Ryan Murphy's 'Glee' a go at Fox

Popular (and Nip/Tuck) creator Ryan Murphy is headed back to high school. Fox has ordered 13 episodes of Glee, an hour-long comedy that "centers on a Spanish teacher (Matthew Morrison) who’s tapped to coach the school’s lackluster glee club," Variety reports. "It’s a comedy, it’s a soap opera, it’s a musical," Fox president Kevin Reilly said. "It’s not a soft show. It’s got the trademark Ryan Murphy story turns and offbeat characters."

But will it have an audience? I’m in, if Murphy holds on to Jane Lynch, who, as our own Dan Snierson reported, was cast as the antagonistic coach of the school’s cheerleading squad in the pilot. Something else that would woo me: if one of those "offbeat characters" were to be played by Leslie Grossman, whose performance as Popular‘s Mary Cherry produced the fine musical moment below…
