“Rose, before I go, I just want to tell you, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I." -–The 9th Doctor (Christopher Eccleston), Doctor Who. (Hear The Doctor say fantastic a lot, or just fast-forward to the quote in question at the 2:05 mark, in the clip embedded after the jump!)

Ok, now you’re just out to make me cry!
Christopher Eccleston. What a guy. Yes, David Tennant was the Doctor everyone fell hopelessly in love with, but the Ninth Doctor still has my heart. Fantastic!
It will be interesting to see who they choose to be the next doctor.
Both guys did terrific jobs and I’m sure the next guy will find his way as well. Rumor has it we may find out who number 11 is as early as the 14th!
Eccleston brought a nice, nasty edge to the Doctor that it took Tennant several episodes to find. I really like Tennant, but one has to admit that had it been anyone other than Eccleston (and Piper), the new Doctor Who might not have lasted very long.
I cried when I heard Chris Ecclestone was leaving Who – I was thrilled that they had brought the show back (having been a fan since a small child!)and worried that the TARDIS would crash and burn with a new guy at the helm. I was delighted when they announced David Tennant as I had loved him in “Casanova” (another RTD creation). Now, for all I still have a great affection for CE, DT is MY Doctor and I love him to bits. I will really miss him but am looking forward to finding out his successor (but I don’t want to know until it happens on screen!!!!)
Glad to see so many Nine fans here. Tennant’s fangirls seem to have taken over the world. People are even claiming his leaving will destroy the show, and that he’s just committed career suicide, claims which are both totally preposterous. I can’t wait for the Eleventh Doctor and Steven Moffat to take over as writer.
Fantastic. Thanks. A great way to start the morning. A reminder that each regeneration brings something different and great.
This makes me cry and smile a lot. Great to see some Doctor Who love around here! (Especially of the non 10 variety. No one ever gives 9 any credit for being, well, fantastic!!)
I loved Eccleston’s doctor he was so…fantastic (I’m sorry I just couldn’t resist).
I know that you didn’t make the video Aubry, but I’m bumming that it cut right before my favorite Who quote from that season (from The Doctor Dances, right after he says Fantastic):
R:”Look at you beaming away like you’re Father Christmas!”
D:”Who says I’m not RedBicyleWhenYouWereTwelve.”
Classic.
Oh, one of my favorite moments.
wouldn’t it be fantasitc if they could figure out a way to make Eccelston the next Doctor again.
I loved Nine! Another great quote was “Rose? Yes, Doctor? I’m coming to get you.” from Bad Wolf. And the hologram in the TARDIS when he sends her away. Those two episodes were perfection.
I had seen Eccleston in other things–I actually saw Heroes before his Doctor Who season–but his turn as the Doctor is what tipped me into a full-on crush on the man. His goofy smile, his too-close-cropped hair, his protruding ears; somehow, it all added up to crush material. I have not watched much of Tennant’s work as the Doctor, and maybe I’ll change my mind when I’ve seen the rest of his seasons, but I find it hard to believe that he’ll win me away from CE.
I loved Nine so much (and also only watched the first season of Heroes to see Christopher Eccleston’s episodes), and the quote you posted is one of my favorites- the frist time I heard it it made me cry!
“Fantastic” is a good way to describe the Ninth doctor, actually. I too am glad to see so many Nine fans.
Yay for Nine! I loved CE in the role and this moment was a tear-jerker for sure.
No doctor will be as quotable as Tom Baker’s.
Reading that quote made me realize I’m actually already nostalgic for Eccles’ Doctor! Ah well, soon I suppose I’ll be nostalgic for Tennant’s! Sorry to see him go, but that’s the way of the Doctor(s)…
To Jen: OMG – that is one of my favorite lines too. It’s what made me crush on the character of Doctor Who in the first place (regardless of who plays him). I can picture that whole scene in my head perfectly! He will always come for you. OH – and that one scene where he is trying to get back and Rose and Ricky were waiting for him and a lot of time had passed and he finally shows up and asks Rose, “How long did you wait?” And she says “Nineteen days” or something and he says “Good, for now on you always wait nineteen days!” I use that one and just put in whatever number would work for me.
Fantastic!
Thanks for the Nine quote! He’s what made me fall in love with Dr. Who in the first place!
I love the Doctor ever so much. I need a tissue now.
Also, Bananas are good.
That is all.
ah. I loves me some Nine!!! The hologram scene: “have a fantastic life.” sob sob! Thanks CE!!
Nine!! What a great Doctor CE was. The DT fandom has actually gone into overdrive now that he’s announce he’s quitting, but I’ve always felt Nine’s contribution to the gloriousness that is Doctor Who has been sorely overlooked. I wish CE could make a comeback, but failing that, he really needs to get his own show or get signed to do a huge movie soon! He is just too fantastic an actor. And so ADORABLE!
I really want to love Doctor Who, but it really scares the bejeezus out of me sometimes. Maybe my problem was that I started with the completely creepy episode “The Empty Child”. Yes, the small child in horror movie schtick is wearing a little thin nowadays, but still, is there anything eerier than a child’s voice repeating “Are you my Mummy?” over and over again?
@J Lo – The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances is still my favourite Doctor Who episodes. Soooo creepy and still so light-hearted and joyous at the end. CE dancing = love 4eva.
I don’t think that I’ve cried at anything oh Who (not counting Torchwood because I think that the last ep of series 2 is the most that I’ve ever cried in a 10 minute period) as much as I cried at that moment in time. I really like 10, but 9 was just perfect. I particularly enjoy the scary fantastic in the face of the lone Dalek. Eccleston forever!
I agree, no. 9 was just perfect in so many ways – and an unlikely Doctor when I first heard he was doing it coz Eccleston is best known for doing darker, more intense roles, but he brought such an irrepressible goofy charm to the Doctor I knew I was going to love the show. He’s right, he was fantastic!
