Finish this sentence: It was so f'n hot this weekend that I ...

… canceled movie plans Saturday night because there was nothing that I needed to see badly enough that I would go down into a New York City subway tunnel, wait for a train, and sweat. Instead, I stayed home and Hulu’d seven episodes of Vanished, the "Smoking" (below) and "Rat Funeral" episodes of NewsRadio, and the pilot of Remington Steele.

…I bowled three games on Saturday with my family and then, to stay in anywhere that was air conditioned, we walked over to the movies and I almost saw by myself “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” because my family wanted to watch “Indiana Jones” and I’d already seen it and wasn’t too excited about sitting through a mediocre flick again (I ended up seeing Indy again anyway, because Saturday was family time).

stayed home in the AC and watched “batman begins” in anticipation of “The Dark Knight” and also got about 1/2 way through the first season of “30 Rock” on DVD.

  • Jeanne

spent the entire day on Sunday soaking up some AC and watching clips of old Kids in the Hall sketches on YouTube.

  • Jayel

My housemate and I stayed inside under the ceiling fan and drank frozen liquor drinks, ate chips, and played Wii games all weekend. And everytime someone called and tried to lure us out into the South Carolina swelter, we invited them over to drink, eat, and play, too.
So now I have a headache, a vitamin deficiency, and a sore right arm – but it was worth it; we had a great time.

Went out and bought a Wii so my kids could play “tennis” inside rather than collapse from heat stroke outside.

I was a nice daughter and spent all day outside at a vintage car show in Connecticut. Soaked myself in sunscreen, stayed in the shade all day, still got sunburned. Then I about died when a Tennessee-sized thunderstorm blew through, and the tent I was standing under almost blew away. Fun times.

P.S. In the AC, of course. And they still worked up a sweat!

  • Catherine in Philly

…shaved my son’s head (at his request), made lemonade, tied a gel pack to my forehead, watched “30 Days of Night,” and complained about “30 Days of Night.”

portland, or…summer hasn’t started yet. we encouraged the kids to play wii to stay warm. otherwise, we’d have to turn the heat on and in near mid-June, that’s just plain wrong.

  • Catzak

Lounged on my couch in the AC and watched eight episodes of Army Wives.

  • Chaddogg

Stealing a tip from Popwatch, I started re-watching episodes of Standoff on Hulu….highly underrated show that should have succeeded, and would have been great permanently matched up with Bones on Fox.

  • Ryan

Slept nekkid with my guy, cooked breakfast in our boxers and went to see One Republic in concert.

…was basically comatose for 39 of the 48-hour weekend. It was sweltering, humid and it stormed terribly for the entire weekend. I scraped all my plans, which included a trip to our city’s Pridefest, and slept, wrote and made ravioli from scratch.

  • Verity

…settled in to watch three Netfilx-delivered DVD’s of Season 1 of “Bones” only to have my plans thwarted by a damaged first disc thereby rendering it impossible to play any episode featured on it. After venting my initial frustration, I combed through my own DVD collection and enjoyed random episodes of Doctor Who, Jeeves & Wooster, Animaniacs, and The Office along with viewings of weekend favorites such as Amelie, Stardust, and Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World. Somewhere in between all of that I did manage to run a few errands and do some chores around the house, but mostly I remained in my pj’s and kept my DVD player running just as hard as my A/C. Oh and my friend and I rediscovered just how much fun playing Scrabble really can be. Yes, we are dorks.

Took advantage of my first non-work, non-travel weekend in a while to finally go see Sex and the City, Indiana Jones, and Iron Man in the wondrous comfort of the A/C-equipped theaters. And wasted a lot of time in two different bookstores just browsing.

  • Andi

Spent the weekend on the couch watching seasons 1 and part of 2 of Friday Night Lights, thank you Hulu!

  • Anjeliki

Heat? What heat? We drove 8 hours (each way) so we could spend all weekend wearing three sweatshirts, a coat, wrapped in blankets with an umbrella watching softball in the rain, wind and 50-degree temps of Northern Idaho. Good times.

… my dog looked at me like I was nuts when I tried to let him out to pee. I had to pick him up and put him in the yard, and even then he just stood there like he had no idea what to do. He eventually went … after about five minutes of just plain confusion. I love him, but he’s a little dumb sometimes. Or it was just too hot to pee.

  • RobC

… caught a revival showing of “Rebel Without a Cause” at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor.
It was great to see that movie for the first time on the big screen, and it’s probably the best film I’ve seen yet this summer.
BTW, does anyone else think “Rebel”’s Plato was a predecessor to “My So-Called Life”’s Rickie Vasquez? Hispanic looking boy, different socks, picked on at school, in trouble with a gun… The “Guns and Gossip” episode of MSCL makes a nice companion to “Rebel.”
I can see some film professor saying, “Now, compare Jim Stark’s expression of youth angst to Angela Chase and how gender plays a role.”

You must have AC if you stayed in your apartment this weekend. I avoided my apartment at all costs.

  • KLF

I stayed in and totally “binge” watched Seasons 1 & 2 of Weeds! I freaking love this show now!

  • Nancy

Watched several episodes of Lost Season 1 on abc.com (I started watching in Season 2). Mandi, I can’t tell you how much it pleases me that someone is still watching NewsRadio. Loooved that show. Glad you’ve discovered its greatness.

  • Lena

…sat in the air-conditioning with leftover Red Baron pizza and watched the “Army Wives” marathon on Lifetime. Now I know what all the fuss was about last summer with my sisters and best friend! And now I’m hooked!

  • Stephanie T,

…almost passed out from dehydration when my dads car’s battery gave him the finger somewhere at the end of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.

  • elly

…DID go to the movies, as we have no AC, then coped with coming home by playing xbox in minimal clothing. yay indiana jones!

  • La La Love You

Didn’t leave my house once, just stayed in the AC. Watched the “Ice Road Truckers” marathon on The History Chanel yesterday and oogled all that gorgeous ice and snow.

  • Lauren

Lay on the couch in my sports bra and shorts, caught up on So You Think You Can Dance (I heart you, Mia Michaels), and re-watched the Step It Up and Dance finale (including the adorable Sex and the City number and Cody’s triumphant solo).
After we broke down and turned on our air-conditioning, we braved the swelter to trek to our neighborhood movie theatre, where we saw The Promotion and were treated to an impromptu visit from its director, a fellow Chicagoan.
I did get in yoga on Saturday and a six-mile walk on Sunday, but before, after and in-between, I a) watched four episodes of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (I love Hulu!) and browsed in Barnes & Noble for way too long.

  • kats

Took my husband (who nearly passed out from working outside all day Saturday) and children to see “Kung Fu Panda” as I have no A/C and the theater was nice and cool. Played darts and drank beer in the basement, where it is several degrees cooler than upstairs. Watched “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” again as I never realized Cedric was quite so hot prior to all the “Twilight” coverage.

  • Martha

…spent half yesterday afternoon in my cool basement watching men’s gymnastics (we haven’t put our A/C unit up yet). Sad, I know.

  • Sara

Saw Kung Fu Panda to take advantage of the movie theater’s nice A/C, then sat in front of the fan finally watching There Will Be Blood.
