First, there was Barbara Walters on The View this morning: "There are some people who have done this show and then for years feel they have to dump on it, maybe for their own publicity. Um, and, that not only hurts me, but I resent it. So, if the shoe fits, lady– ladies– get on with your lives."
Then (inevitably), there was this:
After the jump, my colleague Tim Stack and I convene a meeting of EW’s Team Rosie Appreciation Society to discuss the latest contretemps in what historians are even now recording as the longest slumber-party slap fight in history.
Tim Stack: Why is Rosie picking fights with a 79-year old kindly, brooch-loving newswoman?
Whitney Pastorek: Because the brooch-loving newswoman is biting the hand that fed her for a year, despite the fact that she already severed that hand and threw it out in the snow?
Tim: Well, I think the story is a lil’ more complicated than that. And, why must Rosie do webcam stuff without hair or make-up? At least run down to Duane Reade and Vidal Sassoon that situation!
Whitney: I’ll take a poorly made-up woman with a brain over those squawking biddies with their stylists any day of the week, my friend. And I do. Have you seen the way I dress?
Whitney: Anyway, I think we’re missing the point. So is Rosie just trying to drum up publicity for her upcoming sure-to-be-a-beautiful-disaster live special, or is she like this all the time and we only notice when she’s already in the news about something else?
Tim: Why would she need to drum up publicity when she has such a buzzworthy line-up of guest-stars, like…Alanis Morissette and, um, Liza Minnelli?
Whitney: Oh please, Patches, like you wouldn’t stand in line to watch whatever the hell Liza Minnelli has planned.
Tim (by the way, my nickname is Patches): Fair enough. I don’t want to make it sound like I don’t still love Rosie because I do. I love ya, Rosie! I’ll always be on her side…unless she decides to make Riding the Bus With My Sister 2: Home Perm.
Whitney: And again: Oh please, Patches, like you wouldn’t stand in line to buy that on DVD.
Tim: That’s very true—I was hoping that by speaking its name, the movie would come to fruition! You know you’re free, Andie MacDowell!
Whitney: I’m still waiting for Green Card 2: This Face Cream Doesn’t Have Enough Botox In It.
(Meeting adjourned.)

when will barbara learn that if she just ignores rosie (and star), no one will care. instead, she looks like the moron. team rosie all the way!
What is it with The View? The show seems to be a farm for fat old angry liberals. Thank God for Elizabeth.
Can’t stand Rosie, can’t stand Barbra- can we just vote both of them off the island?
Star and Rosie had the best venue in the world on the View…what do they have NOW? Not much.
Barbara is more ridiculous every day. Who would keep an idiot like Elizabeth and actually encourage her nonsense? Rosie is well out of this and she should recognize that and let it go.
You go Rosie. Love Barbara but she thinks shes gods gift to the news and everyone has to kiss that ass. Rosie don’t do that. Star needs to and Elizabeth can kiss my gay ass.
I think Rosie O’Donnell is ready for any fight. I mean look at one of these quotes: http://www.entertonement.com/clips/34581/I%27ve-Had-Lots-of-Fights
Don’t understand O’Donnell’s need to bash The View. I’m sure NBC appreciates people tuning into a rival network to see the reaction.
Controversy is great hype for a TV news type show, but not for a variety show.
Rosie… a brain? The whole fire & metal thing? Seriously…?
if you have watched any of rosie’s video blogs before you will notice that for this blog Rosie DID have a bit of makeup on and it still didn’t help. Look, I like Rosie and can do without Barbara, so can we just say this horse is glue already and move on? ! ?
Rosie was a big star – with a loved show of her own – well before Baba tapped her to join the View to increase ratings. Which she did.
Rosie did have her own personal issues with B.W. I think the wrong step here was B.W. – especially with the “Lady! get a life” comment. I’ll watch Rosie. Love Whoopi (hope her pay is big!) but can’t watch that show. Baba Wawa needs to retire. Soon.
