'90210': Schoolyard sex too much for TV's 'family hour'?

Am I the only one who was aghast at seeing, just four minutes into last night’s premiere of 90210, two teens having oral sex in Read the full post.

I’m a fan of the original (still watch re-runs) and wasn’t planning on watching just because I feared they would turn the remake into a sexed out, trashy show..(thinking the OC) Now after reading all this I REALLY have no desire to get caught up in that crap. My time is too precious to be wasted that way.

You aren’t being a prude. Very disappointing debut. The producers are trying way too hard to be controversial, and all they are is pathetic. The blow job was ridiculous and gratuitous, and the rest of the premiere was recycled storylines from other, better shows like The O.C. Too bad Shenae Grimes left Degrassi to be on this. I hope she has a chance to come back.

Too bad 90210 couldn’t take a lesson from “The secret life of the american teen” a show that portrays high school sex AND ITS CONSEQUENCES. Finding the gratuitous sex scene inapropriate isn’t puritanical its sensible.

there was nothing especially gratuitous about the scene. It was brief, not graphic whatsoever, and fellatio does happen people. Every day, all the time, everywhere. Deal with it.

Very inappropriate! We were not happy to see the show start out that way. What a huge dissapointment to begin a “family hour” like that. And no, not good to be watching with your teen during this.

Sadly this is the state of teenagers today. Having worked at night clubs that have 18+ nights you’d be suprised at what goes on. *****Most of your daughters are doing exactly what that girl was doing in the opening scene and worse.***** It’s time to wake up parents, you’re children aren’t as innocent as you would love to believe.

@Kathleen – if you missed it on Tuesday, I think it’s on again tonight (Thursday).

If these kids are 15, how are they driving to school? Completely inappropriate for the time slot, but tame compared to TV in most of the world.

Did anyone actually like the show? I saw 20 minutes and had to turn it off. In those 20 minutes there were about 5 cheesy overplayed plot lines that I could spot a mile away. And talking with my mother, sister, and best friend, none of them liked it either.

Althought this might be something that teenagers are doing and be a popular thing, that doesn’t make it right! Having it portrayed on TV at 8pm where many kids are going to see it, (and parents too being all nostalgic) only makes kids think, “see, it is something that is done by most kids and must be okay, it’s on TV”
I was only watching it with my husband, thankfully, but even still “I” don’t feel comfortable with that being portrayed on TV. Put that stuff in cable movies or something, not on regular TV at 8pm!

I still don’t understand why so much people are more aghast by suggested ‘sex scenes’ than by violent scenes. Torture, gratuitous violence, blood scenes (so common in shows like CSIs, Criminal Minds,…) are less shocking for you than supposed oral sex? Come on, don’t be so prude. (An advice: don’t watch ‘Skins’, you could be more than aghast!)

Yes, other shows have violence, and I’m aware of that…that’s why I don’t watch most of them!! I was wanting to watch 90210, thinking it might be like the way it was when I was younger. I thought it would have fresh faces and new topics/plots, but was not anticipating a BJ thrown in my face!

I agree, it was a bit much.
Kind of like trying too hard.

I think we all need to remember this hour alot of small children are still watching tv as my granddaughter was. She is only 7 yrs. old and had been very excited about this show due to all the previews. I did not see this. I only just saw the inappropriatnas on this page and will certainly let her mom know about it. I think it should be on at a much later time slot or be much tamer for our childer. It has nothing to do with being a PRUDE!

I agree with those who say that this type of thing is totally offensive and over-the-line for fifteen-year-olds (for that matter, I have no interest in watching adults do it either). To those who say get with the times, if these trashy scenes are so hip and contemporary, how come they are SOOOOOOO archaically and outrageously sexist, i.e., always girl-on-boy? Fine thing we’re teaching our girls–forget your own sensitivity/needs/self-respect, honey, you’re nothing but a sex tool for guys to use/abuse!
