Great work, you guys (especially Slezak). Can we hope for a full-blown podcast next year?
Only time will tell if this was the right decision. I really hope that they are both successful – I agree that DA is probably better off not winning. I just hope that the fan(atic)s of each David stop slagging off the other as they both deserve credit and both seem to be wonderfully sincere people. DA needs to experience some life now as that will only help his singing.
It was wonderful that most of the finalists sounded so good during the finale. Clearly the pressure was off! As my hairdresser said today, “they all sounded good, even Brooke”!
I will miss idolatry
Another brilliant season of Idolatry – I didn’t think you could surpass the first one for pure laughs, but you guys really topped yourselves. The Japanese robot, Bambi, Teletubbies, Wonder Woman, Run Lola Run, Kristen and her co-host twin with the smart-looking glasses – all brilliant stuff.
I cannot wait for next January – now when do we get more “America’s Next Top Doll?”
Aw, the last episode. You know, I think I might possibly miss Idolatry a little bit more than actual Idol, which is saying a lot. Happy trails, guys!
I will miss Idolatry so much! Nearly as much as I will miss seeing/hearing Mr. Cook twice a week:) You all did a fabulous job this season-truly funny and, at times, very informative. So long, Bambi/MechaGodzilla/Teletubbies-it was lovely knowing you!

Just a question: I “knew” David Cook had won by early Wednesday morning (thanks to the website ‘dialidol’). Does anyone think the contestants have access to this info prior to the results show? They’ve been accurate in predicting winners in AI and DWTS for the past 3-4 years…

Is she thinking about taking another job? Say it aint so! She is one of my favorites on Idolatry. I love how now, when I read a PopWatch post, I can usually picture the writer, thanks to Idolatry. I’ve never had such a personal connection to journalists.

Yay Idolatry! You guys are awesome! Loved all the Carly footage, but…you didn’t notice that she went really flat (i.e. “pitchy, dawg”) during that part of “Hot Stuff.” As a Carly fan, I was disappointed that she was so off!!
Brilliant work all season, Slezak. I will make a special effort to read anything you write for EW. Adored all the Idolatry episodes and checked (too) many times a day waiting for them to be posted. I love your style – you will be missed!
I’ve been waiting all week for this! I’m so happy that you point out all the logical responses to what goes on during that show. Thank you for pointing out for D.Arch this might be a blessing in disguise because he can only slightly be exploited. Whereas, I’m excited to see where Cook will take this – he obviously knows how to call his own shots and I can’t wait to see what he does! Now if i can only meet him…

While I like both of the Davids, Cook was the right choice.
It’s also refreshing how articulate he is for a mid-20 year old “dude”. Saw him on Leno last night, and he was a better guest than many of the celebrities that get booked.
He sets a good example, his parents should be proud of the way he was raised.

It was absolutely the right winner. I LOVE David Cook and most of other people who I talk to like him too and this is from people who don’t even like rock that much. I think Archuleta will sell a lot of records but I’m sure that Cook will sell even more. I liked Jordin and bought her cd but you can tell during the season and right after she won that she won’t have crazy sales. There’s more hype this season (even with the lower ratings) on the Davids. I think Cook has a defined image that he showed on the show and the ones who did really well like Carrie, Kellie Pickler, and Daughtry were ones who stayed true to themselves on the show. I know I will be first in line to buy his cd!!

Truly, Mike F — dialidol.com, which is not affiliated with AI or Fox in any way, predicted Cook’s win by tracking busy signals on the two phone lines. Cook got more votes, plain and simple. I actually thank Simon for inciting Cook’s fans to call in and set things right after he was so dismissive of Cook’s impressive body of work over the entire season. The two Davids respect each other and Archuleta is happy for Cook. Jive Records is already talking about signing Archuleta, so they’ll both be just fine. There is no fix, no conspiracy. Just drama!!
David Cook is the one who deserved to win and I’m just glad he did!! Just goes to show the tweens don’t run the entertainment business after all!!!!
I was never a fair weather David Cook fan. I ‘m glad I stayed true to my choice all along. Just goes to prove the tween scene doesn’t rule the complete entertainment business.
Well what a year. M. Slezak you rocked the reviews, and didn’t fail to deliver a great performance after every week of Idol. I will truly look forward to your musings next season. Until then relax, and enjoy err..Top Chef? I didn’t know Next Great American Band was canceled. Shame I liked that show. Watching Carly, and Johns kick’n it at the end of your idolatry clip proves that in most seasons of Idol they would have been our top two. They really did sound great. Ok thats a wrap for me.