Rosie has a brain – I have never seen evidence of it…. Rosie needs to fade away and Barbara needs to learn not to engage the insecure bully. As far as I am concerned the View died before Rosie showed up and she did nothing to revive it. Rosie is useless fluff. There is no talk show on today worth the time or energy to watch it
If it weren’t for Barbara’s stunt casting of Lisa Hasselbeck and then Rosie, Barbara would have a credible leg to stand on. She puts people on the panel just to stir peoples emotions, beliefs and frustration. Its almost like a wrestling match of rightious opinion. And lets be real.. She kept Star all throughout her becoming the diva that she became, used it for ratings and when it was over she fired her. And lets not get into the nitwit Sherri Shepard. This has become a freakshow from where it begain. Intially it was a show of intelligent women with different paths in life but now its a panel of people viewers love to hate. And it sucks more that this was done by the hand of a once reputable member of the media.. Ms. Walters.
Remember when magazines like EW dubbed Rosie “The Queen of Nice” during her talkshow days? Yeah, I always thought that was a load of crap, too.
I though this was hilarious. BW was in the wrong here. She should have just not mentioned it at all.
i think rosie should open her new show with a chatfest segment with her, star and debbie. they could just stare at each other for 30 seconds…then say, who wants to go first.
rosie is just trying to get more media for her new show. As much as I can’t stand elisabeth she has a right to her own racist lies. Sherri is an idiot. Joy is a liar too, she keeps saying she likes Elisabeth but it is clear she can not stand her. She won’t even look at her when she is talking. Also, I have seen Barbara wince when Elizabeth speaks. She can not stand her either, but she brings in the ratings.
The reason all of this animosity is coming out now is because — surprise, surprise — reporters are ASKING her about it during interviews for her new show, and she’s giving her honest answers.
I hate posts like this. They act like two people are going to have conflicting opinions about this topic, but instead both are on Team Rosie. Because both are on Team Ultra-Liberal. It gets old after awhile, media folk. Give us a dissenting opinion!!!
Listen, she was asked a question about what she thought of her time on The View, and she gave her opinion. She wasn’t bashing or speaking ill of anyone, she was saying that for her, the show was not as squeaky clean and filled with off-air comraderie the way Barbara wants everyone to believe. Why can’t she say that? I applaud her for her lack of phoniness and for just speaking her mind, instead of giving the same old carbon answers any other celebrity would give. I’m curious, Rosie speaks out the same way that Howard Stern does everyday but no one puts it on page 1 of the paper or discusses it on The View. It’s strange to me to give it so much attention. Barbara is from a different generation but I am intrigued by how little credit she gives Rosie for turning that show around, Rosie made it relevant, which it never was before. Sad that they never acknowledge that.
Nice video, Rosie…I thought that was hilarious!
Amen to that Marcus Dixon. Amen.
You hit the nail on the head Franco!
I started recording The View during the election season. I noticed that Joy will not even look at Elizabeth during Hot Topics. Behar taunts Hasslebot with stinging barbs about the Republicans. She can’t stand Elizabeth. Long before Rosie said that they don’t love, love, love each other, I had figured that out. Hopefully, my stating this aopinion about my own observations will not lead to Baba publically telling me to get a life. (Although, if I’m DVRing The View, perhaps I should…)
Baba succeeded in getting The View mentioned on all the other shows yesterday (Access, ET, late shows) Geez, maybe that’s what she was after in the first placea?!? Pretend to be mad at Rosie (for casually stating an opinion about the ladies not socialing aff set?!?( and then get all kindso fo publicity. The election’s over and there’s nothing for beef up the ratings so… make up something to resemble a controversy and GET NOTICED. Pathetic old broad.
Rosie’s response is pretty darn funny. Why should the women of the View be BFFs? Certainly those of us who tune in to Hot Topics do not do so for the commraderie. Sadly, Rosie’s variety show does look like a VERY BAD idea, but it’s a train wreck I just might need to check out…
Rosie grow up.You have a show be happy.I used to love you and never missed a show, but you are not the same person or maybe you are.Everyone is sick and tired of your bashing of the view.
The use of Eminem is what made it awesome.
TEAM ROSIE. Although she grates on my nerves sometimes, an interviewer asked her a question…the interviewee (Rosie) answered the question. Rosie was only answering a question. It is sad to watch the decline of an icon but Babs has become irrelevant. She no longer has credibility. Her initial concept for The View jumped the shark long ago. It is now nothing more than a less interesting version of Springer. I quit watching when Rosie left because of the way she was thrown under the bus (after saving their ratings).
Don’t you see, Barbara is trying to help Rosie’s show. We are the idiots who fall for it.
