A couple nights ago, I heard Stevie B’s "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)" and remembered wearing out my cassingle in high school. I don’t think the ballad, embedded below, is as good as I thought it was. (I also don’t think I ever knew that he had a dance track called "Party Your Body," embedded after the jump.)
So what ballads have you second-guessed in recent years? (If your jury was hung, name the tune and I’m sure someone will give you a verdict.) I just did a sound-check on Babyface’s "When Can I See You," the song I listened to on repeat for eight hours the night I wrote a college history paper titled "Medieval and Renaissance European Women (and the Men Who Loved Them)" — A-! — and I deem it worthy.

True – Spandau Ballet (actually that’s not quite accurate as I thought it was overrated in ‘83 and sounds even worse now – just sappy)
You have to embrace the cheesiness (?!) of Spandau Ballet!! I personaly love ballads while I’m driving with my sister. We sing badly the whole way!
Sheriff, “When I’m WIth You”. Seriously, this song follows the rock ballad formula *too* perfectly.
“Wind Beneath My Wings”- I watched Beaches for the first time several years ago, and I remember thinking how beautiful and perfect this song was. now, I still love the movie, but the song’s definitely lost some of its charm.
I think almost anything by Celine Dion counts. haha.
One of my favorite ballads growing up was “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You” by Glenn Mederios. As I listen to it today, though, I have to wonder what I was thinking…
Air Supply “All Out of Love”
enough said.
Oh Mandi – I have a whole box of cassingles from the high school days. You and Slezak would get a kick out of some of them! Good times
When I was a kid, I loved “The Greatest Love Of All”. Now, not so much.
In most cases, if I like a song once, I like it for life. However, when I was a kid in the ’70s, I convinced myself that I liked Franki Valli’s “My Eyes Adored You”. Why, oh why???
Lost in Your Eyes by Debbie Gibson. I had the 45 and overplayed that darned song. In second place: Please Don’t Go Girl by NKOTB. I’m embarassed for myself right now. LOL
When I See You Smile by Bad English. Back in the day I was sure it was going to be my wedding song – when the day finally came it was no where on the playlist.
Right Here Waiting for You – Richard Marx. Thought it was the most romantic song ever at the age of 15. Now it’s hard for me to get past the mullet or past any of his other cheesy songs.
“Almost Paradise” from the Footloose soundtrack. I danced to this song with my crush at the 8th grade graduation dance! (SO long ago)!! I listened to it and the soundtrack over and over again! Now it sounds like meh – very bland pop music!
more than words – extreme
be with you – mr. big
i’ll be – edwin mcain
When I was a kid I thought “Right Here Waiting For You” by Richard Marx was beautiful. Now, not as much. Although, as cheesy as “Everything I Do (I Do It For You)” by Bryan Adams is, I still enjoy it.
there aren’t many tags out there for ‘cassingle’. it’s a great word, a great concept and i reckon it’ll make a comeback.
