I’m not a huge Rilo Kiley or Postal Service fan, but as far as I’m concerned, alt-rock thrush Jenny Lewis can do no wrong. Her new solo disc, Acid Tongue, doesn’t drop until Sept. 23, but right now, you can hear the whole thing streaming on her MySpace page. Like her Rabbit Fur Coat (2006), it’s a roots-tinged tour of the backroads of American spirituality, exploring sex and murder, faith and doubt, along with the able support of some famous guests. And like Rabbit Fur Coat, it’ll probably get stuck for months on an endlessly repeating loop in my iPod. I heard this for the first time the other day on KCRW…great song. I’m looking forward to downloading it. Hardly recognized Ben Gibbard in the video under all that facial hair, though!
I’m not a huge Rilo Kiley fan either, but I have all their albums and enjoy listening to them. I also find it interesting how you can here Ms. Lewis’ voice get better and better on each album, although I must admit, I prefer her vocals on their first record the most; they’re just more fitting. The progression of her voice, though, definitely fits this song, I think. It’s great. It has a nice folky quality to it.
