Report: I'm gonna see the 'Noah's Arc' movie

Noahsark_lSaturday night, after I dealt with the guilt of dragging three friends to see Nights in Rodanthe (I second everything in Lisa Schwarzbaum’s review), I returned home to my DVR/life partner and watched what it’d taped: The Penn State-Illinois football game (I actually crossed the street on the walk to my apartment to avoid being spoiled by a woman wearing a No. 31 PSU jersey — who am I?) and a Noah’s Arc marathon on Logo.

I’d never watched Noah’s Arc before, but, because I’m a binge viewer, I decided to give it a try since Logo was showing all eight episodes of season 2. At first, I thought this comedy about four black gay male friends living and loving in West Hollywood was — how did I put it in a 2:10 a.m. text to a friend? — the worst show ever. (This was, of course, followed by the 2:31 a.m. text: What. Is. Noah. Wearing??) But soon enough, I understood what EW’s Nicholas Fonseca meant when he referred to the series as "atrociously written yet oddly watchable." I wanted to know whether Alex (Rodney Chester, with a hint of Bernie Mac) would prove that Trey’s straight friend Guy was trying to steal Trey away. Whether promiscuous Ricky (Christian Vincent) would make a relationship work with Junito (Wilson Cruz). Whether Daddy Chance (Doug Spearman) would make nice with Eddie’s daughter, Kenya. And whether Noah (Darryl Stephens) would get back together with Wade (Jensen Atwood).

At the end of the marathon, I had a vision of me seeing the movie Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom, which opens in select cities Oct. 24. I’m not the only one looking forward to Noah’s and Wade’s drama-filled wedding weekend… Am I?

    shame on you!
    noah’s arc is pure crap!
bad writing, bad acting, awful art direction… it always feels like students in their first year studying TV!

Never heard of Noah’s Arc, but go Penn State!!!!

  • Michelle

You TAPED the Penn State game? I watched that baby live! BTW No. 31 used to be Paul Posluzny, but now it’s Mike Zordich. Go Lions!

Noah’s Arc is total garbage with some of the worst writing and acting on television. But I’m not going to lie, I have been sucked into the marathons myself and it’s not pretty. I might go see the movie but I certainly won’t tell anybody!

Yay! PopWatch is getting into Noah’s Arc!
I love the show, but as you and Nicholas said it does have it’s problems. What makes the show, along with others, are the stories it tells that no one out there are telling.
So, yes, I’m seeing the movie! I just have to figure out when it’s coming to Dallas… :(

Yeah, it’s totally crap but so juicy with drama that I can’t help but watch it. Don’t know why Logo cancelled it. I’m definitely going to watch it if it comes to my city. Too bad there is no friend who would ever go watch a movie about gay folks with me.

Noah’s Arc is a cute show, and I will miss it. I will definitely see the movie. The acting and writing are nothing stellar, but this show is more than the sum of its parts. As Mandi hinted, you definitely care about the characters. This is the first and only show to ever feature a gaggle of gay, black men, so it is a standout if for no other reason than that. Definitely give it a shot.

You watched A LOT of crap that Saturday!

My ex’s love for “Noah’s Arc” played a big role in the demise of our relationship. Okay, maybe that’s dramatic, but it was beyond me how someone so anti-TV could get sucked into that show. I can’t comment on the writing because I couldn’t watch more than 2 minutes due to the horrific acting.

Y’all just hatin. Noah is a good show. LOGO made a big mistake.

OMG. Mandi is a Penn Stater? We obviously were not there at the same time or else the universe would have made us meet like two magnets. Did she go to the G Man? or have Long Island Iced Teas at the Cafe?

Yeah Illinois v. Penn State! even if it was a sad game… I take it you’re a Penn State fan. this is sad. but yeah for pimping the Big Ten!

Award for Worse Writing of any show on tv. The overacting is way up there too. I couldn’t get past the third episode. It’s definately no black QAF.

  • MoroccoMole

Unfortunately, the sublimely sexy Tre barely appears in the movie. Boo!

OK, I know the show is silly, but it’s like eating cheetos: they’re not nutritious, but fun to eat once in a while. If you’ve enjoyed season 2, you really need to go back and watch from the beginning to find out how noah & wade got together. Noah’s outfits are outrageous, but that’s why they’re fun. Are black gay men in LA really like these characters? I have no idea… I’m a straight white chick from middle America. But these characters have heart, and they put themselves out there (OK, really OUT there) in search for true love, not just a quick roll in the hay. I wouldn’t spend $10 to see the movie, but I’ll be sure to watch in when it comes to cable.
