I don’t speak Italian, but I’m hooked on Capri, an Italian soap currently in its second season. I don’t really understand all the details of what’s going on — something about the romantic life of a woman (played by Gabriella Pession, shown in the excerpt embedded above) who runs a restaurant on the resort isle of the title — but when you have the sparkling blue water and the pretty, pretty people, the language barrier becomes irrelevant. My neighbors, who pay for the premium Italian channel RAI, are watching the current season, but reruns of the first season are airing for free every weeknight on WMBC, a station available here in the tri-state area and perhaps elsewhere. Since I’m not traveling anywhere this summer, Capri is my vacation.
Which pop cultural escapes are on your Must List this week? List up to three of your current faves in movies/TV/music/books/games/online. Please include your e-mail address, in case we choose your submission for the magazine. Deadline is Wednesday, August 6, at 10 a.m. ET.

The Closer, Project Runway, Katy Perry’s “Hot ‘N Cold.” I’d also continue to pimp for The Dark Knight, but methinks that’s in its own separate category of Must-ness.
1) So You Think You Can Dance–I’ll miss Chelsie and Mark, but I’m psyched for Twitch, Joshua, Courtney and especially Katee. So excited to see what the choreographers’ll come up with for the final performance night.
2) Breaking Dawn. Yeah, yeah, I jumped on the bandwagon, but I’m enjoying the ride.
3) “Rock Me Sexy Jesus” from Hamlet 2. I saw a preview screening last week and it was hilarious! Theatre geeks rule!
My current three pop culture faves are:
1). Californicaton Season 1 on DVD – Maybe Fox Mulder’s porn fetish should’ve tippped us off, but Duchovny kills in this hilariously raunchy comedy from Showtime. So glad I picked up the Season 1 set to prepare me for Season 2.
2). MovieRetriever.com – the world’s hugest movie review guide (honestly, you could club someone to death with the book) is now online. Spending way too much time bitching about their reviews for 1941 and Let it Ride.
3). Paper Planes by MIA – Or as I call it “that song from the Pineapple Express trailer.” I know I’m ten hours late for the prom on this one, but it’s my new soundtrack for navigating the rows of cubicles at work.
I am watching ‘ Lalola ‘ from Argentina but it is being air in a Mexican channel Azteca 7. It is SO good. It is about a guy that was a playboy until he mess with the wrong woman and she did a spell on him and turn him into a woman. Now as a woman he is learning how to cope. It is laugh out loud type of soap. AND I am also watching a telenovela from Argentina call ‘ Vidas Robadas ‘. It is about the trafficing of humans … every every intersting. Excellent acting and writing. I guess I am hook on Argentina soaps sooo that would be my vacation place if I could go.
1. The Wackness – it was a great film, I am happy that I caught it! Set in 1994 – one of the best soundtracks!
2. Breaking Dawn – bought the book at midnight on Friday, started reading it Saturday at 9a was finished on Sunday at 1p. Great stuff!
3. Diary of a Call Girl – caught up on the last two episodes “on demand”. I will be sad when this show is over!
Neil Patrick Harris. After watching Dr Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog and that hilarious Old Spice commercial, I love him even more than before. I didn’t know that was even possible!
1. breaking dawn
2. sisterhood of the traveling pants
2. teen choice awards
Shine the Light: The Stones still rock!
1. Ace Young’s debut self-titled album. Arguably the best album from an AI alum. Produced by Desmond Child and featuring songs by Diane Warren and Ace himself, it is sure to blow up if radio is willing to take a chance on an independent artist.
2. Torchwood on DVD; Never before have I watched anything sci-fi but this show is so cleverly written, superbly acted and timely, that I forget that it is a show about aliens…although something tells me the moral is a little greater than the means in which they tell the story.
3. Robert Hoffman’s “Yes Dance” from Carnival ’07. I watched it on repeat a few months back but have revived my obsession after watching Step Up 2 The Streets. It is not only hilarious but features some really amazing dancing.
“Breaking Dawn” read it so fast after picking it up at midnight that I was done and rereading it by 6 p.m. Saturday. My only sadness is that it’s ending.
My new find, through Stephenie Meyer also, Blue October. That’s a serious soundtrack for the Twilight series.
When I saw “Isle” as part of the Must List title I thought for sure it was going to be a reference to Isle Esme…
“The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Sciety” by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows. A beutifully told tale of the occupation of the Channel Islands during World War II.
After watching Money Pit, Troop Beverly Hills, and old Cheers reruns, it is pretty safe to say that I love Shelley Long. Please come back to us, Shelley!
This summer, my must-see summer show is, once again, General Hospital Night Shift. No, I can’t explain ( but here goes); the spin-off is weekly , fun, and more enjoyable than parent soap GH. I get to see favorite characters (hello, Robin!) without having to wade through the ones I hate (buh-bye, Luke and Carly!).
i was abroad in rome this past semester and i was hooked on Capri. you should try finding italian big brother and wheel of fortune, just for the entertainment value of how crazy it is.
Must List:
1. Breaking Dawn
2. Pineapple Express
3. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
