It’s been hard to focus on anything but Britney Spears’ "comeback" this week with the release of her new album, Circus. From the absorbing MTV documentary Britney: For the Record to her kinda underwhelming Good Morning America performances, it feels like Brit’s been EVERYWHERE. Well, now she’s released the video for the title track "Circus" and, I’m pleased to report, it feels like our old gal. She’s scantily dressed. She shows her navel. She even does a chair dance, perhaps a little homage to "Stronger," one of my fave videos. And there’s an elephant (could it be the same one from her VMA commercials with Russell Brand?)! Best of all, she actually looks animated in this video and appears to be having fun. That’s something that’s been sorely lacking in her more recent live performances. I thought the vid was awesome. Her dancing seems to be getting better and better. She looks much more confident than the Womanizer video. And the GMA performances were fine, but I have high hopes for this tour. That’s when I hope she hits her stride.

Surprisingly, I like the video and song. However, is anyone ever going to point out the fact that this whole Circus theme is a complete ripoff of Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics album?

I think both “Womanizer” and “Circus” are two of the best videos I’ve seen all year. They are both vibrant and colorful and feature a gorgeous Spears dancing and gyrating and apparently still enjoying her ability to captivate the world with her navel and a few hair tosses. Her music is pure pop awesomeness and she is exciting. Her every video and performance spawns a 1000 blogs. I think her status as a music entertianment legend has long been decided and sealed.

I don’t mind her at all and I’m glad she “seem” to be doing much better: she actually show a personality on her docu YET remains roboticly fembot-like during talk show interviews and those GMA and X-factor performances but I’ll give her a break. and yes Nancy, no one, not even EW (or better yet, Michael Slezak) who love to rip her apart have point out the fact that she’s ripping Xtina’s Back to Basic circus theme left and right!

Yes, it’s true. As a Britney die hard, I can say that the circus theme was enacted by Xtina before Britney. Absolutely. But, Xtina, for all her glory and talent, has ripped alot off of Britney. Hell, she initially got ahead in the music biz by copycat-ing Britney. She even admits that’s what her handlers wanted her to do, so she could make it and really get noticed in the teen pop mega-industry. And we’re not even gonna get on the black “Toxic” catsuit and cape she donned at this year’s vmas. I bet if Britney looks in her old costume wardrobe, she’s gonna find a couple of pieces missing.

Jealous of someone who has to be babysitted by her father, lost custody of her kids, and can’t sing at all? Sorry, but I enjoy having freedom and being able to do whatever I want. Britney is a trainwreck who belongs in a mental institution since she acts like a 5 year old in a 27 year old’s body. Two kids and she insists on acting like a spoiled child? …Seems like she’ll be heading for another breakdown.

The video is decent and the dancing on point. It’s nice to see Brit being sexy and having fun again. Although not a huge fan, I hope for the best for her.
I am a much bigger fan of Christina Aguilera mostly ’cause of her vocal skills, but when I saw this vid, I thought it was amazing. She looks great, the dancing (always Brit’s strength) is great and the song is about 1000 times better than “Womanizer”. I think her live appearances will imporve once she relaxes into the groove of things again. i think she’s just got her guard up after everything that went down–she doesn’t want to garner any negative press and that’s fine with me. The vid and song deliver and that’s the important part.
i like the new video, and yes brit’s dancing is not at the level she usually dances but its going to get better with practice, the tour. and christina has riped off britney too.
This country has a very bad habit of building people up just to tear them down again. I for one am pulling for her. I am not a “fan” or a part of her target demographic but I think she will pull this off. She seems like a good person who made some bad choices and was dealing with post-partum depression. Nice to see her smile and laugh. Deal with it haters!

Better then she’s been but still not the old Britney. Still a lack of dancing and there still seems to be a disconnect with her. I’m not seeing the passion she once had. Maybe too much too soon.

Tim, your observation about her smile/laugh at the end is dead on. You can’t fake genuine happiness like that, on camera or not. The video is great and the song is better. I’ve been a big Britney fan since the beginning and I hope the new CD gets he recognition the great “Blackout” unfortunately did not. I think “Circus” could hit number 1!
I totally agree with whoever said more dancing, but this video is classic Britney, from beginning to end. I hope her record sales add up to the awesomeness that she’s creating. And I had my doubts, but this song is infectious, kind of better than womanizer…alright, better than womanizer by a lot…
Video is not bad but the song is hott! Should have been the first single instead of the crappy womanizer. I still say put 4 songs from Blackout with 5 songs from Circus and you would have one fantastic cd.
I agree she looks great and the video is fun; but is she back on track? I don’t know-I kind of think those 2 kids of hers are really the losers here and no one seems to care.
