Definitely knock movie and mini-series awards down to just the Best Production in each category — do the rest at the other ceremony, along with Guest Performers.
Also, the writers and directors can receive their recognitions at that ceremony. Not everybody is a geek for the off-camera talent; the general audience wants to see actors, actors, and more actors.
Stop marching a frickin’ ARMY down to the stage. Just send the person who’s going to speak. Get the presenters out to their stage spots more quickly as well.
Ultimately, the decision has to be made as to whether this is for an audience at home or for an audience of those who work in the industry.

THE CATEGORIES! The best writing is given to the single episode that was submitted. So when they say “30 Rock, in episode #29″ — its awkward. Why not judge the entire series? Also the categories that read “Best supporting actress who appeared in one episode for thirty minutes” are off-putting.

I’d replace the terrible, unfunny hosts with the very funny Ellen DeGeneres.

    GET BETTER NOMINEES…BETTER HOSTS

Stop with the Bush bashing and political commentary. No one wants to hear their opinions as you can tell by the low ratings. I don’t care if you’re a dem or repub. no one cares what you think!!

I think all award shows should go to online format. Clearly less people tune in every year to not just the Emmys, but the Oscars as well. Put it online and only give out the awards we care about: Best Actor/Actress categories and Best of show. Cut out needless banter, (See the hosts) and hire writers who are actually funny (See Tina Fey and/or a Daily Show staffer).

Frankly, the only way for me to take the Emmy’s seriously is if they judge more than one episode of a show. How can someone really take a show seriously when multiple TV shows require much more narrative drive that one episode including such complicated shows as Lost etc… Serials are so old school.

I wouldn’t telecast the “miniseries or made-for-TV movie” categories. I’m an avid TV-watcher and I never watch those. I don’t even know they existed half the time when I watch the award shows! Taking these out would make the telecast shorter so there can be room for all of the “bits” everyone said they lost out on because the hosts took too long, and more time to show clips from the shows everyone actually watches.

    One word: CONAN

The winners continue to be from unpopular shows – not by any fault of those actors who deserve their moment in the sun. Instead of retrospectives on old shows (i.e. Laugh In), recap the year in televion – talk about the dramatic TV moments that made people gasp, the breaking news that had us all tuning in, the best reality TV quotes from the past year. Between awards, use the Emmy’s as a two-hour TV yearbook from the past year to satisfy all of us who only tuned in if for no other reason then the hope that Michael Emerson finaly get the Emmy’s he deserves! If nothing else, at least show a clips of the popular shows!

Nominate and pick deserving shows. Then I’ll watch.

Make Ellen D. the host again.
And I get tired of seeing the same folks win year after year.

  • emily

nominate bones for a few emmy’s. then i’d watch them.

  • Raven_Moon

Get hosts who are actually entertaining like Conan, Ellen or maybe Stewart & Cobert together.
