is that if you’re not the same color and religion as Mrs. B, she considers you a threat to her!!!
The only question I have regarding this show is whether I should listed as one of the worst shows of 2008 or 2009.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those people who is automatically against reality TV, trashy TV or trashy reality TV, but this show is just unwatchably awful.
This show is fake…what’s up with the girl being blurred out???? MY thought is this, the show is a fake to teach the mom’s a lesson!! It makes perfect sense! The girls overact, the “private” moments are staged…I mean, come on!! It’s all a set up to get the moms!
Anyone else notice Rob’s date wasn’t shown. Poor guy isn’t as good looking and doesn’t have as crazy of a mom and he gets less screen time and rejected by a girl.
The bigger question is Why? Why, would any WOMAN put herself in a situation like this? These young BOYS are not ready or even capable of entering into an adult relationship. Why do women continue to make themselves appear less intelligent, hungry, desperate, as if not having a man prevents them from being defined as WOMEN. Why in a world where we hold high paying postions, own our own homes, drive expensive cars, and vacation in different parts of the world do we continue to come back to a place where we allow others to treat us with such disrespect. Yet, the bigger question is why do we continue to DISRESPECT OURSELVES by even taking part in things like this? I just don’t get it ladies. I don’t see a damn thing in any of the young men that would be worth all this. I won’t comment on Mrs. B. I belive she has caused herself a great deal of harm and cause a tremendous amount of damage to her son in both his personal development and professional career. Love thy self ladies.
Okay everybody.. Relax. This is all very scripted. Note each episode is “directed By” (someone) Enough said about this stupidity. It’s not real, folks.
For any young lady that is interested in JoJo, my advice is to RUN! Run as fast and as far as you can! Remember, if you marry him, you marry his mother.
Normally, I wouldn’t let biggots bother me, but right now my insides are boiling. I just finished watching Momma’s Boys for the 1st and last time. I am so disgusted with this show. I will never watch it again. Ryan Seacrest, you are just as racist as the 2 Mother’s on the show. We, as African-Americans are aware of the racism that is apparent as we watch television and either never see one African-American on CBS, NBC or ABC; or when we do, there is just one African-American that y’all think that’s supposed to be the one to get us to watch the program. We know that there are bigots out there, but for you to just parade it in our faces & expect us to just sit back and watch it, is ridiculous. I really hope this show gets cancelled and the idiotic African-American women who came on the show need to have their heads examined. I don’t care how educated they say they are. I do believe the Sons really need to marry their Mother’s because that is the only ones they will approve of.
I wanted to give Esther a pass on the rwce thing, but then she pumped her fist when the white non-jewish girl was chosen. Ms. B was really only good in the presence of Misty. The dynsmic between those two would have had me hooked all season. Thankfully, I’ll never watch that channel again; back to cable.
I take that back. Ms. B. was sick and hateful. I guess I just thought she would learn and evolve during the series. Misty seemed the perfect vehicle for that. The boys are immature disasters and deserve all of the hatred and venom their mothers pour into their shallow souls. Clearly the show is not about the men anyway.
I really don’t care for this show anymore. I agree with those who say this show is racist. They only kept one black girl on there in the hopes of keeping a few African American veiwers. The sad thing is that the guys and the producers know that she won’t get picked in the end. I think I speak for most African American women when I say that this show is a joke. If they do have a season two we already know that they won’t let a black women win and that’s sad!
ok… so i am in love with this show. i know that i am not completely black, but my dad is molato and i will say that ome of the moms have problems… i dont care if i mary a purple guy and the baby comes out red!!! its who you love… so momas boys break free from your mom… honestly it is you choice/chance to do what you feel and not what your mother feels!! i honestly look to another season.. however i want to see different mothers. true love will always be something you dont expect so uuummmppphhhh i got this

Well, I do believe JoJo is gay. I , too, read the body language and watched the chemistry, or lack thereof, between the women him and the women he picked. It seems his mother is trying to prevent a catastrophe by making the acceptable range of women so narrow, he has an out for not choosing anyone. And that phony line about telling lady-callers her son is gay? Just desperate
To those who are African Americans who do not understand why anyone would air such demeaning and racial behavior. I would like to give you another opportunity to view it from another direction. I am a Caucasian mother of two children in their 20’s. I hoped I had raised them not to be racist. My daughter and her friend were appalled by Mrs. B behavior. It gave us a chance to discuss their views on mixed marriages but most importantly it helped us to truly see how people of other races face this kind of racism in their lives. It really opened up a wonderful discussion. I have never treated or witnessed anyone being treated in such a horrific manner. This episode helped open my eyes to the behavior and treatment that some people face just because of he color of their skin and it sickens me. Not that other tv shows have not touched on the subject before. I feel sorry for Mrs. B and people like her because she is missing out on the chance to meet some interesting women and their culture
I totally understand why the girls felt so hurt and angry because of Mrs. B, but that does not condone some of the girls’ apalling behavior. The way I see it is that, by fighting with her and sadistically seducing her son, these girls are just feeding into her stereotypes. There will always be people like Mrs. B, so why waste energy on her or her spawn when there are so many other beautiful fish in the sea? I’m multiethnic, by the way.
