Name the best crowd participation concert song

I went to see Neil Diamond at Madison Square Garden Friday night, and it could be the most fun I’ve ever had at a concert. Though the squeals I let out at the start of "I Am… I Said" and "Love on the Rocks" were involuntary, I could’ve probably controlled myself during "Sweet Caroline" but didn’t. The entire arena was on its feet, singing along ("So good! So good! So good!") and marveling at the cojones Diamond has to do that song mid-show. Even if you think "Sweet Caroline" is overdone, I defy you to watch the clip below, and not want to be in that crowd.

Is it the best crowd participation concert song ever? If not, what tops it?

    That’s easy.
    1. All Good People at any given Yes concert
    2. Gimme Some Lovin’ at a Steve Winwood concert when all the house lights are brought up. Now THAT ROCKS!

I saw Neil in Chicago last month and I really only went to sing along for ‘Sweet Caroline’ and it was everything I hoped for and more. There were like 3 encores for the song. It was the best.
The only other song I think might be better would be “Hey Jude” with Paul McCartney.

I have to vote for Cheap Tricks “I Want You To Want Me.” Its impossible not scream ‘cry, cry, cry’ during the chorus.

    Mony, Mony
(only for the naughty shout back lyrics that aren’t in the original song)

Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” or “Living on a Prayer.” I defy anyone to go to a concert and not scream your lungs out at those two songs!

Duh, “We Will Rock You,” by Queen! Also, many, many Dave Matthews Band songs. You know, I love that you can sing along as much as you want these days; I remember when the audience had to be invited, like at a John Denver outdoor show I attended in about 1975. Ahhh….he’d always open up “Take Me Home, Country Road.” !!

Don’t Stop Believing by Journey. By the end absolutely everyone is on their feet singing and you forget (for a moment) that Steve Perry is not there…

Let’s see 2 concerts come to mind:
    1) Pearl Jam – Sit in the Ten Club section and everyone knows the lyrics to every song. Of course Betterman and Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town get the most participation.
    2) Dashboard Confessional – Chris Carraba established his career in smaller clubs where everyone sings every word as loud as he does.

“Not the Same” by Ben Folds. He teaches you the choral part at the end and actually conducts you singing it!

The Thunder Rolls or Friends In Low Places… Garth Brooks

  • Sheila

Rolling Stones, 1989 — “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” I was 16, and a whole stadium singing this song (which until then I’d never heard) gave me chills.

I can’t stand Garth Brooks, but Friends In Low Places was the only crowd song that came to my mind.

  • Carol circa1949

almost all of Neil Diamond’s early hits are the best. pack up the babies and grab the old ladies, cuz everyone goes to Brother Love’s show!!

Any time I see Pearl Jam I know most of the concert is going to be a sing-along. It’s intense!

“40” by U2….glad they brought it back on the last tour
