At this late date, you don’t really need PopWatch to explain to you why Buffy The Vampire Slayer was one of TV’s all-time great dramas, or how Buffy and Willow’s gifts were a brilliant metaphor for the changes wrought by adolescence and the onset of adult sexuality and emotional maturity, or Joss Whedon’s gift for developing characters that were fully human (even if they were demons and vampires). It’s for all these reasons and more that we listed Buffy as No. 10 on our list of the Top 100 TV Series of the last 25 years in the new EW 1000 issue. To illustrate, here’s a typical episode, full of typical teenage drama that seems utterly world-altering and life-changing to Buffy — because it is. It’s the pivotal "Surprise" episode from season 2, and you can watch it in full below.
This is the fourth installment in EW.com’s selection of 10 great episodes of programs on our top 100 list. We’ll be streaming an episode from a different show every day, or you can watch the entire slate in one sitting at Hulu. The first half of the list is here; Part 2 is here.

I can’t even watch this-it’s such a beautiful, sad, powerful episode- but I just wanted to say “Yippee!” because there is nothing better than Buffy. In my humble opinion, this is THE new classic television show.
I look forward to daily notices from Hulu apologizing for not being availabe outside the United States.
Yeah what’s up with that? Luckily geek that I am I have it on DVD so I can watch Buffy whenever the mood hits me.
Aaahhhhh. There’s nothing like a little Buffy in the morning! What a way to start the day. Thanks, Gary.
Awesome! Season 2 was my favorite! Full of the right mix of drama and action. I am one of those geekified people who’s lives were changed by this show. It really touched a lot of people who feel they are ‘different’ and we learned that it wasn’t just okay, it was kick ass!
