In the rest of the world, the winner of the week is Barack Obama, but in the world of entertainment, the Winner of the Week is the woman who owned the letter O long before the senator from Illinois started campaigning with it. Not only did Oprah Winfrey help her candidate get elected president, she also guest-starred on 30 Rock (and got star-of-the-moment Tina Fey to return the favor on her daytime show). She landed an interview with Brad Pitt that’s sure to be a ratings-grabber when it airs on Nov. 18. She announced just this morning that she may delay her threatened retirement from daytime talk and continue producing her show after her current contract expires in 2011. And she proved she’s so powerful that the touch of her tears on a man’s shoulder can make him famous. PopWatch hereby crowns Oprah Winfrey the reigning Winner of the Week. Everybody gets a car!!!!
Can you think of anyone in entertainment who had a better week than Oprah? Let us know below. And it’s not to early to start nominating someone for next Friday’s Winner of the Week. (To see previous Winners of the Week, click here.)

“help her candidate get elected president”
gimme a break – she got pretty quiet when the race started to heat up – and for good reason – this woman is a liability in the political arena
Let’s give the president elect some credit – he got there on his own accord…
Her “unleashed” special was one of the most hideous moments on television history – self congratulatory crap that is typical Oprah – when she stated addressing politics early in the campaign ratings were trending downward – now that everyone is on an emotional high, surprise surprise here comes Oprah.
Congratulations America on these exciting new times, but don’t hang the Oprah anchor on Obama, he’s got enough to deal with….
Dude you need to relax lmao. She did help in the primaries silly, when it was looking like he wouldn’t win. She said she doesn’t take the credit and really she only helped in South Carolina I believe.
And it’s not to early to start nominating someone for next Friday’s Winner of the Week.
How about having a long talk with whom ever is supposed to proof this stuff?
It’s not TOO early….
I can’t imagine the nerves involved in just writing something about Queen O, but first things first, please. This is a woman who can’t use soap that has already been opened. I doubt she wants to be associated with poorly constructed articles about her greatness.
Let’s give the president elect some credit – he got there on his own accord…
Hahahahahhahaaaaaaaa…best line of the entire year!!! On his own…bwhahahahahaaaaa…right…he’s even laughing at that notion. If there is one thing he DID NOT do it’s get elected on his own. Money, money, money, money..enter Oprah…and more money…and more money. Please…I have a headache from laughing now.
Oprah for Supreme court justice!!! http://www.smartwomenwanted.com
Oprah!!Please. This woman only enjoys her freedoms and stardom because of veterans like John McCain and myself, also a Vietnam vet.How on earth could she back an inexperienced, never served in the military, unproven man like Obama? Our country is now in the most danger we will ever know and it is because people like Oprha don’t know there place. Why? Do the rich and famous think they know more about politics than the average guy! When truthfully all she is is a talk -show host period!!What on earth qualify s her to back Obama to the nation. Please we know we all know why,It is Race, yes Race the only reason she went with Obama is because he is Black. You most likely won’t print this but, this is the truth! And so many fell for her inexperienced point of view, with total blinders on.When all hell breaks out in the next 4 years,I will pray that John McCain comes to our aid!!!Ophra you are only-only a talk show host stay in your element!J.Wm.Boles
Too bad for her that I decided to boycott her show. Her decide to not have Sarah Palin (pre-election) shows her complete unbalanced bias. Its her show, so she can do as she pleases-but, could you have campaigned for Barack any less subtle?
@ james
Yeah its good that you served in the military but being a POW does not qualify you to be president and anyone stupid enough to use being POW as a qualification for president doesnt need to be elected. Civilians have been elected president all throughout history. Lets not act like if you dont serve in the military you are unfit for public office. And obviously Oprah affects you becuz you took the time out what I assume is your busy day (you could just be a internet loser) to leave a paragraph about her.
I may just have to cancel my subscription to EW for them giving Oprah this type of kudo.
She’s severely overrated.
Mr.Famu:You obviously have a right to your opinion.I fought in that horrible war to give you that right. However you are wrong I am far from an internet junkie,I think this computer stuff is the downfall of our civilization. When is the last time you really saw a young person reading a newspaper,or a book.Regardless of this I have to say people who believe that a celebrity like Ms.Oprah who is only-only a talk show host can back a political candidate,by the way a one sided point of view as it were.are really losing there grip on reality!People need to read as much as possible and get to know all side’s of the issue’s about each and every candidate that is running,Not just sit in front of their TV set’s and watch Oprah, and make an informed decision based on what she say’s.Why did she not let Sara Palin come on the show? Why ,indeed!Last time I checked into Oprah’s background I didn’t see that she had any kind of political education. She is only a talking head,as I said it’s his color so!
Just wanted to add that next Friday’s winner of the week should go to Todd Palin.Look at all that poor man’s been through.God! only knows what Sara’s mood has been like since the election. You have to respect a guy like him,who took great care of his kid’s and stood silently in the shadows of that un-fair,biased election.GOOOOO Todd! and good luck to you!
“She said she doesn’t take the credit”
See that is what kills me – she says that after the fact to bring attention to it – and if that is the case then why say it in the first place – North America is taken back by this woman and yes I know this is an arrogant opinion but she is the biggest hypocrite in the entertainment industry. The way people hang on her every word scares the bejezus out of me – that said the 30 Rock appearance was enjoyable if only to illustrate the point I’m making…
Jason,You are so right. A lot of people can not think for themselves so they think of this woman as some sort of super hero.Oprah is nothing but a talking head. The problem is she puts idea’s into the weak minded and after they listen to her there is no way you can change their minds because,Oprah said it is true!I have experienced this with my Fiance.Oprah is like a female version of the anti-Christ and Obama and his wife are both her minions!’Tis scary! you are right!Hold on tight my friend because we have not seen the worst to come yet.Time is quickly running out,I hope and pray daily her show get’s canceled.Peace to you Jason.
Well I can’t go as far as to say she is the “anti-Christ” – and my politics actually lean more to Obama – My point here was originally about the statement “help her candidate get elected” – (and I see that the earlier comments laughed at my remark of Obama getting there on his own accord, which I can appreciate because of course every candidate has a team, money, and a bevy of other resources at their disposal to make a run at the White House – but still give the guy some credit!)but that North American society deems Oprah as “kingmaker” and doesn’t see through the ridiculousness of a one hour show that parades around as everything to everybody when all actuality it really is just an entertainment program that should be taken with a grain of salt
