Uhh….Jennifer Connelly won Best SUPPORTING Actress for “A Beautiful Mind”…and Ellen Burstyn was nominated the YEAR BEFORE for Best LEADING Actress for “Requiem”; although Connelly was good in “Mind”, many felt it was a ‘make up’ award for her not even being nominated the year before for Supporting in “Requiem”…get your facts straight before you post peeps!
Count me as firmly in the Ralph Fiennes camp for his truly creepy and evil turn in “Schindler’s List”. The other nominees were definitely nomination-worthy, and I certainly don’t have anything against Tommy Lee Jones or “The Fugitive”. DiCaprio’s performance in “Gilbert Grape” still stuns even today and was my for-sure 2nd choice. One neglected performance that year, that I really liked…(one could call it a guilty pleasure)…was Jeff Goldblum in “Jurassic Park”, the absolute stand-out performance of that movie–excluding the Velociraptors, of course.
I think Ralph Fiennes definitely deserved the Oscar in ’93. His performance was incredible. I also found a great post on Peterman’s Eye today about supporting actors that I thought I’d share with everybody:

Cheers!
Fiennes for Oscar ’09! I’ve seen Schindler’s List 5 times and all of Ralph’s other films and he is simply astounding in everything. He doesn’t just rely on his good looks, his Amon Goeth performance is the first time anyone has ever felt for a nazi. His eyes run between happy and cold in two seconds. I love this guy, Oscar please bless this consummate actor with his trophy in ’09! Both The Duchess and Th e Reader show the extent of his skill. And In Bruges too.
Why has Leonardo DiCaprio not won an Oscar yet??? The Basketball Diaries, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Aviator, The Departed– he is seriously due.
I only vote for Jones because he deserves an Oscar, the role he plays by now yes is been there, done that, but still, he deserved a win!
But so does Finnes…
Why doesn’t Tommy Lee have hair on top of his head in that pic? I assume he shaved it for a role?
I don’t think that I have ever enjoyed a performance more than Val Kilmer in Tombstone. I am surprised that He and Kirk Russel were not nominated
‘My’ choice is John Malkovich for In the Line of Fire.
