Pink's new 'So What' video

Pinksowhat_lPink still rocks. While (mostly) lacking the painfully funny anti-starlet satire of “Stupid Girls,” the new video for her single “So What” takes another well-deserved jab at Jessica Simpson (a waiter gives Pink’s table to Jess). But she’s not only taking on other celebs: This time she’s making fun of her own split with Motocross legend Carey Hart, or at least the break-up histrionics the tabloids demand. In fits of post-conjugal madness, Pink rides a lawnmower down a freeway, cuts down a tree with “Alecia + Carey” carved into it (Alecia is Pink’s real name), dances nude on a red carpet to Jacko’s Thriller choreography (I can’t believe nobody’s done this for real…yet), and finally throws herself into an apocalyptic pillow fight. Hart’s subdued appearance suggests that he and the punk diva are handling their real-life split with more grace than Pink’s video alter ego would suggest. Pink is that most rare of Hollywood gems: a pop star with self-awareness!

What do you think of the single? And are you psyched for Pink’s return?

Yeah…so what about sums it up. She’s riding the “I hate Carey” wave longer than Alanis did the “I hate Dave” wave.

their chemistry together is pretty fantastic. i wonder what happened.

  • Fletch

I’m guessing he got tired of dating an obnoxious, foul-mouthed, skanky she-male.
His ex was much nicer, cuter, and cleaner.

vacant you no night usa yes

I LUV Pink! I’d be sick of all the self-referential mockery if she didnt make great pop songs as well – which she does brilliantly – so she can do whatever she likes, as far s I’m concerned.

  • Snarf

Great song, good on her for having the sense of humour to poke fun at the whole tabloid/celebutard subculture.

  • Fletch

In all fairness, I did like the concept/execution of “Stupid Girl”. Pink personally is just a little rough for my taste.

Pink is one of the most underrated pop musicians and has been for years. (How “Who Knew” wasn’t even nominated for a Grammy, I’ll never know!) I didn’t like her new single at first. But I fell in love with it when I watched the video. Not only is the song amazing and yes, self-aware, and it’s also real and human. She’s saying “So what” about her divorce like a lot of celebs do after something bad happens, but her actions definitely show how not fine she really is. I love that she’s hilarious and viscerally honest at the same time. Hopefully people in the U.S. will finally take notice of her incredible talent.

    K-
I totally agree with you. Can’t wait for the new album!

  • LK

I love that bad ass girl. The video is hilarious, and at the same time, awwww! I just want to hug her. Except she’d probaby kick my ass.

  • kana

i love this song and video! Pink is so underrated. i love her voice, have for years.

  • Nancy

Haven’t seen the video or heard the song, but I don’t care. Pink is on my “I’ll always buy their album” list. She rawks in every way. Love her.

Finally, while the rest of the pop world thinks we need a dozen singing Paris Hiltons, Pink realizes what we really want and need is Joan Jett. Sweet.

  • coco

I needed this song four months ago!
I absolutely love PINK, she has a lot of talent and her music is amazing. She’s just different and for some reason Americans hate on different.
    Loved the JSimpson comment!

  • mgm

Hubby and I saw her when she opened for Justin Timberlake and we were blown away! She has one of the best voices! Love her!

  • Capt. Ahab

    Methinks she smells like fish…

Fletch did you even watch the video? It’s obvious that they just parted ways as true friends. Great video LOVE pink!

  • 2Cents

I loved it. Without a doubt, Pink is one of the few white girls with a great voice. With her wicked sense of humor, I always wonder why she isnt a bigger star. She is way better than Brit, Jess, LeLe, Kiki, or whatever ishits is hot right now.

  • Fletch

No, I didn’t watch it. No matter how they parted, it seems like she would be better served to take the matter private. It’s been awhile now, in which time we’ve gotten (at least) one song (“Who Knew”) and now this.

  • SD

Fletch – either watch the video before you post comments on it or get a life

  • Fletch

Do you see the picture? Does the tree not say “Alecia + Carey”? Have they not been broken up for quite some time? Those questions answered, SD, leads me to believe that she is milking the Carey Hart breakup. If that wasn’t the case, there is no reason to mention it at all.
If you are taking the time to comment on my comment, maybe it is YOU that need a life, SD. As if you taking the time to attack me isn’t TEN-THOUSAND times more pathetic or something…

  • Tyre

Glad she’s back? Where did she go? I love Pink. Always have, always will. Dear Mr. President should’ve been a single…:)

  • Fletch imitating SD

Oooh, oooh, Fletch doesn’t like something! Oooh, oooh, Fletch disagrees with me! That must mean he is a pathetic loser, because anyone with a countering opinion MUST not have a life!

  • Huh?

Why does the article refer to Carey Hart as a “motocross legend”? Can anyone name one race, much less title, he ever won – in either motocross or supercross? He was the first person to attempt a backflip in freestyle competition. Guys get into freestyle because they cannot race. That’s not motocross – that like Evel Knievel. That’s what he’s famous for. Legend my ass…

  • djm

Love her, love the video (the song is just ok). I can’t wait for her new cd – I have em all and will buy it the day it’s released. I loved “Who Knew” as well – and I am not convinced it was about her ex.

  • Coyote

Anyone who comments on a movie, book, or music video but hasn’t taken the time to view/read it IS an idiot.
Watch the video or go away.

  • BJohnson

I think the video just says So What to all the tabloids. Look here’s my ex and I, we’ve gone through it already, why still talk about it. Remember, she probably did this right when the divorce was going through and she decided to lay the track on the album, genius, because most of the negative people towards Pink probably wouldn’t have paid attention to her song if it wasn’t about her divorce. Those marketing people know what they’re doing. I love the video, best scene is her destroying the newlywed’s car because I’m sure people who are going through the divorce seem like that’s all that’s going on around them, people getting married and happy. I was a fan when she was an R&B star and I’ll get the new album.

  • thad

Hot hot hot, the anti-Britney is back and I love it

  • Lauren

Always love Pink. Along with Barenaked Ladies she’s the only other artist I liked during high school that I still listen to. Can’t wait for this album!

  • Fletch

Okay, smartass, I watched it. It didn’t make much of a difference. Still looks like she is focusing too much on her breakup with Carey Hart. But thanks for taking the time. I’m sure everyone thinks you are much cooler now taking your shot at me.
