The Top 5 'View' Feuds of 2008: Pick Your Favorite!

AOL TV has compiled a list/video compilation of the top 5 View feuds of the year, and, not surprisingly in this "Yes We Can" year, most of the tongue lashings centered around politics. Also not shocking? Righty Elizabeth Hasselbeck was often at the receiving end. After you’ve viewed the contenders, cast your vote for the best smackdown in the comments section (or nominate another View dust-up). I’ve embedded my favorite clip below: Whoopi asking John McCain if she should worry about being someone’s slave was both ridiculous and ingenious.

Whoopi’s slave comment was absolutely ridiculous, not ingenious.

The one that made me almost throw out my tv was a few days before the election when Lizzy the Bush-licker tried again to tie Obama to Rev. Wright. Even Sherry got into it that day! If I was in the audience Lizzy would have had to dodge my shoes!

Barbara’s “Us White folk will take care of you” comment to Whoopi and Sherri the comment that was “absolutely ridiculous”. Check Sherri’s response at the 2:25 mark.

i’m very liberal but Whoopi’s question about becoming a slave again was sooo stupid.

But, see, that’s the problem. People think it’s ridiculous because they think, “well, some things were just sooo obviously bad that of COURSE they had to be changed, and OBVIOUSLY when we talk about strict construction of the Constitution, we’re not talking about THOSE things.” But it’s not really so cut and dried. Who gets to decide what’s
so obviously bad? That’s what Whoopi was trying to get at, but, unfortunately, “The View” is really not a good format for that kind of reasoned ideological discussion.

“Do I have to worry about being a slave?”
Are you frickin’ kidding me? That is one of the most ridiculous questions I have ever heard. Yes, we’re going to return to slavery by adhering strictly to the Constitution. If John McCain had been elected, all the minorities had better watch out, Slavery is back in town!
    Give me a break.

What’s ridiculous is saying that you will only appoint justices who interpret the Constitution as originally written…the Constitution as originally written stated that a black man is worth 3/5 of a white man! Do I think that’s what McCain was saying? Of course not, but the problem with speaking in absolutes like he did is that you open yourself to “absolute” criticism…you can’t pick and choose which rulings that enhanced and/or changed the Constitution are “good” or “bad” because it’s completely subjective…and I’m not talking just Roe v. Wade because as we all saw during the Presidential race, there are still many folks out there (of all party affiliations) that still want women in a kitchen and black people on a plantation. Just be honest and say you want to overturn Roe v. Wade because of your religious beliefs…it still doesn’t fly but at least you’re not being a hypocrite.

To add…I meant to say it doesn’t “fly” in MY book but of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion :)

Somehow I get the feeling that Pop Watch is not really watching the pop. Her name spelled correctly is “Elisabeth”, not Elizabeth. Spell check would not catch that, but knowledge would. Personally I have a totally different way to address her, but I doubt that you would post that term.
I find it ironic that after paying taxes for over 34 years I lost my job, and I can barely get an interview for a job to save my life (or my house), but you can’t even get someone to proof your articles???
IMO, anytime Elisabeth gets grief, it is usually well deserved. She either needs to get a job like Kelly Ripa has, or join Fox (Faux) news. Regis & Kelly never discuss topical news of the day issues, that’s a perfect fit for her. Then she could go on Fox news and spew her inane opinions later in the day. Don’t shut her up, just move her to a different den. Hey, then everyone’s happy!

“She either needs to get a job like Kelly Ripa has, or join Fox (Faux) news.” Spoken like a truly ignorant liberal. My wife thought Fox was biased, until the riots during the GOP convention went almost unmentioned by the mass media. Over 250 arrests with 185 Felonies! Now she is a believer (But still a democrat).

The people that claim the Whoopi’s statement was offside are themselves offside. She was making the point that treating the Constitution as a static document means that people like me don’t get to be people anymore. Or go to multi-ethnic publicly funded schools. It’s a fair argument to make

people should really consider & educate themselves on why admendments & clauses were added to the constitution in the first place. the 3/5ths clause was a compromise between the slave holding states & the free states.for the purpose of representation & to increase southern strength in congress, the south wanted the House to count each of their slaves. The north, who didn’t want to allow the south to gain pro-slavery seats in the House by counting those who couldn’t vote, was against counting slaves for the purpose of determining the number of representatives to congress.the resulting compromise was to allow only 3/5ths of the slave population in each state to be counted for the purposes of representation, thereby limiting pro-slavery representation to congress.the clause was clearly an anti-slavery provision in the constitution because it provided an incentive to southern states to free slaves in order to increase it’s representation.cont…

Frederick Douglass himself affirmed that this clause was not directed at personhood but at the limitation of pro-slavery representatives from the south.
