Not quite sure why I like this song so much. And the video is kinda awesome too, mostly because I love its wonderful literalism in the first half minute: we see (at numerous times) a bus bearing the name of the titular street; during the line about "a barber showing photographs," we’re shown a barber pole; while we hear about the people who "stop and say hello," we see John stopping and saying hello to Paul. And then..white horses in the countryside. Good stuff.

It has made my day to see this in PopWatch! I LOVE this video…love that The Beatles made music videos back in the 60s. The video for Rain is pretty good too.
this song just makes me happy!
Isn’t George the one riding the DARK HORSE? And was that not also the name of the company under which he later published his songs? Something like that…
This made my morning! Few things make me smile as widely as unexpected Beatles. Thanks PopWatch!

What really makes the song memorable is the piccolo trumpet at 1:11. Paul McCartney had noticed the sound while listening to a BBC radio broadcast of Bach’s second “Brandenburg Concerto.” After describing it to Beatles producer George Martin, the sound was incorporated into “Penny Lane.”
There is a version of the song that ends with a piccolo trumpet flourish.
TinaInTX,
Yep. I think that was his nickname because he was shy and a lot smarter then the rest of them. Dark Horse was also a song of his I think from All Things Must Pass, and Dark Horse records still exists today, but I do not think that his production company owns Dark Horse Comics.