Me again, just thought I’d state the obvious: Anyone else confused by Mrs. B’s behavior? She’s Iraqi…last time I checked Iragi’s don’t consider themselves White…veheminantly so…but she’s okay with JoJo dating White women. Hmmm…
Could it be that I’m seeing double? No, that’s not Ms. B spitting hate & intolarance – it’s Ms. Esther!
Letting it all hang out… Quote: Rob, will do the right thing, he’s the decendent of two holocaust survivors, he understands the importance of tradition. Which translates to – No Niggers at the dinner table please.
How can a race of people that were so persecuted for being different even embrace HATE? Shame on you Ms. Esther.
Ms. B – well as we know “NO ONE” is good enough for her son. This is a very very unhealthy relationship. If at some later date hookers start disappearing from I-95 maybe we should give JoJo some serious consideration. And everybody knows that no one can have large boobs than mom – wonder if JoJo still ingests breast milk?
Mrs. B, you should be ashamed of yourself! It’s so obvious that you want your baby boy all for yourself. You’ve said that “No one is good enough for your son”… well, I have to say that if he wants a healthy life, he should get away from YOU as quickly as possible. You’re a disgrace to all Mothers! Just because you’ve given birth to him, doesn’t mean that you own him. He is entitled to a happy life, but it’s obvious that you’ve scared him to death all his sad life. LET HIM GO!
Don’t you have a husband of your own?
If you don’t let him go, just like a prisoner, he will leave someday and never call you again. YOU are the one that’s not good enough for your son. Shame, shame!
PS~How DARE you make your son choose between YOU and the girl he loves. I hope he’s man enough to choose her, but with his nazi style upbringing and him still not being a man, coupled with his fear of you, thanks to YOU, Mrs. B, he will probably choose you. Tsk tsk. I feel so sorry for your son.
I can’t believe I am commenting on this, but I am jewish and have a lot of jewish friends. Knowing first hand, I know a lot of people who cannot marry outside the religion. Is it wrong? Yes, but they feel that with such a small percentage being jewish, it is important to carry on the religion. I am not shocked by Esther. Ms. B, on the other hand, is disgusting.
Amy – I can study to be a Jew. I can be sponsored and attend temple services. What I can’t do is change the color of my skin. My skin color does not mean that I am a person not worthy of knowing or that I won’t be a valued addition to any family. What Ms. Esther displayed was not a desire to preserve tradition, it was outright racism. She is NO BETTER THAN Ms. B. Being a decendent of the holocaust should be a very strong reminder of just what hate and indifference make people capable of. I happen to think that Camilla is a lovely young woman (not just a black woman) which is the only thing Ms. Esther seems to acknowledge. She should not be commended or given a pass for her racist comments or behavior. Shame on her and I guess out of all the Jewish friends you have, you probably don’t have one that is of african american decent. So, just in case – let me be the 1st. Let me extend my hand in a gesture of friendship to you.
NO NO NO. AM I THE ONLY PERSON WATCHING THE SHOW?
Whether or not jewish people have a reason to want their children to marry within the religion is irrelevant in this situation. The other girl Rob was choosing between was not jewish. She doesn’t want him with a black girl period. She’s afraid and probably ashamed to come out and say it (unlike Mrs. B) but that’s definately it. Rob even asked her why she disliked the black gentile vs the white gentile & she made some BS remark about her already knowing the traditions. That would mean that either girl could convert. At first I liked her but the fact is that she’s becoming more and more like Mrs. B.
I was disgusted by mrs. B from the very beginning, but have come to realize that esther is just as bad. She says she wants her son with a jewish girl, but she only got upset when her son picked a black woman. Itdidnt bother her at all when he picked a non jewish white girl. What is up with that?
Terrible show. It’s like all the dating shows out there what makes this one different? Racism disgusting whoever loves this show is stuck in the past. This is the 21st century we are supposed to be moving out of the facade of racism. I guess not.
