I know. The election is over, there’s hope in the air, and it’s time for conciliation and unification. So is it wrong that I got more than a little personal glee out of watching Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a (frequently irritatingly) vocal McCain supporter, fall in line behind president-elect Barack Obama? I do applaud her poignant story about what she told her daughter this morning, but I’m mostly glad that The View, which I usually enjoy (make fun all you want), won’t make my blood pressure skyrocket anymore…at least for now. And if you’re still feeling emotional about the events of the last 24 hours, Sherri Shepherd’s bit at the end of the clip might make you choke up a little, like my man Michael Slezak did.

At least Elizabeth took the time and effort to say something intelligent, which is much more than we can say for Joy.
Elizabeth exhibited class and grace. Joy was her usual obnoxious self, gloating and continuing to sling mud.
THE THING THAT GETS ME MOST IRRITATED ABOUT THIS ELECTION IS OBAMA WORSHIP. IF SOMEONE STANDS UP FOR McCAIN YOUD THINK HE WAS ANTI AMERICAN. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A LAND OF FREE THINKING AND FREE SPEACH AND ELIZABETH WAS VOICING HER GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO CHOSE THE POLITICIAN SHE BELIEVED IN,
…and with Chip Pickens’ post, the beginning of the “we’re so put-upon” and “we’re not even allowed to exist” tactic of the conservative movement begins. Yawn.
People are tired of the petty arguments. Elizabeth Hasselback spoke her mind and people disagreed with her. But she had the grace to acknowledge that the election is over. Last night was a great night to be an American and if you’re not moved by Sherri’s talk with her daughter, there’s something wrong with you.
Arrogance and disdain for the party out of power worked so well for the Republicans. Lets see if it works any better for the Democrats.
i watch the view everyday and i have to admit i enjoyed the political banter. elisabeth was annoying in her continued support of the republican party with america in turmoil when obviously, 61% of white america chose barack obama to lead this great nation. it is good to see she has opened her eyes to what good this decision will make for everyone.
Elizabeth was trying to make me choke on McCain. Thank The lucky stars this young witch was silenced. I love it let her eat crow. Joy is obnoxious by nature, which is why she is lovable.lol
I stumbled over this article.
Why is EW taking a political stand?
Bragging about someone “eating crow” after an election?
Since this betrays a liberal tilt to the extreme, I shall make it a point not to buy your magazine. But I will look at which companies advertise with you in order to avoid them.
For those leftists who insist on gloating, keep it up so the world can see your true colors.
I have to agree, Elizabeth was gracious in her conceding and elequent in how we should all get behind Obama now regardless of how we voted. How unfortunate that Joy was so obnoxious and arrogant in her response. That attitude will never bring people together. And I also want to agree with one other thing: why in the world is ET taking a political stance?! That bothers me most!
didn’t sherri shepherd say she thought the world was flat? how can any be bothered to listen to someone after that?
Oh please. Since when do conservatives not gloat when things go their way? See Prop 8 in CA and it’s supporters.
For all those who have had to watch helplessly for the past eight years as our country was ruined, we who had no voice and who were deemed ‘un-American’ and not ‘REAL’ Americans, for those of us who watched our popular mandate denied by nepotism; we who watched the deficit skyrocket, watched our government bully the world, lose all the unprecedented goodwill the entire world had for us after 9/1, watched the US needlessly antagonise world powers, alienate our allies, start wars and kill our sons under false pretences; watched our civil liberties erode, watched our standards of living fall. The choice made last night felt as if there were still a glimmer of hope for rationality. Still a glimmer of hope for common sense. And after all this darkness, I think we’ve earned the right to gloat a bit. The screaming troglodytes marring McCain’s very gracious concession speech shows the reaction they’d have for us were the shoe on the other foot. Esp. since we had to deal with it twice before.
Elisabeth was definitely a gracious loser…Joy could take some lessons from her. I too can appreciate the historical significance of this election even though I did not vote for Obama and I can accept that he won the election and will be President of my country. He has my best wishes and prayers for him to guide this nation.
