Would you see 'Dark Knight' a second time?

Categories: Film, The Dark Knight

Darkknight_bale_lAccording to a Fandango.com poll conducted this weekend, 64 percent of people who saw The Dark Knight would see it again in the theater, making it even more impossible for the rest of us to see it just once. THANKS A LOT.

The movie I saw the most in a theater was American Beauty. I was a freshman in college and terrified that I wouldn’t make any friends, so I just kept saying yes to new people who wanted to go. (Um, there was a Ground Round right next to the theater and we inexplicably went there, too.) I think I saw it four times, maybe seven. Since 1999, I’ve spoken to those movie companions zero times, yet almost always watch part or all of American Beauty when it’s on HBO even though I’m sick of it by now. Priorities, I guess. You know what those dorm mates would say to me today? "It’s okay, Annie. I wouldn’t remember me either." JK people!

Anyhow, back to the subject at hand: Would you go to see The Dark Knight again, already? And which other movies have you repeat-theater’ed? (Oh, and if you haven’t read Benjamin Svetkey’s recent EW feature on the current box-office champ, by all means click here.)

I will likely see The Dark Knight a 2nd time on an IMAX screen – but the movie I saw the most in the theatre was Four Weddings & Funeral – 4 TIMES! I just kept telling ppl it was the best movie ever and kept going with them to see it.

There are three movie theatres in Chicago I can get into for free (as I work for a film organization). This directly affects how many times I see a certain movie. If it’s more mainstream, I REALLY have to love it to pay $9 again.
That said, I’ll probably see Dark Knight again (my roommate and I are planning on going to the IMAX theatre this time around) and Mamma Mia! too.
The last one I saw multiple times in the theatre was Juno. I still love it, despite all the backlash. I mean, come on–Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney in ONE movie? What’s not to love?

If I didn’t have to work the next day, I would’ve turned right around and bought a ticket to the next showing after I saw it the first time.
I’ll probably show up at the theatre again (for matinee prices!)
I saw Beetlejuice in the theatre 5 times. But, to be fair, I was 11.

I have already seen “The Dark Knight” for a second time. I saw a midnight show on Thursday and then went with some friends to see it again on Saturday night. I saw “Iron Man” twice earlier in the summer and both movies were just as good the second time… “The Dark Knight” was a little better.

I saw 27 dresses two or three times with various groups of people. I wouldn’t see Batman again though, too intense.

  • Ceballos

Yes, I would see “The Dark Knight” again.
And not only because it was very, very good, but because I couldn’t always understand what was happening. Part of that was the ambitious plot, and part of it was that I couldn’t always understand what Bale was saying when he was Batman. Who am I kidding? Mostly it was due to the fact that I’m not very smart.

  • Ceballos

Also, I remember seeing the new “Ocean’s Eleven” twice in one day with my college roomate. It was THAT cool.

  • Jenn

It was good. But I don’t know if I would consider it a movie (to me, anyways) that is “shell out $15 more bucks for another ticket and food and then deal with talking tools and squeaking tweens in the theater” good.

  • Annie

I thought TDK was a great movie, but it’s not one I’d want to see again in theaters. Maybe when they show it on cable.
When I was younger and ET came out in theaters again, probably for it’s 20th anniversary, I saw that at least three times in the theater. I also accidentally ended up seeing Chicago at least three times, too (meaning I didn’t really want to see it three times but got roped into it somehow).

I probably would see the Dark Knight again, but most likely on IMAX. The movie that I saw the most in the theatre was LOTR: The Two Towers. My friend and I were obsessed with the Gollum/Smeagol scene where he is going back and forth. So, we tried to memorize it – and that took 6 times in the theatre to get it down pat. Good thing she worked there and we saw all 6 for free.

I’ve never seen a movie multiple times in the theatre. I did, however, go through a childhood phase of only eating at Ground Round, so I have eaten there multiple times in the same day. Thankfully, I quickly grew out of that phase.

  • Ilana P

I thought the Dark Knight was great, but it’s a really long movie and I don’t know that I would want to go see it again, at least not for another few weeks.
However, i DID see FOrgetting Sarah Marshall 5 times in theatres. I just really really liked it…

  • arahsae

I would definitely see TDK again, and I’m already planning to do so, actually. The movie I saw most in the theater was The Fifth Element. I was mesmerized by it, really. And, it ended up being one of my first three DVD purchases ever (the other two being the Matrix and Half Baked), and therefore launched my absolutely out of control DVD collection…

i’d probably see it a second time. and a third. and a fourth. it was that good. i do want to try and catch it in imax. other than that, i don’t repeat a lot of movies. but movie musicals? yeah, i’ve a bit of a problem. hairspray – 6 times. chicago – 10. rent – 4. it’s bad news, but a $10 ticket (or a $5 ticket at the “$5 tuesdays” theater i was going to) was still much cheaper than the $60 theater ticket.

