Angels & Demons
Plot: Tom Hanks is back to uncover even more quasi-biblical secrets using only his smarts and weirdly lush mane.
Looks like: When Gargoyles Attack
Verdict: Something about the Pope, maybe? Or statues? Or the mysterious “Illuminati”? We’ll have to wait for the movie to find out! Or, I guess, read the book, but who has time for that?
Gran Torino
Plot: A crusty old man (Clint Eastwood) gets on the bad side of the Chinese mob when he protects a neighbor from an assault.
Looks like: Grumpy Old Men with Guns
Verdict: Another feel-good flick from the guy who brought us Million Dollar Baby and Changeling.
Slumdog Millionaire
Plot: An Indian teen (Dev Patel) goes on his country’s version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire to win the heart of a girl.
Looks like: The Namesake meets Quiz Show
Verdict: You don’t get much more than pretty pictures from this trailer, but the latest from Trainspottingdirector Danny Boyle is a festival fave with a surprising amount ofOscar Buzz. Bonus points for 1.) The awesome title, and 2.) Casting Skins’ Patel in the lead.
So, PopWatchers, which of these three movies are you most likely to see (if any)? Weigh in below on our message board!

Each of them look pretty promising, especially “Gran Torino” (Eastwood back acting in a mixture of Dirty Harry/Unforgiven mode) and “Slumdog Millionaire” (it just looks like a thoroughly delightful movie, which we don’t get enough of these days.)
Even “Angels and Demons” doesn’t look that bad. Then again, it’s compressed into a minute and a half for the trailer, so we still don’t know if it’ll be a snoozefest like “The Da Vinci Code.”
Slumdog Millionaire and Gran Torino both look great.
Yeah, I’m surprised. Gran Torino sounded blah but the trailer was excellent. Slumdog Millionaire looks like fun. I’ll skip Angels & Demons – the book was almost too gruesome to read, never mind watching it.
so excited to see dev patel in a new movie. he was so much fun on skins!
angels and demons looked good…hope its as good as the book, well better actually.
in the trailer, where it says ILLUMINATI (after 50 secs or so) theres a secret message which brings you to the website:
altarsofscience.com
and shows the picture of a bomb underground set to go off on its release date… pretty cool
I am really looking forward to Slumdog Millionaire and I will see Angels and Demons for A. Ewan McGregor and B. Tom Hanks’ awesome hair. Sorry, but I think that Gran Tarino looks AWFUL. Clint Eastwood being all squinty and waving a gun around. That’s original.
no offense but at 78 years old Clint Eastwood still can kick some ass and scare the crap out of me. I think Gran Torino looks awesome and I hope its good enough for Clint to finally win a acting Oscar. As for Angels & Demons, doesn’t look so hot but will still pull in a couple hundred million due to people reading the book
CAN’T WAIT for Angels and Demons. The book was vastly superior to the Da Vinci code but tragically overlooked, since it didn’t have sexy Jesus.
I’ll be watching all 3.
I love Dan Brown’s books .. but wasn’t overly impressed with the movie version of “The Da Vinci Code” .. thus I am just not sure about “Angels and Demons.”
