PopWatch’s favorite sketch comedy troupe, The Kids in the Hall, are back on the road with their first major tour in six years, Live as We’ll Ever Be. I felt a moral imperative to make sure you all knew about it. Check out dates here, and go see (pictured, from l. to r.) Scott Thompson, Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, and Mark McKinney on stage. The show is all-new material, some of which involves the return of classic characters — most notably, the Headcrusher, the Chicken Lady, Buddy Cole, Cathy and Kathie, those besuited, pose-prone infomercial guys that Bruce and Mark play, and Gavin. (There’s no Simon and Hecubus because apparently, Dave’s too afraid to get in those tights now. I’d have been happy to see an aged manservant in an evil track suit, for the record.)
Annie Barrett and I caught the show Friday night in New York City, and it’s with great pleasure that I announce that Kevin is breaking character more than ever — perhaps because Bruce and Mark are now trying to get him to giggle. After two decades together, they all know which buttons to push. (Hence Bruce’s "F—in’ Foley!" outburst during one sketch). That kind of chemistry is a beautiful, comforting thing. It’s like sitting down with the first season DVD of a TV show that you never watched until the third season, but then got hooked. You already know you’ll like what you see, so you just sit back and enjoy.
After the jump, enjoy two seriously NSFW video sketches from Live as We’ll Ever Be. And keep an eye out for EW.com’s upcoming behind-the-scenes photo gallery of the tour — captioned by the Kids themselves. We just got the pics emailed to us yesterday, and there’s one of Scott in his underwear. Naturally.
"Rape Kevin," the taped sketch that opens the live stage show
"Car F—ers" (Could Kevin have finally taken away Dave’s title as the most beautiful woman?)

I love it, I love it, I love it!
“Moral imperative”–Ha! Now I have to go home and watch “Real Genius.
I started watching KITH when I was in my teens. Kevin – I LOVE YOU!! Have my babies please! For those of you who have missed a hidden gem of acting by Kevin, check out National Lampoon’s Senior Trip. He plays a Star Trek obsessed insane crossing guard. The movie as a whole is a little lame but his scattered scenes throughout are pure genius.
KITH are touring again?!?!?!?!? I’m literally shaking with anticipation… saw them on the 2000 tour and it was awesome. KITH got me through college, man. My roommate and I still toss a random KITH quote at the end of each email. And in honor of that:
“Fran! Have you turned the boy into a fag yet?!”
“aged manservant in an evil track suit” — Funny. And yes, please, bring back Hecubus!
Bring back Buddy Cole! “Ssssso much fussss over a few extra s’ssssss”.
Oh, I love them so much. That show was a staple at our house in my teen years — my mom, sister and I quote the Kids at each other all the time. And yes, Kevin really does look pretty.
They were in NYC last Friday? If I had known, I would have totally bought tickets. My brother loved Buddy Cole and the S’es. lol.
I just saw them last night in Houston!! Was awesome!! I wish i could have mauled Kevin! and yes, there was the occassional slip up and the cursing Dave Foley, loved it! So happy i finally got to see them!
They were just in my town last week and I didn’t know it! I found out the day after. Didn’t even know they were touring or I would have moved heaven and earth to be there! I love, love, love them!
They were in this area a few weeks ago and I wanted to go, but couldn’t. Here’s hoping they come back. I went to see them the last time they were touring and I loved it. If they come back, I might just have to become a screaming fan-girl and haunt the stage door.
saw them in 2000, and missed them last night. They are truly one of the best acts I’ve ever seen.My son still tries to squish my head.
I saw them for the first time in NYC on the 19th and it was amazing! The show was hysterical and all of the new material was brilliant. I can’t wait for your photo gallery!
i bought tickets immediately upon reading this post. thanks, mandi!
A love of KITH brought my husband and I together. It’s a shame that they aren’t touring in, y’know, Denmark. Although that would be up their alley. Ah well, at least there’s hope for Eddie Izzard coming here….
I just got tickets to see them in Clearwater Florida on May 23, can’t wait, glad to hear they’re as insane as ever. I need a good laugh!
I just saw the Kids at the Keswick Theater here in Philly last night. You can read about it here: http://dieactordie.com/2008/05/01/a-review-the-kids-in-the-hall/
And the Photo Gallery you promoed in the latest and in this blog is where?
They are still absolutly fabulous. Just saw thier tour last night in North Charleston. Laughed my rear off. If they are coming to a city near you…. get your tickets. maybe you will be one of the lucky ones and get your head crushed!!
