Gnarls Barkley’s last video was a wacky dance party, complete with random Timberlake cameo and alleged seizure-inducing strobes. Their new one couldn’t be more different: It’s more like an indie short film than your typical MTV fare, and you hardly even see the Gnarls guys except for a single quick shot. Check it out below, and click through to the jump for my take:
Am I the only one who found this clip mad disturbing? Not necessarily in a bad way, just sayin’. That hemorrhaging heart that starts walking around and singing in Cee-Lo’s voice? So freaky! (I sense Guillermo del Toro taking notes for Hellboy 3.) Then again, I guess most of us have had conversations that felt like this at some point in our lives. And the video’s creepy/melancholy vibe definitely fits the tune — which is one of my favorites from The Odd Couple, for sure. Just remind me never to go to Gnarls Barkley’s greasy-spoon diner for brunch, okay? But you tell me — what do you make of this video?

you are not the only one! i love the tone of this video, but i wish the whole walking-singing-heart thing had never happened. if it was just all her talking to him and him not saying anything but that last line, i would have liked it more. or maybe even some images of them together while she was talking? is it too late for a reshoot?
Reminds me of the California Raisins or the burger making scene in “Better Off Dead”. Blah. Also seems that Gnarls and the record co. are trying to smooth over a disappointing follow-up with a video that talks over the track it’s promoting. Danger Mouse is a little tapped out – Black Keys, Gnarls II, Beck – it’s all been too much for one year. Come back to us rested and refreshed.
Alert Smash! We have a Waverly sighting!
(Seriously, FNL — you dropped the ball, pun intended, by ditching the Smash-Waverly complicated relationship)
Whenever they say “It’s not you” it’s you.
That was f-ed up, dude. I get the metaphor, but did it need to be so…gross?
It kind of reminded me of a commercial, (Heartbreak Insurance). It was the music playing in the background, the dialogue was the real story, which is uncanny for a music video, but I speak for more than just myself when I say, “I can appreciate an original idea”
Yaaay, I love Jorma Taccone. I keep waiting for him to be added to the cast of SNL.
With the big lips and teeth, the heart reminded me of “Audrey II” from the movie Little Shop of Horrors.

love this video. however, there was a video between this one and “run” that you seemed to have missed. it was for “going on” and it’s pretty damn awesome itself.
