This is so unethical on so many different levels. If (best case senerio)she was reading her notes from rehearsal how is that fair? Dress rehearsals are not SHOW TIME PERFORMANCES. What really is happening is probably she and Randy are getting instructions on what to say. And she was too drunk to keep it straight. Maybe it is time for her to go.
Also I wonder if they will let that Paula fiasco air on the west coast? I read that Jason’s second song was cut in the Canada airing.
They clearly want Jason off which is ridiculous. Him and Brooke are the only promising artists on the show. The other 2 guys are what AI and the majority of its audience eats up. Syesha, as proven last week and a little this week with her personality shining still, could have a nice run on an appropriate Broadway show – nothing big and award worthy, but an appropriate show for her vocals. Or she could even do piano bar type stuff. No shame in that. I mean, you’re on American Idol, no place to go but up as far as performing goes. Really. At least you’ll have your dignity.
And previous comments are spot on, Randy hasn’t been liking Jason at all. The boy can’t riff so OBVIOUSLY he is no good at singing. *rolls eyes*
As I have always said. Idol is rigged. The script that Paula read is just so obvious the producer wants to get rid of Jason (just so it’d be nice equal number of male and female). I watch the show not to see who the producers crown winner, but to support great, hard-working singers like M. Doolittle, C. Daughtry, J. Hudson, Trenyce, Nadia Turner, etc.
The problem of AI is bringing mentors who contestants never been closely related to. They force contestants to sing even opera and old generational songs like Neil Diamond. Young kids want to sing what they like to sing. They had chances in audition and some hollywood rounds, but after that they have been forced to sing songs that are not familiar with. AI should do better job next year about choosing themes. Today’s show was so hush, hush and still took up so much ad commercial time. Why can’t they allow more time?
I got the impression that the judges were as surprised as the contestants to be asked for a critique after the first round. I wonder if Ryan was supposed to do that? In the meantime, the AI gang must still be busy working out their fire-fighting strategy after this debacle …
I completely agree with you three. I’d LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it if Archuleta left tomorrow night, but since the show is fixed, he will NOT.
I hate that phrase “Jumping the Shark” because it is used so frequently – but Idol really needs to END. This year has been a joke. From day one the producers have made it clear THEY WANT David A to win and he will win. The show is so boring this year. I like David Cook and I liked Carly. But I am not excited about anyone. And the fact that they say David A is perfect when he screws up the lyrics (last week) just goes to show how scripted the show is now. And then there is the endless issues with Paula. She is on so many medications -she has health issues (which she has been very open about) – she should just admit she has to be on a lot of pain pills to manage her illness. Just say the prescribed meds make her loopy – she can’t think straight. Not recognizing the fact that she is a train wreck is the ELEPHANT in the ROOM. I cringe whenever she speaks – not knowing if this is a lucid day or not. I actually feel sorry for her sometimes. But she says nothing in her “critiques”.
SOMEONE NEEDS TO CHECK PAULA’S CUP!
SOMEONE NEEDS TO CHECK PAULA’S CUP!
I dont want to think “conspiracy theories” but the bottom line is that it certainly was unfair for Jason to have to go on after that surreal, hurtful moment. I didnt think it was that great a performance and I love him! But-big BUT-who could sing it great after knowing she thought (or was told to think) it already sucked? People forget Jason has very little performance experience. Maybe they do watch dress rehearsals from backstage & those were her thoughts from earlier, but it is highly suspicious. Lending credence to the trying-to-sabotage-Jason theory, however, was what Paula said trying to cover herself. First, she acted like Jason’s non-existent 2nd song was not good. Then she tried to cover by saying oh those were her notes for David C. and he was fabulous! Ummmm, really? Seriously? Jason’s ghost song was atrocious but when it morphs into Cook’s 1st song it was fabulous? I think Paula needs to share her doctor’s name with the world..I could use some of whatever she’s taking.
THIS SHOW IS A JOKE….CREDIBILITY HAS FLOWN OUT THE WINDOW.
Okay, I know there is little chance anyone will read this post but…Let ‘em have it, Slezak, LET THEM HAVE IT!!!!
And I’m glad the AI team will not be getting any shut eye tonight as they work on damage control. Perhaps they should join forces with Obama’s campaign.
Ok, ok… everybody calm down!!!
I need to say that I had the same reaction at first, but reading more about it I got to find out that the judges actually see them perform BEFORE the show airs, and even some of the recap shots at the end are from a previous performance the same day (it is not easy to edit the “best moment” of their performance live). I know that it didn’t look good at all, but to say that JASON is a threat to the others is not realistic at all! He has done several GREAT performances, yes. I can even say that he was my favorite at some point. But at least the past two weeks have been HORRRIFIC for him, and his whole “laid-back” attitude can be confused for an “I-don’t-care” posture.
I think Paula is not the right person to be a judge in AI (and Randy neither, for that matter), but this seems like an honest mistake. A very stupid one, yes, but still a mistake.