  • Jackie

Would TOTALLY see it again, maybe a third time. I’ve seen tons of movies more than once: Snakes on a PLane, Narnia 2, Knocked Up, Wedding Crashers, etc etc

  • Danielle

The last movie I saw multiple times in the theatre, that I can remember, was “Spice World.” I was in college and, like you Annie, just went anytime anybody asked me. Before that, I remember seeing “The Crow” and “Beauty and the Beast” several times when I was in high school. These days, it would have to be a really awesome, fantastic, knock-my-socks-off, life-changing kind of movie to see it more than once in the theatre.

  • Auriana

I’d definitely see Dark Knight again in theaters. I recently saw the latest Indiana Jones movie 3 times and in the past I’ve seen various Star Wars movies in theater at least 3 times each and LOTR:Fellowship of the Ring I think I saw about three or four times in theater. My record goes to Jurassic Park…nine times in the theater. I was in middle school at the time and for some odd reason became completely obsessed with that movie. And when it switched to the cheap theater (theater that shows movies that have been out for awhile for…at that time…$2 a ticket) a friend and I just kept going every weekend.

  • wildecat

OMG, Annie! The Ground Round!! Were there peanut shells all over the floor? High school flashback coming on…
Back to the main point, the hubby and I went to see LOTR: Two Towers and Return of the King two times each in the theater because we were so blown away by them. And that’s saying a lot, since we only see about 3 or 4 movies a year in the theater these days (kids, babysitter, hassle, etc.)

  • LadyTiger

I’m with you, wildecat. LOTR merits seeing more than once in a theater. Batman doesn’t (like you said, babysitter, expense, etc), but I’m sure we’ll be buying the DVD.

  • KateDFW

I saw the original Beverly Hills Cop 4 times at the theater. But of course that was 1984 when movie tickets were a whole lot cheaper! And Eddie Murphy was still funny.

  • Catherine

Yes, without a doubt. I would try to catch it on IMAX, but I would be available for anyone who did not see it yet. Back in the times (makes me feel old), I saw 10 Things I hate About You 4 times at the theater…

  • Verity

Um, I did go see it twice this past weekend and will probably go again this coming weekend (gotta see it in IMAX while I still can). I thought it was an amazing film and seeing it a second time helped me pick up on things that I missed. Plus, the first time I saw it I was unfortunately sitting next to an antsy six year old (seriously, who brings a little kid to a movie like that?!?!) who could not sit still nor keep quiet for the last hour and a half of the movie.
Another movie I’ve seen more than once in the theaters was “Stardust.” It was just such a fun and exciting movie, I couldn’t help myself :) I go to early shows so I only pay $5 so multiple viewings doesn’t really hurt my wallet much.

  • Sara

I’ve already bought my ticket to see Dark Knight again, this time in IMAX. So. Freaking. Excited.

  • Lise

Haven’t seen TDK yet, but will definitely before it leaves theaters. I definitely saw all three LOTR movies at least two times (maybe 3) in theaters. And Harry Potter – I think I’ve seen most of those movies more than once in the theater.

  • Ben

Maybe. I haven’t seen it yet, but the different venues – regular theatre versus IMAX – might make it worthwhile. I admit I saw two movies several times, and I am not happy to admit it… I saw Bram Stoker’s Dracula FIVE times in two weeks… partly because I loved it and partly because it was a way for me to go on a date. The other movie was the Brady Bunch Movie which I saw THREE times…. and I have no excuse.

  • dan jones

Dark Knight is the single most overrated, overhyped movie of my lifetime. Ledger was great, but he was trapped in a movie that was otherwise duller than his performance. Walking into TDK, I was discussing going to see it again on an Imax screen. Walking out, I was discussing whether or not it was too late to catch Iron Man again.

  • Anonymous

I have never seen a movie multiple times in theaters, but I do know someone who saw Titanic like 7 or 8 times.

  • Winona

I’ll be seeing it this Sunday – and will reserve judgment on whether I’ll see it again until after I see it in the theaters.
My own personal repeater movies? 2nd place: I saw Mr. Holland’s Opus twice in the theaters (but I was a music major at the time). 1st place: I saw Chicago four times – had I not been at a late showing the first time, I literally would’ve bought another ticket and gone back in.

  • Wojo

There are thousands of movies that I haven’t seen even once that I’d like to see before I die. I’d rather watch any movie I’ve never seen on the Instant Watching feature of Netflix than see a really awesome movie a second time in the theater. That being said, I know I did see one or two movies twice in theaters when I was in high school. The one I can specifically recall was “The Blair Witch Project.” I think another one might have been “The Sixth Sense,” but I can neither confirm nor deny.