Watched THE VIEW often, found Hasselbeck a pain, nice to know she is chastened after Obama’s win. But her inflammatory comments about Obama’s associations with Ayers and Wright were stoking the fires of hate, and of political division. As a man who grew up in supposedly liberal northern California, we too are Americans, and patriotic, and loving of our fellow citizens. But to suggest that certain places were “more American” than others and “more patriotic”–that is, not big cities, only small-town America counted in that equation, as Gov. Palin suggested–then Elizabeth Hasselbeck’s comments are beyond the pale in their divisiveness, and her comments are not mature enough to merit serious discussion. She lost gracefully on THE VIEW? So what. She should eat crow for her intense electioneering on the wrong side of the political equation.
Good for her, though. He was democratically elected and her reaction is far more refreshing than that of the “he’ll never be MY president” crowd. Some people seem to HOPE he fails, which doesn’t say much for their love of country. We’ve got a lot to fix here and it’ll make it much harder if we refuse to work with those in charge.
How unfortunate that some of you can’t seem to be gracious winners – Elizabeth is clearly out-classing you. Shame on you!
Joy was making a joke, not gloating. She’s a comedian; it’s her job.
no matter how much one may disagree with Eliabeth, the show is called THE VIEW…afterall.
I have to agre with Chip. It felt as if people that were going to vote for Obama were going to clobber those who were not. Ok, so McCain did not win. Even if he voted for Bush’es lame brained ideas, keep in mind McCain never liked the guy.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck was entitled to her opinion. I guess the only opinions that mattered were the Pro-Obama opinions? I personally was disappointed in Sherri Sheppard and anyone else who has not voted until this election. You had a voice all these years and chose not to use it. Shame on you!
I have came to dislike Joy and Sherry very much over the last few months and believe them to be rude, harsh and judgemental. Elisabeth was never my favorite, until the last few months. At least Whoopi, had some class. As for the election, we will see if Obama, can finally be a man of his word.
Elizabeth isn’t fooling anyone with her rehearsed speech because she is a sore loser. Elizabeth wears a black dress because I guess she is in “mourning”. And I can say that with authority because she has the depth of gnat. She couldn’t even bring herself to tell her child that McCain lost. Kids aren’t stupid.
What happened to the blonde conservative (can’t recall her name, I think she was from FOX)that sat in for Elizabeth? That woman was refreshing because she had class and she knew what she was talking about.
The problem is that Elizabeth was second rate reality show contestant who happened to be a rabid republican who has the maturity of a two-year old. Even Ann Coulter has more class and tact than Elizabeth. AT least Ann doesn’t screech when she speaks to people.
The Republicans showed ZERO class by booing Obama’s win during McCain’s concession speech…… yep, real classy. What a bunch of hateful people. You’ll notice ther was no booing or hissing from Obama supporters when Obama said nice things about McCain….
Elisabeth only said what is EXPECTED from someone who now has to eat crow…. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT HER SINCERITY.
Well said Elisabeth! And Joy…you’re an idiot with your stupid comments. Sherri’s comments were wonderful also. Very emotional moment.
The View consists of bleeding heart liberals and when the lone conservative voices an opinion the fat old ugly and stupid liberals make fun of her. Go to hell. I never watch Barbara Wawa or her really ugly women.
I understand that the angry people that commented below are just frustrated that their candidate lost, and rightfully so. However, why don’t you take a hint from Hasselbeck and get behind Obama. He is our new president and whether you like it or not you he will be your leader for, at least, the next four years. I hope that Obama and his administration will be able to bring you all peace and happiness. That is what life is all about now isn’t it? Try to put away your anger and rejoice that there will be a change in Washington. I, at least, hope that we can all join together and celebrate the end of George W. Bush.
Using “man” and “Michael Slezak” together in a sentence is a contradiction, unless you’re mentioning that he isn’t really one at all.
One of the better moments I’ve seen on The View. Very gracious words from Elizabeth, and was moved by what Sherri said. I think the fact the she grew up in a house where it was instilled that there were limits is probably a big reason why she didn’t use her voice to vote, as one person mentioned in the comments here. Not everyone finds their voice early on in life. Some people have to overcome the obstacles they’ve faced in their life in order to have the confidence that who they are matters. The fact that there were millions of new voters this year shows us that more and more people are trusting themselves to have a voice. That’s what was truly great about this election. I’m glad Sherri could count herself as one of them.
